My grandmother sold fruits and vegetables from the streets of Mexico City, and my aunts, brothers, parents and sisters all worked in different parts of the food industry. When my husband, who was born in Ramos Millan (and insists that I mention that he thinks it’s the best place there), and I moved to San Francisco, we noticed that the foods that we had loved, and made, in Mexico City, were difficult to find here. I began selling food out of my home in the Mission District in 2004. I found inspiration in women like Veronica Salazar, who now owns El Huarache Loco, and we sold comida corrida and guisados, the typical lunch plates and home-cooking that I had known my entire life. We joined La Cocina in 2007, aspiring to grow our home-business into a restaurant, a dream that you are sitting in right now. In 2008, we launched a farmer’s market stand at the Noe Valley Market every Saturday, where you can still find us. We began this restaurant’s journey in 2014, with the tremendous support of the building owner, along with La Cocina. Now, we hope that you can come here and feel like you are eating in our home. My sons and daughters-in-law work the floor and the kitchen alongside my husband and I. We try to serve you the food you would have if you joined us in our home, and give you the service that we would give an honored guest. This restaurant is our home, and we hope that it will soon be your’s as well. Thank you so much for being here. Sincerely, Isabel Caudillo, Chef and Owner ALMUERZO
