RECOVER LAPLAYA VISTA, CA 58,667 SQ. FT.

Recover LA is an innovative, sustainable, three process

recovery center for alcohol and drug abuse.

The building’s design mirrors the facilities purpose of creating

order out of chaos and lends to the patients’ recovery through a process of multipurpose spaces,

coherency, and community.

The building used is the pre-existing Sci-Arc building in Downtown Los

Angeles.

The site resides in the marsh land on the outskirts of Loyola Marymount in

Playa Vista, making it an ideal place for recovery due to its’ isolated nature.

Inspired by Andy Goldsworthy’s piece, the floor plans of the building were created by bringing the chaos out of Los Angeles and localizing it in the building through

a map.

The map exhibits three support systems within Los Angeles County- Hospitals, Alocholics Anonymous, and Al-Anon, that have been inspired by recovering addicts

and their families to support them on the road to recovery.
