(8:00 am) SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM (congregation’s welcome) P: In Holy Baptism, God the Father has made you a member of His Son, our Lord Jesus

Christ, and an heir with us of all the treasures of heaven in the one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We receive you in Jesus’ name as our sister in Christ, that together we might hear His Word, receive His gifts, and proclaim the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

C: Amen. We welcome you in the name of the Lord. P: And you, Alaina, the Lord bless you in all your ways from this time forth and forevermore. C: Amen. (Please stand to sing.) (*) All sing: Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; (LSB

805) Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

(*) INVOCATION P: All praise to God the Father C: who raised His Son in victory P: All praise to God the Son risen from the dead C: our true and living hope P: All praise to God the Holy Spirit C: who works in our life the living hope of the resurrection (*) CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION P: On behalf of the resurrection of our Lord we are able to confess our sins and not hide

them. C: Trusting in the forgiveness won for us in the death and resurrection of Christ. P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C: But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and

cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9)

Silence for reflection and personal confession P: Trusting in Christ's gracious gift of forgiveness we confess together, C: Heavenly Father, we are filled with sorrow for our sin. We confess that we have not

lived up to Your expectations. We have sinned in our thoughts, by our words, and with our actions. For the sake of our risen Savior forgive us all our sins. Amen.

P: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

SCRIPTURE READINGS L: The First Lesson for the Second Sunday of Easter is from Acts chapter four.

32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God's grace was so powerfully at work in them all 34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.

Act 4:32-35 NIV L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

L: The Epistle is from 1 John chapters one and two. 1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched —this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We write this to make our joy complete. 5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us. 1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. 1John 1:1 - 2:2 NIV L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. (Please stand to sing.) (*) ALLELUIA AND VERSE

(*) HOLY GOSPEL L: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the twentieth chapter. C: Glory to you, O Lord. 19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 21 Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone's sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven." 24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe." 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" 27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe." 28 Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!" 29 Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." 30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:19-31 NIV L: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to You, O Christ. (Please be seated.) CHILDREN'S MESSAGE (Parents, please feel free to come forward with your younger children.) (5:30 pm) (*) NICENE CREED (Please stand.) I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And he will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen (Please be seated.)

2 Week of 4-12-2015

New Adult Bible Classes BEGINNING SUNDAY, APRIL 12 at 9:20 am

NEW TESTAMENT APOSTLES Pastor Heining leads this class in the South Fellowship Hall. This class is looking at the lives of the men and women who surrounded Jesus and were the first to share the Good News. The primary source will be the Bible, but we will also consider some interesting traditions. We will begin with Peter, our featured Bible person for the month of April. CHRIST IS RISEN INDEED! SO WHAT? The Resurrection of Jesus is the climactic event in the history of the world. Have you ever stopped to truly ask yourself what this climactic event really means and how it changes your life today and the world for eternity? This class will actually be led by a seminary professor - Dr. Jeff Gibbs not in person but close - online! A great opportunity to learn from a man who has been working on answering the “so what?” for over 28 years! Pastor Koglin facilitates the discussion following each video in the North Fellowship Hall. ADULT CATECHISM: Through Confirmation the 10 Commandments, Apostles’ Creed, Lord's Prayer, Communion, and Baptism are looked at in the Catechism. However that is only half of what is in this jam packed book by Martin Luther. The Small Catechism was written for heads of households to teach their family. There are a few sections in the back we don't get time to really look into. That is exactly what we will be doing in this Bible study. We'll get the chance to check out the other three sections of Confession, Daily Prayers, and Table of Duties. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to attend if they are curious about the less looked at sections of the Small Catechism. Brian Weyers leads this Bible study in the Choir Room/Room 203.

