subscRiption model
Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Servers subscription
pricing is based on the number of managed sockets, pro-
viding customers with a straightforward model for ordering,
deployment, and capacity planning. There are no licensing
limitations on the total number of cores per host, and man-
agement is included. Licensed sockets can run unlimited
virtual guests, but customers must purchase the licenses
for operating systems (Red Hat or others) separately.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization offers two choices
for hypervisor: a small-footprint hypervisor, Red Hat
Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor, that is bundled
with Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Servers, or
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, purchased separately.

For customers who want to host Red Hat Enterprise
Virtualization on a full Red Hat Enterprise Linux instance,
Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Red Hat Enterprise LinuxAdvanced Platform can be used as a host for vir-
tual machines. A Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Red Hat
Enterprise Linux Advanced Platform subscription is
required for each host in this model, in addition to the
Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Servers subscription.
We generally recommend Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Advanced Platform for use with Red Hat Enterprise
Virtualization.

To assist customers in sizing and ordering the correct
number of licenses, Red Hat has developed a web-based
congurator for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for
Servers. With it, you can enter the number and type of vir-
tual machines you need to virtualize, and the congurator
will calculate the number of hosts and a bill of materials for
Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and Red Hat Enterprise
Linux products. For more information, see
www.rh./rhv/rvr/.
The Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise
Virtualization product offerings, pricing, and terms and
conditions are based on United States published retail pric-
ing, are accurate as of June 2010 and are subject to change
and local pricing. Pricing for non-Red Hat guest operating
systems is based on published retail pricing in the United
States and is subject to change and local pricing.
For more information on Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization
pricing and conguration, please contact your localRed Hat sales ofce or Red Hat authorized reseller.
