Telephone interviews are extremely important to the recruitment process because it is the most

efficient way to find a suitable candidate for the position advertised.

It does not waste time by having several potential candidates come for a formal interview but

realistically only a couple are suitable for the position.

A short 5 minute phone interview will give a clear indication of the applicant’s enthusiasm,

knowledge and overall attitude towards working at My Pasta Bar.

Telephone interviews are a mandatory step in the recruitment process and should never be

skipped.

Please complete the Telephone Interview form in reference to your telephone interview.

Trade Testing

For Chefs it is important they participate in a Trade Test before they are invited for a Formal

Interview.

A Trade Test will give the candidate the ability to demonstrate their skills in the Kitchen and the

Store Manager can witness how they work as a member of the My Pasta Bar Team.

How to Arrange a Trade Test

To arrange a Trade Test the candidate should be contacted via telephone and the process should be

explained to them. It is then imperative that this is confirmed by email.

The trade test should start at 9.30 am and finish around 3.30 pm and will take place at a store

where a My Pasta Bar Chef is able to evaluate their work. This means that the trade test is

unlikely to take place at the store which is recruiting for the position.

It must be communicated to the candidate that they should wear their chef whites and sensible

non-slip footwear.

You must ask a store to host the trade test and ensure the chef will be available to work with the

candidate.

You must then send the Information sheet and scoring sheet to the host store. The scoring sheet is

available in hard or soft copy. Feedback forms for Team Members should also be made available to

the host store.

Trade Testing Criteria

The candidate must prepare the following dishes which will be scored by the My Pasta Bar Chef who

is leading the Trade Test:

Prepare and cook main course for daily menu

Prepare and cook vegetarian main course for daily menu

Prepare a dessert for daily menu

Prepare hospitality buffet working lunch for 6 people (to be taken to client)

Prepare inventive daily special deli-style grab and go salad x 8

To be additionally scored on;

Integration within the team

Communication with the team

Communication with customers

Ingredient/kitchen knowledge

Presence in the Kitchen

What Happens After the Trade Test?

After the Trade Test the My Pasta Bar Chef who was leading the session will complete the scoring

sheet of how they believe the test went.

Other Team Members will also be able to complete a feedback form and return it to the Chef

anonymously.

All documents will then be sent to the Business Administrator who will read the feedback and if

positive will invite the candidate for a Formal Interview.

The store who hosted the Trade Test will then be thanked for their help and participation.

Trade Test

Thank you for taking the time to host a Trade Test at your My Pasta Bar store

These are an extremely important step in the recruitment process for Chefs as a Trade Test

will allow us to gain a better understanding of their skills and ability to work in the My Pasta

Bar environment

We appreciate your help in fulfilling this vital procedure

What Do We Need You To Do?

As the Head Chef at your store we require you to work with the Candidate in overseeing

their work throughout the day

The Candidate is required to prepare and cook the following items:

A main course for the daily menu

A vegetarian main course for the daily menu

A dessert for the daily menu

A hospitality buffet working lunch for 6 people

An inventive daily special deli-style grab and go salad x 8

You will need to complete the scoring sheet in reference to the Candidates output and

attitude. You should work with the Store Manager when doing this.

The Candidate will be additionally scored on:

Integration with the Team

Communication with the Team

Communication with the Customers

Kitchen and Ingredient Knowledge

Their Presence in the Kitchen

You should then give other Team Members the opportunity to complete a feedback form if

they should wish. This will give them the opportunity to express how they felt the day

went. The Team Members must then be presented the chance to return these forms

anonymously. This can be done by arranging a place in which they can leave them.

All feedback forms and scoring sheets must then be returned to the Business Administrator

and if positive feedback is provided an interview will be arranged.

Trial Days

At My Pasta Bar require potential employees to complete two full trial days. Successful candidates

will be paid for these 2 days worked. If the candidate is unsuccessful they will not be paid. This

limits the burden on payroll.

Trial days occur after successful interviews for Team Members and Managers.

Chefs do not require trial days since they attend Trade Tests instead.

How Are Trial Days Arranged?

Trial Days should be arranged by calling the candidate post interview. They are then to be

confirmed via email.

Once a time and date is set with the candidate you should then inform the store or the

arrangement.

What Happens After The Trial Days?

Once the candidate has completed the trial days the Team Members at the store should be given

the opportunity to anonymously complete the Team Member Feedback form.

Managers should be contacted by the Business Administrator to follow up on the trial day and

receive feedback of the day. Feedback forms from Team Members should be sent to the Business

Administrator so they too can be considered.

If feedback from Team Members and Managers is positive then job will then be offered by the

Business Administrator.

If negative feedback is received a post interview regret letter will then be sent to the candidate

informing them of their unsuccessful application.

Post Interview / Trial Day Regret Letter

If a candidate’s interview or trail day was unsuccessful then a regret letter must be sent by the

Business Administrator.

Usually this is communicated to them via email. If an email address is not provided it can be sent

via the postal service.

Good Afternoon,

It is with regret I must inform you that your interview with My Pasta Bar was

unsuccessful as we do not believe you would be well suited to the position as

Manager

If you would like any further feedback please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards,