Tune In to Tick Season Spring has sprung! With warmer weather it is time for more vigilance against tick-borne diseases. In a news release dated April 4, 2012, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) reported that over the last decade, 1,000 to 2,000 more combined cases of tick-borne diseases each year have been reported to MDH, with the numbers increasing in recent years. The best way to prevent tick bites is to avoid tick habitat during warm weather months and take precautionary measures; such habitat and precautionary measures include: Wooded or brushy areas for the blacklegged tick; grassy or wooded areas for the American

dog tick. Make your yard less attractive to ticks: keep lawns mowed short, remove leaves and brush,

create a landscape barrier of wood chips or rocks between mowed lawns and woods. For yard-woods interface areas apply pesticide treatments in the spring or early summer

along the edges of wooded yards and trails. Follow pesticide label instructions carefully. Use a DEET-based repellent (up to 30 percent DEET), which can be applied to clothing or

skin for temporary protection. For more information about Minnesota’s tick-borne diseases, including signs, symptoms, and prevention visit their website: http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/idepc/dtopics/tickborne/index.html or call MDH at 651.201.5414.

PRACTICAL–SIMPLE–OUTREACH Mark Twain Advice: Mark Twain once said, “Anyone who has grabbed a bull by the tail knows five or six more things than someone who has not.” Stop waiting until you have all the right answers, training, or equipment before you start doing mission in your neighborhoods and communities. Simply start! Try it – when you try it, when you be you, and when you are intentional about joining Jesus on His mission you will realize Jesus has already equipped you by making you, well, you! Live your normal everyday lives with Gospel intentionality – Outreach made simply practical! The G.T.O Team

“Making Him Known”

But you will receive power when the

Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and

Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8

Jesus Makes Himself Known — Through Forgiveness

BIBLE VERSE OF THE WEEK:

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8‐9 NIV

POINTS TO PONDER THIS WEEK: What is the peculiar work of the church? How does this change how you interact with people on Monday? How are you unleashing Jesus forgiveness in your life and the lives of others?

Take it Home Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed, Alleluia! What a victorious declara on this is! During the Easter season it is a great way to proclaim to each other that we have a living Savior! It would be great for you to take this call and response home and share it with those around you. Bigger than that though is the general thought of glorifying God in our language. How do we talk to each other? Are we joyful and filled with hope or do our words show the world a picture of a hopeless, angry, person? Is each day a gi from God or a burden that is too much to endure? Please understand, I am NOT advoca ng that anyone should ignore their struggles and sweep them under a false veneer of happiness. If you are struggling we are here for you. Please do not struggle alone! What I am saying is that how we talk can make a huge difference on how we approach life. God created all there is with a few words. Jesus is the WORD of God in the flesh. Words ma er. As we are made in God’s image our words can create a world of suffering and burden or a world of hope and freedom. What world do you prefer?

WELCOME VISITORS Whether looking for a church home or just here for the day, we are glad to have you

as our guests. Please sign the red Friendship Registration pad in your pew and pick up a visitor packet in the Narthex. Remember that you are our guests; the offering is for our members who support the work of the church through their voluntary gifts.

WORSHIP SCHEDULE Saturday 5:30 pm Sunday 8 and 10:40 am HOLY COMMUNION is celebrated in each service the weekends of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of the

month. We invite those who acknowledge their sinfulness, recognize that Christ’s body and blood are truly present for our forgiveness, and are willing to give witness to the unity of their faith with this community, to join with us in receiving the sacrament. For those who for health or conscience reasons are not able to receive wine, please note that there is a cup of white grape juice in the middle of each tray. Gluten-free wafers are available in the middle of the bread tray for those with that allergy.

CHILDREN are always welcome at Redeemer. Parents should note that according to your needs and preferences, 1) children’s bulletins and “color bags” are available in the narthex; 2) our nursery is staffed each Sunday morning during the 9:20 am Education Hour and the 10:40 am service. The Nursery is located just off the Narthex -- look for our sign!

WORSHIP TAPES are available in the rack by the elevator. Listen and bring it back or contribute one dollar if you wish to keep the tape.

TRANSPORTATION is available each Sunday morning. Please call the church office (289-5147) by Noon on Thursday.

SPECIAL NEEDS Large print bulletins and personal hearing devices are available in the Narthex from an Usher or at the Welcome Center.
