* ¿Cuándo usas los verbos reflexivos? In Spanish, when people do things to _________________, reflexive verbs are used. * First, let’s concentrate on the pronouns that make these verbs reflexive. THE REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS

¡Los verbos reflexivos son muy fáciles! Paso # 1 - Ignore the ______ that is attached to the _____, _____, or ____ verb.

Cepillarse los dientes. Ignore the se You are left with an infinitive verb. Conjugate the verb by dropping the –ar, -er, -ir, and add your new ending based on the subject. Cepillar(se) los dientes = -ar verb Quick review of verb endings ( conjugations )

Paso # 2 - Decide what subject it is and choose the correct reflexive pronoun. Then, conjugate the verb using the -ar,-er, or –ir verb endings.

*Always use definite articles after the reflexive verb. Do not use possessive adjectives (its not needed because its already implied by the pronoun and verb form)

Ejemplo: I wash my hands. Me lavo las manos. Don’t use “mis”. Of course its mine. I know that because its reflexive “me lavo”

You brush your teeth. Te cepillas los dientes.

5 Why we use reflexive:

Reason # 1 – In certain verbs if you do not use any of the reflexive _____________ in front of the verb, then the phrase is not clear what is receiving the action.

Ejemplo : Tú TE preparas antes de ir al cine. You are going to use ______ because you are the one preparing _________________. This phrase means “__________________________________________.”

If you say this phrase without the ______ , then you have missing ___________________ and it doesn’t make sense.

Tú preparas antes de ir al cine. “You prepare before going to the movies”

It seems like you are missing information. You prepare what?? We don’t know. We need to add information. Tú ____________ unos _______ antes de ir al cine.                                                                                            

You still conjugate in tú form, but without the “te” in front, it’s not a _______________ verb because you are no longer preparing _______________, but preparing _____________________________.

Reason # 2 – In certain verbs if you do not use any of the reflexive _____________ in front of the verb then the meaning of the verb __________________. Dormir vs. Dormirse

Yo duermo cinco horas. ___________________________ Me duermo en el sofá. ____________________________

Who is doing the action? And who/what is receiving the action? Lavarse v. Lavar Bañarse v. Bañar Me lavo las manos. Me baño ______________________ _________________________ Lavo los platos. Baño al perro.

VERBOS REFLEXIVOS CON PREGUNTAS Y RESPUESTAS

• Cuando haces una pregunta con verbos reflexivos tienes que fijarte ( watch out ) cual es el sujeto de la pregunta. • Ejemplo : To get up _________________ Pregunta: ¿A qué hora te levant___ en la mañana? Cuando tú usas ________ en pregunta, en la respuesta usas ________   Respuesta : ____ _______________ a las siete en punto.  Ejemplo 2 : Pregunta: ¿A qué hora se levant____ ( ustedes ) ? Cuando tú tienes _____ en la pregunta, en la respuesta usas __________. Respuesta : ____ ____________ a las seis. Ejemplo 3 : Pregunta: ¿A qué hora se levant___ ella ? Cuando tú usas _____ en la pregunta con ella o él, en la respuesta usas ______ otra vez.

Puedes poner el pronombre _____ enfrente del verbo conjugado.

Yo ___ voy a lavar las manos. O puedes poner ______ junto ( attached ) al verbo “lavar” porque es el infinitivo.

Yo voy a lavar__ las manos.

 Son iguales (same). En inglés : ____________________________________.

*Ejemplo con QUERER : Tú ____ quieres bañar porque quieres ir a la escuela. Ahora el mismo ejemplo con el pronombre reflexivo ________ (junto) al ___________: Tú quieres bañar____ porque quieres ir a la escuela.
