We are excited to have our students back and to work with everyone for a great 201718 school year. As usual, good things have been happening (even during the summer) and this newsletter will highlight some of them. Paint Week is a service activity where students volunteer their time to complete a painting project to beautify the school. This year we painted some vacant lockers in the main hallway to look like the spines of classic books. Titles include The Great Gatsby, The Princess Bride, Les Miserables, Of Mice and Men, etc.. FUTURE MEDICAL LEADERS

CONFERENCE Senior Sunaina Mukherjee represented Par High by attending the Congress of Future Medical Leaders. She had an unforgettable experience, from the inspiring and fascinating lectures of Nobel Laureates in Physiology and Medicine to the discussion of the future of healthcare and the ability to discover in the medical field. She also met with several deans of prestigious medical schools.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING CAMP We are proud of our Student Council for sending 20 PHS students to Leadership Training Camp at The College of New Jersey this summer (the most of any of the schools in attendance). The event, facilitated by the New Jersey Association of Student Councils, helped students to develop leadership and communication skills. They also learned about this year’s state charity: America’s Grow-A-Row. BERNAUER SWIMS AT NATIONALS

Par High Senior Kate Bernauer qualified for the YMCA Swimming Nationals this summer and competed in Greensboro, North Carolina. Congrats to Kate on her continued success in the pool!

SUMMER SERVICE TRIP TO FOOD BANK For the first time ever, we took a trip to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey over the summer. During the first week of August we took 65 students and staff. After a brief presentation where we learned about the working poor and how the CFBNJ provides services to them, we sorted food to be delivered to homeless shelters and soup kitchens around the state. If you haven’t taken a trip to the Food Bank yet, we’ll be going back in November—don’t miss out!

KHULLAR A NEW JERSEY SCHOLAR

Congrats to senior Udhay Khullar who was selected among hundreds of applicants to be a part of the month-long New Jersey Scholars Program this summer. Here is is looking extremely dapper at the program.

NEW PHS FIREMEN Congrats to Brandon Schweizer (on left) who graduated from the Morris County Public Safety, Junior Firefighter Class. Brandon is now a trained firefighter and will join the ranks of Parsippany District 5 Fire Department as a Junior Firefighter.

MR. RIZK NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

We’re excited to have our long-time Asst. Principal, Mr. Rizk, as our new Athletic Director. Mr. Rizk has a wealth of experience in athletics, both as an athlete and a coach, and will bring enthusiasm for sports, organization and a genuine love for PHS to the position.

         

SWAN TAKES 3RD IN ONE ACT PLAY JAMBOREE

Emma Swan, a junior at Par High, was selected as one of the featured playwrights at the Rhino Theater’s One Act Jamboree in Pompton Lakes on August 25-27. Emma’s one act play, No News, was selected to be staged over hundreds of submitted plays. At 17, she was the youngest playwright in this year’s jamboree. The play was written in Mrs. Vesper’s Creative Writing class last year. After all seven plays were performed, audiences voted on their favorites and Emma took 3rd! Congrats to our budding Bill Shakespeare.

LANIGAN NAMED 2017 BRINE ALL-AMERICAN

PHS junior Patrick Lanigan was named a 2017 Brine All-American for the 2nd consecutive year and represented Team New Jersey in the high school division at the National Lacrosse Classic in Richmond, Virginia. Patrick competed against teams from around the US and had the opportunity to perform in from of several college scouts.

KOSACHEVICH EARNS SINGING HONOR

PHS junior Anna Kosachevich was chosen out of over 200 applicants to participate in a two-week musical theater program at NYU Steinhardt with thirty other talented performers.

WILSON MAKES NATIONAL CHOIR Bobby Wilson, a junior at PHS, auditioned for and was selected for the NAfME All National Honors Choir. His audition video was selected out of thousands of singers who auditioned from around the country. Bobby will have the opportunity to perform in Disney World in November. He will also be singing in the New Jersey All State Honors Choir in Atlantic City during the Teachers’ Convention.

NEW TILED REDHAWK Thanks to Petyr from the Maintenance Department for designing and installing the beautiful RedHawk at the entrance outside the auditorium. As always, Petyr’s creativity, talent and hard work is always appreciated and definitely make PHS a better place.

     

If  you  aren’t  participating,  then  come  out  and  support  our  Par  High  Redhawks  Fall  Sports  Teams  this  season.    The  schedules  are  online,  but  we  will  always  be  making  announcements  and  sending  emails  to  keep  everyone  in  the  loop.    For  the  record,  the  following  sports  will  be  competing  this  fall:    CHEERLEADING       CROSS COUNTRY       FIELD HOCKEY   VOLLEYBALL     FOOTBALL       BOYS SOCCER     MARCHING BAND         GIRLS SOCCER     GIRLS TENNIS      In  addition,  there  are  over  forty  clubs  to  get  involved  with  at  PHS.    There  are  opportunities  to  make  friends,  help  others  and  have  a  good  time.  We’ll  be  sharing  information  and  providing  reminders  to  keep  you  in  the  loop  and  to  get  you  involved.  Keep  your  ears  open….
