1 Safety regulations.

The personnel engaged with the installation, the use and the maintenance of the equipment has to be

familiar with the theory and practice of first aid.

1.1 Treatment of electrical shocks.

When the victim loses his consciousness:

Put into practice the following first aid principles.

Position the victim lying down on his back on a rigid surface.

Open the respiratory airways lifting up the neck and pushing down the front (Fig. 1).

If necessary, open the mouth to check the respiration.

In case the victim doesn’t breath, start immediately the artificial respiration (figure 2): bend the

head, close the nostrils, attach the mouth to the victim one’s and do 4 quick mouth-to-mouth

respirations

Check the pulsation (Figure 3); in case of absence of pulsation, start immediately the cardiac

massage (Figure 4) pressing the breastbone in the middle of the thorax (Figure 5).

When there is only one rescuer, he has to maintain a rhythm of 15 compressions alternated with 2

quick respirations.

In case there are two rescuers, the rhythm should be one respiration each 5 compressions.

Do not interrupt the cardiac massage during the artificial breathing

Call a doctor as soon as possible

When the victim is conscious

Cover up the victim with a blanket.

Try to calm down the victim.

Unbutton the cloche and lay down the victim.

Call a doctor as soon as possible.

1.2 Treatment of electrical burns.

Large burns and cuts of the skin

Cover up the interested area with a clean sheet or cloth.

Do not open the blisters; remove the fabric and the parts of the clothes attached to the skin; apply

a suitable ointment.

Treat the victim according to the type of accident.

Take the victim to the hospital as soon as possible.

When the arms and legs are affected keep them raised.

When there is no doctor available within an hour and the victim is conscious and does not retch, give a

liquid solution containing salt and sodium bicarbonate: 1 teaspoon of salt and half a teaspoon of sodium

bicarbonate for each 250 ml of water.

Have the victim sip half a glass of the solution for four times and for 15 minutes.

Stop when retching.

Do not give any alcoholics

Less serious burns

Apply cold (not frozen) gauzes using a clean as possible cloth.

Do not open the blisters; remove the fabric and the parts of the clothes attached to the skin; apply

a suitable ointment.

When necessary, put on clean and dry clothes.

2 General Description.

The REBLE310-ODU is the outdoor version of the REBLE310, from which it differs for the separation

between modem and RF part (both located in a waterproof aluminum case) from the digital I/O section and

control.

The indoor unit or control unit (REBLE310-IDU) belongs to the same chassis of the REBLE310, and it is

realized in a new, compact (1U rack 19”) and high-end solution. A double hot-swappable power supply is

also present, available both in AC and DC version.

The improved ICs technology allows the implementation of direct frequency conversion from baseband I/Q

components to the final frequency, without IF stages. This assures no spurious emissions due to L.O. and

very compact sizes of both transmitter and receiver modules.

Mono and bidirectional configurations are available, as well as a relay version with the possibility of

asymmetrical configurations regarding frequency range and modulation schemes.

The high clock frequency allows the link achieve up to 40MHz bandwidth, transporting a 200 Mbit/s

payload in 128 QAM modulation. The I/O section is to be chosen depending on the application; 3 versions

are available: the first one with 4 ASI/BTS channels and one E1, the second with 2 ASI/BTS channels, one

STM-1 and one E1 and the third with 2 ASI/BTS, 1 E1 and a GbE port.

Many accessories are integrated in order to optimize spaces in remote sites, such as the hitless switch for

redundant configurations, the double hot-swappable power supply. A new embedded software offers

complete control of all parameters of the link, driving an easy user interface with a TFT touch screen and a

keyboard accessible from the front panel, for very simple and immediate maintenance and

troubleshooting. An intuitive web interface allows a local or remote user to manage the equipment, as well

as through SNMP protocol.

4 Installation.

Unpack the equipment and check first of all check if there are any damages due to the transport.

The box should contain:

o The RF Head REBLE310-ODU (ODU).

o Hanger kit (if bought)

o The control unit REBLE310-IDU (IDU).

o The interconnection cable between IDU and ODU.

o One or two AC power supply cables, depending on power source options bought.

o One or two DC power supply cables, depending on power source options bought.

o The user manual

Make sure that there is enough space between other functioning equipment generating high

temperatures and that there are no obstructions in the ventilation. (The functioning is guaranteed in

a temperature range from -10 ºC ÷ +55 ºC).

The equipment must be correctly grounded, to guarantee a secure functioning.

Be sure of the correct power voltage reading the information on the manual or on the label attached

to each equipment, containing the serial number.

Install the RF Head using the hanger kit for on mast or tower mounting.

Connect the flange(s) of the equipment to the antenna system for the connection to the branching

system and the antenna.

Connect the cable between IDU and ODU.

Connect the supply cable(s) to the plug(s) on the back panel of the IDU

Configure the equipment according to the needs consulting the user manual.

5 User Interface. The user interface consists of a 6-key keyboard, a general alarm led and a graphical TFT display.

The directional keys allow the repositioning of the cursor between the active areas of a page; the active

areas are listed and explained further on in this paragraph. The ENTER key is used to confirm the selection

while the ESC key is used to return to the former menu.

Nevertheless the much easier, but more delicate, TOUCH SCREEN function is enabled. It is highly

recommended not to use the fingers but a piece of plastic, or in case, even a toothpick, to access all angels

of the display.

According to the configuration of the device -Monodirectional Transmitter (Tx), Monodirectional Receiver

(Rx) and Bidirectional (FD) - the pertinent menus are highlighted hereafter.

In order to modify the equipment parameters, a login procedure is needed clicking on active area shown in

next figure.

