The three Junior Judiciary members who will lead the
school and the Junior Executive are Sam Weidler, Alex
Marucci & Noam Olovitz.
We look forward to supporting their ideas and initiatives
and will feed off their unbridled enthusiasm as they
strive to lead the school.
In my address to these leaders, I shared the words of
Margaret Mead who said “Never doubt that a small
group of thoughtful committed citizens can change
the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

The Women’s March 4 Justice is a case in
point. Organised by Janine Hendry who had had
enough. She’d never organised a rally before but her
frustration and outrage gave her an idea and the moti-
vation to act. The response was overwhelming with
tens of thousands joining her, coming together for doz-
ens of rallies around Australia to protest sexism and vio-
lence towards women.
I commend those in our student body who have come
out in recent weeks in support of each other and in
support of equality.
As a Co-Ed school that sees mutual respect as the cor-
nerstone of our philosophy, we aim to instil in our stu-
dents that compassion and sensitivity to others are
qualities of strength, not weakness. I hope that as a
school we continue to provide an environment where
students are free to express themselves, support each
other, and to have ideas that can have a positive ef-
fect on the world.
This week saw The Year 7, 8, and 9 Seminar Days taking
place. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather
as all the field trips had just arrived back at school fol-
lowing successful mornings when the heavens opened
and torrential rain descended.
Year 7 began the day with an eco-orienteering course
throughout Centennial Parklands. The expedition en-
riched their studies in mapping skills and the natural
landscape. Following a picnic lunch, students im-
mersed themselves in The Ian Potter Children's Wild Play
Garden. The Garden let students explore the wonder
of nature with dry creek beds, an artesian water play
area, a bamboo forest, banksia tunnels, turtle mounds
and a treehouse.

Year 8 students visited the Jewish Museum and took
part in a Human Rights workshop. The focus was on cul-
tural awareness and integration which facilitated a
broader understanding of multiculturalism within Aus-
tralia.
Our Year 9 Geographers began Seminar Day with a
First Nations Food Workshop in the Royal Botanic Gar-
dens. Students learned about the history of food in Aus-
tralia, before preparing and tasting native cuisine that
has been eaten on the continent for millennia. Follow-
ing lunch, students surveyed the natural and human
elements of the Gardens, using equipment to measure
the wind speed, temperature and gradient of Sydney's
landscape. Such a worthwhile field trip was enjoyed by
all.
Year 9 History students went to the Museum of Sydney
and The Rocks Discovery Museum to take part in a day
of interactive learning and source analysis as part of
their just-completed ‘Movements of People’ unit. It was
an amazing opportunity to engage with local, state,
and national Australian history, compare the experi-
ences of convicts, free settlers, and Aboriginal people
to that of those in Europe, Africa and the United States
and apply skills and feedback from their recent cycle
test.

On the sports front:
Last Saturday two of our Tennis Teams played in the
Finals of the Northern Suburbs Schools Tennis Champi-
onships. Justin Zhao and Justin Pamer teamed up to
take out the Division 1 Final. Both boys are in Year 8
and they have played throughout the season against
students from as old as Year 12. Both are excellent
players and winning this title is an outstanding achieve-
ment.
Sam and Zac Chiman played in Division 5 and won the
Championship over a team that was much bigger and
stronger. The twins used their skill and expertise to over-
come the size difference and wore their opponents
down to win the match. Zac had a big week last week
being in the team that took out the CDSSA Champion-
ships but on this occasion, it was Sam who dug deep
under extreme pressure to keep the team in the
match. Well done to both teams.
Freddie Schneiderman has set the netball world on fire.
Having been through a number of grueling trials and
training herself to exhaustion she has made the NSW
Under 17 Netball Team. This is an amazing feat particu-
larly as she is still eligible to play Under 16s.
@REDDAM—The Reddam House High School Newsletter Volume 21, Issue 8 Friday 19th March 2021 Page 4
On top of this she has been selected to play in the
Manly Under 23 Premier League Team. She will lead the
Reddam Open Team next week when they take part in
the CDSSA Netball Championships. This is the highest
achievement of any netballer in the history of our
School.
Arabella Raetze competed in 6 events at the Moss Va-
le Agricultural and Riding Show last weekend where
she won third place in two of her events. Being the first
time she’s ever won a ribbon in only her second com-
petition, I’m sure this will be a memorable occasion for
her. Congratulations.
On the cultural front:
Our debaters debated against Sydney Grammar and I
would like to congratulate the Year 7 team in particular
for winning their first debate. Maddie MacIntyre, Sarah
Mueller, Lila Macpherson and William Barouch argued
that “ we should ban the advertising of makeup and
beauty products”.
The Year 8 team of Elise Katholos, Georgie Davis, Spen-
cer Nicklin, Jade Hastings debated that “we should
introduce a quota for women in parliament”.
The Year 10 team of Claudia Dean, Jaiden Chee,
Eunice Woo argued that “the feminist movement
should actively involve men in positions of leadership
within the movement”.
The Year 10 Drama students this term have been learn-
ing how to create original pieces of theatre using Play-
building skills and Children's Theatre conventions. They
presented their Children's Theatre Assessment perfor-
mances to the Year 2’s this week at the Senior Campus
Drama Studio. The young audience was treated to
original interpretations of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty,
Goldilocks and The Three Bears and Repunzel and thor-
oughly enjoyed the audience participation, puppetry,
physical comedy, dance and song. Well done to all
the Year 10’s for creating some outstanding perfor-
mances!

