Note The Ohio EPA has implemented a change in the management of fluorescent lamps. Beginning

December 7, 2004 facilities that were recycling their spent lamps can continue to do so, but

must now manage the lamps as universal waste or hazardous waste. This will add a significant

layer of burden and most likely added recycling cost as many current recycling facilities will

not be able to process spent lamps. Generators (not universal waste handlers) can continue to

crush bulbs if they have crushing units with adequate vapor collection and control, but must

now manage the crushed bulbs as hazardous waste. Since there is a continued risk of mercury

exposure to employees when crushing bulbs, Ohio EPA is encouraging generators to send their

spent lamps to recycling facilities rather than crush them. If you have any Questions, please
