ALPHA CHARLIE .. ….. ALPHA CHARLIE ……

Staff from the Scotland & Northern Ireland Radio Training Cell, had a busy weekend

27 - 01 March.

At the request of CI Rebecca Sorrie 2329 Castle Douglas Squadron who was assist-

ing at the SNI Field Radio Course at Barry Buddon in October 2014arrangements

were made to hold a VHF Course for Dumfries and Galloway Cadets.

Flt Lt Fred Ruddell travelled from Belfast to deliver an Air Cadet VHF Radio Operator

course at 2329 (Castle Douglas) Squadron.

Seven cadets from 2329 and 1153 Sqns attended a Full VHF Operator radio course

held at Castle Douglas during the weekend 28 Feb to 1 Mar 2015. All successfully

completed the course, which comprised training in ATC radio voice procedure and ra-

dio theory, along with practical 'on the air' exercises, and are looking forward to more

radio activities in the future.

Thanks to Fg Off C Tyson, OC 2329 Sqn for hosting the course at his Sqn HQ.

The culmination of 12 months' work was the delivery of the first Radio Course at the

Dacre RAC RAF Lossiemouth. While Flt Lt Ruddell was delivering his course at 2329

Sqn, WO Tam Brown-1370 Sqn and CI Jim Watt -38 Sqn delivered a similar course to

Highland and North East Scotland Wing Cadets. Twelve cadets attended and passed

with flying colours the Full VHF Radio Op-

erator course. Additionally CI Ryan Cook

from 2521 Sqn successfully completed

the VHF module of the Squadron Radio

Instructors Course.

The course was supported by Fg Off Rob

Turpie -2450 Sqn and Plt Off Chris Tayler

- 2521 Sqn, It was the first radio course to

be delivered at the Dacre RAC at RAF

Lossiemouth and it will be followed with

an HF Radio Operator part 1 in May and HF Radio Operator part 2 in June.

Flt Lt Natalie Scott from 2521 Squadron was at RAF Lossiemouth on other ACO busi-

ness. But she found time to look in on the course. Natalie holds a marine radio opera-

tor qualification and is keen to learn ACO radio procedure.

The timing of the courses were co-ordinated to allow a demonstration of HF Radio

Communication between Castle Douglas and RAF Lossiemouth. However logistical

problems at Lossiemouth prevented this. The Dacre RAC will be operational on HF

over the weekend 19-21 June, the ACO 'Longest Day' radio exercise.

If you would like information about Cadet or Instructor radio courses contact

the regional Radio officer at: [email protected]
