GRACE 2.0 Our Amazing Parish initiatives strive to rebuild the parish com-munity through people. Our hospitality and invitations are nec-essary vehicles for bringing everyone to the table of the Lord. We all treasure invitation: someone thought of us; someone included us; someone chose us. Each weekend, Jesus invites us, includes us, chooses us to come to the feast, to hear his Word, and to eat at his ta-ble. What disposition do we bring to our liturgies? Are we wanting to truly be fed? Are we simply fulfilling an obligation? Are we finding our own be-longing with this community? How am I feeding others, helping them feel welcome and included? We thank others for coming because we appreci-ate their choosing to worship here, with us, at St. Joseph’s. We could go anywhere, or not go at all. We value everyone’s presence.

Dear Parishioners:
My mother always said that the Happiest Day of the Year is the beginning of school. Let that supreme joy continue throughout the entire school year. The Sacred Scriptures today take us back to the School of Holiness, with humility and self-knowledge walking hand in hand.
Jesus teaches us that those who exalt themselves will be humbled and the humble will be exalted. Why is humility essential to a right relationship with God and others? Humility keeps us mindful of our greatest privilege: Jesus, the mediator of the New Covenant. Only humility disposes our will, our desire for the mercy of God, lived and shared, according to the love of Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Humility and trust make us truly human, as we are children of God.
Belonging to and being an active member of our Catholic family of faith is a profound blessing! St. Joseph the Worker's Octoberfest is Oct 1 & 2 - every-one is welcome!
Blessings upon you, Fr. Gabriel

Most of the themes of CST can be traced throughout our Church’s history. The European Industrial Revolution (~1890s) prompted Pope Leo XIII to issue Rerum Novarum proclaiming the themes around dig-nity of work, rights of the workers, family, and participation in society
and laws. This was the era when many moved from farms to cities. Children were working in factories and everyone was working long hours in very poor conditions for meager wages. The Church was a voice for the workers, the poor, and the vul-nerable. More recently the US Catholic Conference of Bishops developed these teachings into seven themes that we uphold to enrich our human dignity, families, and our social structure. Fair Trade practice, along with responsible consumerism enhances the themes of Catholic Social Teaching.
OCTOBERFEST 2016 It is hard to believe that Octoberfest is less than two months away. This will be a great community event as well as a chance to have fun with fellow parishioners and others, enjoy a great meal and have some fun playing games and bidding on Silent Auction items.
Speaking of Silent Auction, the Silent Auction team is in need of donations of new items and could use help making phone calls and collecting donations. To help or make a donation contact Kathy McDonald at: 563-590-8342 or [email protected]; Lisa Kahle at 563 599 8650 or [email protected]; Debbie Budde-Bandy at 563 599 9674 or [email protected] or send in donations for the silent auction.
The craft corner is also looking for handmade items to sell. Contact Valorie Schmitt at 563-582-6154 or [email protected] for donations to the craft corner.
Or if you don’t want to shop or be crafty, you can send a check to the parish office to donate funds to help pay for printing, advertising and other miscellaneous items. Children are urged to donate lightly used toys (no stuffed animals) for the new “kids garage sale”.
Keep praying for good weather. We will have the first ever Water Sponge fight with your chance to go up against an all-star team captained by Fr. Anderson!

The Seven Sisters Apostolate, a movement which began in the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis, is a dedicated group of women is engaged in an effort to pray fervently for priests for their conversion and holiness. This ministry consists of sev-en women praying for a particular priest, each assigned to one day per week. Each woman prays for an hour on her day, inside churches or at Eucharistic adoration chapels. Would you consider praying an hour for Fr. Dennis Miller to help sustain him in his ministry and set his heart afire? For more information, please contact Jen-ny Bodensteiner, 563-495-4276 or [email protected]
