BULLETIN REFLECTION

In today’s Gospel, Jesus visits His Apostles on the

shore.

LIVING STEWARDSHIP - Pillar of Prayer

Jesus came to His Apostles after He resurrected

from the dead. He met with Peter and instructed

him to tend his sheep. This Easter season, be

silent in your prayer and listen to what God is

asking of you.

THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER

In this Sunday’s Gospel, the disciples in their struggle finally recognize Jesus and proclaim, “It is the Lord!”

Have you considered answering the call to “help the poor recognize the Lord in their life” by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?

NOTE:

The QTMHR Senior Social Club will soon have its monthly calendar online at our website qtmhr.com

"SMOTING" OR NON-"SMOTING"?

Sometimes I get angry at things that frustrate me. So I have to struggle with the line in our first reading, where the disciples were "rejoicing that they had been found worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name" (Acts 5:41).

Imagine rejoicing over pain and suffering. These disciples had seen Jesus on the cross. When he rose from the dead, they began to see that his suffering was not a tragic loss, but a sign of his glory. And when they suffered because they believed in him, as in today's reading, they saw that as a way to imitate Jesus on the cross. Those who had followed him in life could also follow him to the cross.

Most of us today find ourselves suffering because we have done wrong. God does not use special interventions to smite sinners. Think of the times we were punished as a child. Think of the times we lost a friend because of a cruel remark. These are the result of our actions. These are sufferings that we would rather avoid.

Jesus, however, suffered for our sins when he was totally innocent. If he could do that, could we not accept suffering for our own sins when it comes? If we behave differently because of it, if we can grow to be better persons, then that suffering can be our way of accepting the cross.

Of course, not all suffering is caused by the sins of the person suffering. The suffering of the innocent is a great mystery, a cause for sorrow and a challenge to help where we can. But like growing pains, all suffering is a step to new life in Christ. And that is what Easter is about.

FROM THE PASTOR

The Church worldwide is engaged in a Synod on Synodality. Pope Francis and the bishops would like to hear from you. The way they have proposed is to listen to the Holy Spirit and to each other to discern the path we are called to walk together for a welcoming church, with open doors, inhabited by fraternal relationships.

Our parish, likewise, is invited to enter that process. I am organizing Town Hall meetings with different communities of the parish to gather ideas.

On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, I would like to meet with the English-speaking community and on Thursday, May 5, 2022, from 7:45 PM to 10:00 PM, the Spanish Community, in the church. All are invited.

I am submitting these questions for your reflection before the meetings:

1) What is the Holy Spirit saying to the church today?

2) How is this “journeying together” to announce the Gospel happening today in our local parish?

3) What difficulties and obstacles have we encountered in our journey together?

4) What do you think would make our parish (or ecclesial community) better?

5) What can each of us do and what can we do collective-ly to make it better?

6) What steps does the Spirit invite us to take in order to grow in our journeying together?