Congratulations to Chloe Parche who is featured in
DiscoverNu for her stunning debut single
“Moneymaker” that has been released on Spotify.
Chloe is certainly a star in the making.

Next week will see the High School Musical, Beauty and
the Beast, performed at NIDA. Our students are ex-
tremely excited to be able to perform to an audience
following the cancellation of the show last year due to
COVID. Rehearsals have been going well and Mr. Hat-
tingh reports that he is very excited about next week’s
performances.
The Middle School students will attend the matinee
performance on Thursday and Wednesday and Thurs-
day evening performances are almost sold out.

Art retreats are in full swing over the next three
weeks. Year 10 Artists go to Q Station this weekend
with Year 11 going next weekend. The first week of the
holidays sees the Hamilton Island Art retreat taking
place for any students from Year 8 - Year 12.
Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead.
Keep dry!

NARRATIVE PLAYBUILDING WITH YEAR 9 DRAMA
This term our Year 9 Elective Drama students were tasked to create a narrative playbuilt performance based on a
children's picture book. Our students were taught a variety of playbuilding techniques to assist them In the devel-
opment of these narrative performances. The result was a series of highly entertaining and creative pieces show-
casing Year 9’s ability to develop characters and tell these stories in dynamic and original ways.

MUSIC NEWS
We're thrilled to let you know that Year 9 Music stu-
dents will be among the first in all of the Inspire schools
around the world to participate in a 2 day workshop
with an Artist in Residence through
the Inspired by Berklee program. Mina Yu, a graduate
from Berklee music school in the USA, is coming to Red-
dam Sydney to work exclusively with our students in a
hands-on ensemble performance workshop in the last
two days of this term.
The workshops will be a hands-on practical music-
making experience for our students where they will
learn about:
- Musicianship/Practice Techniques
- Styles, Grooves & Accompaniment/Ensemble Skills
- Style Lab (Rhythm section / Frontline integration)
The sessions will be lead by Mina and supported by
Reddam Music Staff & Specialist Tutors, and will culmi-
nate in a final Workshop Showcase (Thursday 1st April @
6pm in Adelaide Hall) where parents can come and
hear what students have been working on over the 2
days, in addition to some extra performances from our
Year 9 classes and from Mina.
Students have already been preparing large ensemble
items for this event (in class) and will need an addition-
al rehearsal on Monday 29th March from 3.45 - 6pm in
order to finalise their band items.
Due to this being in Week 10, we ask that attendance
at this rehearsal and during the 2 day workshop and
performance is prioritised above all other Reddam
commitments. Ensemble playing is a team effort and
requires all members to be present to achieve the ulti-
mate goals of the session.
We're so excited to be selected as a pilot school for this
unique, world-class initiative by Inspire and look for-
ward to seeing how the students develop through the
experience. Following this event, we look forward to
future opportunities through the Inspired by Berklee
program that can be shared by other year levels in
Reddam Sydney. For more information on Mina Yu and
the Inspired by Berklee partnership (and a range of stu-
dent resources), please visit https://
