WHO ARE THE TUSKEGEE AIRMEN AND WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT?

The Tuskegee Airmen were the first unit of African

• African Americans were very “segregated” at this time. Originally the bomber pilots they escorted disliked them because they were “colored”.

The importance of the Tuskegee Airmen was high

for most bomber pilots after seeing what the Red

tails could do• The Tuskegee Airmen

lost none but a few bomber pilots over the course of their service but lots lost their lives.

WHAT WAS THE RED TAILS ROLL IN WORLD WAR TWO?

The Red Tails Roll Was to be a bomber escort

• The Red Tails bomber escorting routine was terrific, They “danced their way through the bombers like angels” –Bomber Pilot

A bomber escort is a group of fighter aircraft that protected the bombers

• The group was called the Red Tails because of the easily identifiable red markings on the stabilizers, propeller cone, and the tips of the wings, And the red tailed hawk is an American bird of prey so you can see the connection.
