The Miller County Red Dirt Master Gardeners have scheduled Saturday, April 7, 2018 as the date for our

I for one am thankful that it cooled down a wee bit. Working out in the 105-110 degree heat index drained me. This brings up a good point; don’t stay out in the heat for long periods of time, drink plenty of water and try to do your work early of the morning.

We have several exciting things coming that

members will be able to get hours doing. We have some new Red Dirt Master Gardeners that only have one more Saturday of Basic Training before joining us.

I would like to thank the Red Dirt Master Garden-ers for sponsoring the second Saturday of Basic Training; you guys did great.

We have the Four States Fair Horticulture Booth coming up. Get with Chris Engledowl if you are interested in helping.

We have the Advanced Gardener training in Sep-tember and if you are interested in going, you need to sign up now.

PNG conference is coming up & the deadline to sign up has been extended to

August 15th.

Also Charlotte Fuller and the Fundraising Commit-tee have some exciting ideas and hope to get her to share them with us at the meeting. So, as you can see, things are hop-ping over the next few months.

Again, be safe out there and have fun gardening.

Horticulture Plants at Four States Fair

plants to the 4-States Fair!

To enter into the fair, you must have had them for at least 3 months prior to the fair. There are cash prizes awarded and you could just be a winner. Please tell your Garden Club members to enter plants, also. We really want to fill the Fine Arts building with plants. The plants will be judged by certified judges.

We also need help with registration and watering during that week.

There will be a MCMG table on display with information about our training in Oct. & Nov. We would like to have the table manned during peak times during the fair. If you can help with this, contact Teresa Slack and she can get you a fair pass for the week. See back page.

The MCMG Horticulture Committee is asking all Master Gardeners to help with the Horticulture Exhibit at the 4 States Fair this September 8-17, 2017.

As most of you know, it has been several years since the Fine Arts building has been loaded with hanging baskets and potted plants to be judged. We are asking that you bring your hanging baskets and potted

Kids Day at the Fair

The Ag Learning Center is gear up for the 2017 Kids’ Day at the Fair. This is a great educational field day with lots of fun that is FREE to all schools and educational organizations within the four states area.

This year’s Kids’ Day at the Fair will be held September 13

th & 14

th. Your help will be

needed from 8:30-1:30. This is always a fun day for the Master Gardeners to help our Miller County Agents. You will receive a free T-Shirt and lunch is provided for the volunteers.

If you are planning to help, please contact Teresa Slack for a pass to get into the fair. She will also need your t-shirt size and what day you want to work.

During last year’s Kids’ Day, we had approximately 6,000 children, teachers, parents, and adults participate. Without volunteers, this day would not be possible. Your help is greatly appreciated.
