Cabinet approves Bilateral Swap Arrangement

between India and Japan

• The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi gave its nod to the proposal for entering into an agreement for $75-billion Bilateral Swap Arrangement (BSA) between India and Japan.

• It was concluded in October last year during summit level meeting at Yamanashi, Japan between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

• The arrangement is expected to greatly enhance the RBI’s ability to manage exchange rate volatility and capital markets in India besides maintaining an appropriate level of balance of payments for meeting short-term deficiency in foreign exchange.

में कें द्रीय मंबत्रमंडल ने भारत और

enterprises closer on a single artificial

intelligence enabled platform, Sino-

Indian Digital Collaboration Plaza

(SIDCOP). The SIDCOP is a

partnership between the Nasscom and

municipal governments of Guiyang and

Dalian in China.

• This platform could be useful to connect

with top providers from India and help

Chinese enterprises source the right

solution providers for their projects.

• 3 storage projects are proposed to be constructed on the river Yamuna and two of its tributaries – Tons and Giri in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh of Upper Yamuna Basin.

This project will meet the drinking water needs of Delhi and the stored water of Renukaji Dam will be used by:

UP, Haryana & NCT of Delhi from Hathnikund Barrage,

by NCT of Delhi from WazirabadBarrage and

by UP, Haryana and Rajasthan from Okhla Barrage.

• The 11th edition of EIU Democracy Index 2018 was released by the Economist Intelligent Unit compiling the state of democracies in 167 countries in the world.

• In the list, Norway topped and India has ranked at 42st place on the Economist Intelligence Unit’s annual Global Democracy Index. The Index was started in 2006.

• India has moved down from 32nd place last year and remains classified among “flawed democracies”.

• The top 3 performing countries on the Democracy Index 2018 are:1. Norway2. Iceland3. Sweden.

Chhattisgarh govt withdraws consent to CBI to

probe cases

in the state.

• The state government has

conveyed the decision to the Union

investigation without the consent of

the state government after this

decision.

• Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal

have already withdrawn the

general consent given to the CBI.

• Khalsa Sect: After the martyrdom of his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, Guru Gobind Singh had declared that he would create such a Panthwhich would challenge the tyrant rulers in every walk of life to restore justice, equality and peace for all of mankind. launched the ‘Ama Ghare LED’

(LED bulbs in our houses) scheme

which will benefit about 95 lakh

families in the State.

• Each beneficiary family will get four

LED bulbs free of cost under the

scheme.

• The LED project will help curb

high-watt consumption. Odisha

requires about 3.8 crore LED bulbs

for the purpose.

• The bulbs will be distributed during

People’s Empowerment Enabling

Transparency and Accountability

(PEETHA) camps from January 15

to 20 at across the State.

महत्वाकांक्षी गगनयान बमशन की

तैयारी चल रही है।

• उन्ोनें बमशन के बलए समय बनधावररत

बकया बजसके अनुसार इसरो के बलए दो

मानव रबहत बमशनों को अंतररक्ष में

भेजने का लक्ष्य बदसंिर 2020 और

जुलाई 2021 है।

• चालक दल का प्रबशक्षण भारत और

रूस दोनों में बकया जाएगा और मबहला

अंतररक्ष यात्री भी टीम का बहस्सा होगंी।

• Ashok Chawla has resigned as

Public Interest Director/Chairman

of the Board of Directors of the

National Stock Exchange of India

Ltd (NSE) with immediate effect in

the light of recent legal

developments.

• Mr Chawla is named, along with

other bureaucrats and former

Finance Minister P Chidambaram,

in the Aircel-Maxis bribery case

being probed by the CBI.

• The CBI had filed its charge-sheet

last July but had been waiting for

the government's nod to start

prosecution against the

bureaucrats.
