Geraldine Hunt

BVSc PhD MasterVetClinStud Dipl. ACVS

Geraldine Hunt graduated from the University of Sydney and worked in private practice before

undertaking a PhD in cardiac electrophysiology. She returned to the University of Sydney for a small animal surgery residency (Fellowship of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists) before working at the same institution as a Lecturer in Anatomy, followed by Small Animal Surgery. Her main interests are in the anatomy, biology and treatment of congenital vascular diseases of dogs, reconstructive surgery (in particular, skin flaps) and new techniques for veterinary education in comparative anatomy and medicine. Geraldine is dedicated to better understanding small animal surgical diseases and refining surgical options to allow development of practical methods of treatment, improving veterinary practice and patient welfare world-wide.

Dr Rod Bishop

Dr Rod Bishop is an emergency physician who has recently retired from clinical practice after nearly two decades at the director

of one of Sydney’s busiest emergency departments. He continues his academic affiliation with the Sydney Medical School at the University of Sydney. Like all clinicians he makes mistakes, but he also has a strong academic interest in clinical error, particularly diagnostic error and the cognitive processes that underlie it.

Annette Katelaris

MBBS MPH FRACGP

Annette Katelaris is an Associate Professor and the founding Director of Professional Medical Education at Sydney Medical

School. Her group have developed 6 postgraduate Master programs which they deliver to young health professionals. Formally, Annette was Editor of the Medical Journal of Australia and contributed to the establishment of the Australian Clinical Trials Alliance. Annette was a practising general practitioner for more than 20 years and is the co-developer of Juno Childsafe, a novel child safety device for the storage of medications.

Anthony Bennett

BVSc (Hons I)

Anthony Bennett is a veterinarian and the star of Village Vets Australia on The LifeStyle Channel. Anthony graduated from

Sydney University in 2004 with first class honours. His first job was at the Berry Vet Clinic, working for Geoff Scarlett and Geoff Manning, which enabled him to live on the family farm in Nowra. Anthony gravitated towards the dairy cattle and small animal medicine and surgery aspects of the clinic. In 2005 Anthony sat and passed The Australian Cattle Association pregnancy testing exam. Soon after he became accredited with Animal Health Australia to manage cattle, sheep, goat and alpaca herds in their respective Johnes market assurance programs. Anthony is registered to manage sheep herds for ovine Brucellosis and is also an AQIS accredited vet for live animal export.

Taking a share in the practice in 2008 with now-retired veterinarian Dr Geoff Manning, he today co-owns and operates the practice with his best friend James Carroll. They opened a third practice, All Creatures Clinic, in the

coastal area of Shoalhaven Heads last year. Currently President of the Shoalhaven branch of the Australian Veterinary society and honorary vet at the Berry Show, Anthony is also on the Dairy Panel for the Royal Easter Show. Anthony is engaged to successful equestrian showjumper, Sidney Roberts.

James Carroll

BVSc (Hons I)

James Carroll is a Veterinarian and the star of Village Vets Australia on The LifeStyle Channel. Born in Queensland,

James grew up between his family’s farm in Bundarra in Northern NSW, Sydney and Brisbane. James graduated from Sydney University in 2004 with first class honours, and first worked in mixed practice in Northern NSW in Barraba and Manilla, gaining experience across all aspects of mixed practice. In 2007 James travelled to work in the UK where he worked until 2010. James worked in Northern Wales, Cambridgeshire and Kent in mixed practice and in a 24 hour Emergency Centre.

Following extensive travels in a campervan around Europe for several months, James returned to Australia with his wife, Ronnie, in 2010. James initially worked at Ku-Ring-Gai Vet Hospital in Sydney before moving to Berry in 2012. James completed his AACV pregnancy testing exam in cattle in 2005 and the head vet course for vetting Endurance rides the same year. James is currently enrolled in a Masters degree in Small Animal Practice through Murdoch University. James has a special interest in small animal medicine, ultrasound of both small and large animals and in Bull fertility.

John Baguley

BVSc MBA PhD GradCertEdStud (HEd.) MANZCVS

John graduated from The University of Sydney and worked mostly in small animal practice

for over 10 years. While in practice he completed his College membership in pharmacology and an MBA from Macquarie University. John joined the University of Sydney Faculty of Veterinary Science in 2003 where he coordinated the Professional Practice Program and the final year Veterinary Student Internship Program. John has a PhD in veterinary practice marketing and a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education). His research interests include veterinary practice management and education. He is currently Registrar of the Veterinary Practitioners Board of NSW and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney.

Mark Krockenberger

BSc(Vet) BVSc PhD

Mark Krockenberger was brought up in a family that had a love and strong commitment to wildlife and nature. Consequently, it was not

surprising that he acquired a BVSc honours degree from the University of Sydney in 1993. Along the way he took time out to complete a wildlife research BSc (Vet) honours degree in 1992 working under Professor Michael Bryden on the Southern Elephant seal. Upon graduation and marriage to a fellow graduate, Jo and Mark set out to focus on small animal and farm animal practice in Victoria, NSW and the UK. However, the call of his beloved wildlife was too much for Mark and he returned to the Faculty of Veterinary Science in 1997 to undertake a PhD on cryptococcosis in koalas, under the supervision of Paul Canfield and Richard Malik. From that moment, Mark’s academic career flourished and he proved himself to be an outstanding wildlife researcher, teacher and veterinary pathologist. He has an international reputation for his research in both wildlife and companion animals and in 2004 received the Clunies Ross Memorial Award from the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. Mark has particular interests in fungal diseases, including cryptococcosis, and the broader topic of host:parasite: environment interactions in relation to disease causation. He has over 130 publications and a creditable H index of 28. Mark has received the National Pearson Education Uniserve Science Award in 2006 and a Vice-Chancellor’s Award for outstanding teaching in 2009. He became a registered specialist in Veterinary Pathobiology after successfully completing his Fellowship Examination in Anatomical Pathology through the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. Currently, he is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Clinical Activities at the University of Sydney.

Michael Reynolds

BVM&S DCHP MRCVS

Mike Reynolds qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2003 and after three years in mixed practice, has since worked exclusively in

production animal medicine. He gained the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Cattle Health and Production in 2011, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Diploma in Cattle Health and Production in 2015 and is an RCVS recognised Specialist in Cattle Health and Production. He has published and presented work on Cattle Health and Production in the UK and on the international stage with his main interests in the epidemiology and control of infectious disease, clinical governance and Advanced Reproductive technologies.

John Dooley

BVSc

John Dooley graduated from the University of Sydney in 1975. He has been in mixed-species practice since then, mainly in

the Manning Valley. In January 2011, his very successful Wingham Vet Clinic merged with the Valley Veterinary Hospital to become Wingham and Valley Vets. John has long enjoyed the challenge of being competent across all species – friends who are single-species specialists say their jobs are much simpler! Specific areas of interest for John are ear disease in dogs and cats, soft tissue surgery, skin diseases, laminitis in horses and lameness conditions in cattle. He is also passionate about educating and mentoring student vets.

Penny Brown

BVSc (Hons I) MANZCVS

Penny Brown graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours in 2011. During university she worked in specialist and

referral practice as a nurse, which helped to develop a keen interest in Oncology and cancer therapy in animals. She worked in mixed practice in the Hunter Valley after graduating and enjoyed the country lifestyle but returned to Sydney in 2013 for a rotating internship and then Oncology internship at SASH.

Penny finished her residency training in Veterinary Oncology in April 2017 and is now the Oncology Registrar at SASH. She is a member of the Veterinary Cancer Society and has obtained her Memberships of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in small animal medicine. She regularly participates in continuing education talks to general practitioners in both Sydney and regional NSW. She has a keen interest in haematological cancers and has published papers on multiple myeloma, anal sac cancer in cats and chemotherapy for T cell lymphoma in dogs. Outside of work she is kept busy studying for Fellowship exams, her spotty horse PJ and ginger cat Ron.

Anne Fawcett

Anne Fawcett is a lecturer in veterinary professional practice

in the Faculty of Veterinary Science. Anne has teaching experience as a lecturer and unit of study coordinator. She developed a new ethics course within professional practice and has lectured on veterinary ethics at both the University of Sydney and the University of Queensland.

Paul Ainsworth

Paul Ainsworth, the founding director of the Lincoln Institute, is a highly sought after executive coach, facilitator and keynote

presenter. Paul is a graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy, University of New South Wales, the Royal Military College Duntroon and was awarded the prestigious Sasakawa Leadership Scholarship by the Australian Graduate School of Management’s Executive MBA program.