5.1 Main menu. Starting up the device, after the loading of the embedded software, on the displays appears the main menu

according to the chosen configuration as shown in Figure 9, Figure 10 and Figure 11.

The menu represents summarily the block diagram of the equipment, facilitating and intuitive access to the

parameters of each module; the cursor moves clock wisely pressing the right key and anti-clock wisely

pressing the left key. The ENTER key confirms the access to the selected active area (highlighted by an

empty rectangle with red outlines ) while the ESC key accesses the main menu.

Each active area has one or more circles stylizing the alarm led; turning red or green in case the active area

presents or not an alarm condition.

In case of available feature, depending on the installed interface we’ll see:

This feature allows to assign a limit to the band any flow can use. This allows, in case for example one ASI

flow exceeds ,for any reason, from the foreseen band, to avoid to damage the other flows. You can note

that the E1 flows and the STM1 one are not addressable, because they are synchronous.

All the other may be fixed by the user using the nowadays usual arrows.

The ‘NET B.RATE’ field shows the whole available band.

5.5 ODU - Modem menu. The modem menu is composed of some pages that let the monitoring and the configuration of main

parameters of the modulator and the demodulator. The two sections are completely independent and can

be configured asymmetrically.

Navigation through the pages is performed through directional arrows.

The configuration of the modem is performed loading configuration files stored in the SD card (up to 20

files); through the user interface it’s possible to browse the database in order to select the desired setting.

5.5.1 Modem measurements menu.

The measurements menu shows the modulator and the demodulator main parameters.

For the modulator section, only the Symbol Rate measurement is available; this measure should fit the one

shown in the configurations database. See following paragraph for details.

The demodulator section presents 5 measures:

1. Carrier Offset shows the frequency difference between the received signal and 0 Hz. As the system

is a direct frequency conversion radio, this parameter is very important in order to avoid heavy

impairments of I and Q baseband components. An AFC (automatic frequency control) circuit s

always active in order to compensate for eventual RF oscillators drifts, caused by aging,

temperature or other eventual factors.

2. BER shows the Bit Error Rate before the Reed-Solomon decoder.

3. AGC shows the level of the demodulator automatic gain control circuit. This measures is not

important for the monitoring of the equipment.

4. The MSE (Mean Square Error) is the measure of the microwave link C/N. Depending on the

modulation scheme, there are different critical MSE levels. Please contact the supplier for further

information or refer to the test report to verify the MSE threshold for the actual configuration.

5. The Data Rate shows the actual configuration payload.

5.5.2 Modem alarms menu.

The alarms menu shows the most important alarms for the modulator and the demodulator.

Timing Loop is the only alarm of the modulator section; if the modulator is not locked to the data clock, this

led is red and the link is compromised.

The demodulator section presents 3 alarms:

1. Lock alarm indicates the lock status of the demodulator.

2. BER Th. alarm indicates that the BER Before Reed-Solomon is above the threshold that has been set

by the user. As default this threshold is set to 2x10-4.

3. MSE Th. alarm indicates that the MSE value is below the threshold for the used modulation.

Attention:

The alarm icon relative to the FPGA Error indicates that the signal controller has not been programmed

correctly and the equipment cannot work. This kind of failure is to be signaled very quickly to the supplier.

5.5.3 Modem general menu.

The modem general menu shows the selected configurations for either modulator or demodulator. For

clarity and simplicity, just the modulation scheme, the occupied bandwidth and the net bitrate are shown.

Moreover it’s possible to set the internal generator of CW (Continuous Wave), of two tones, the I/O data

digital loopback and the I/Q data loopback.

This menu shows 6 parameters that let the user to identify the configuration file univocally.

1. MOD.SCH is the modulation scheme (QPSK, 16 QAM, 32 QAM, 64 QAM, 128 QAM, and 256 QAM).

2. BIT RATE is the payload.

3. REED-SOL shows the parameters of the Reed Solomon FEC (forward error correction).

4. BANDWIDTH shows the occupied bandwidth.

5. PTCM shows the code rate for the convolutional (QPSK) or the PTCM (Pragmatic Trellis Coded

Modulation) FEC protection.

6. SYM. RATE is the Symbol Rate value.

Moreover, the menu shows a progressive number that corresponds to the position in the database. In

order to choose a new configuration, it’s necessary to move with directional arrows on button .

The actual configuration is underlined in green characters.

Attention: This operation causes the link interruption and can lead to undesired conditions in case

the same operation is not repeated in the corresponding section of the equipment that receives/transmits

from/to the actual. In order to establish a connection is in fact necessary that the same configuration is

loaded in both equipment, that’s to say in the modulator section of the transmitter and in the demodulator

section of the receiver.

5.6 ODU - Tx menu. The transmitter menu consists of a page that let the user monitor and configure the main parameters of

the transmitting module; the menu is enabled only if the equipment is FD or Tx.

5.7 ODU - Rx menu. The receiver menu consists of a page that let the user monitor and configure the main parameters of the

receiving module; the menu is enabled only if the equipment is FD or Rx.

5.10 Cable Interface - Power menu. The Cable Interface Power menu let the user monitor if the primary Voltage + Vout before the switch, the

related Intensity of electrical current Iout, and the Voltage after the switch. Moreover ii indicates the

6 WEB interface. The REBLE310-ODU provide a WEB interface for a simple and very user friendly equipment monitoring and

setting.

Connection to the Web Server is performed through the RJ-45 connector located in the front panel; with a

Web Browser (such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Safari..) it’s possible to

remotely or locally control the status of the REBLE310-ODU and verify its performances, just writing its IP

address. To control the IP address, please refer to par. 5.3.4.

These frames let the user monitor and configure the functioning of the fans installed in the front panel.

The Automatic checkbox set as automatic the fans driving, whose speed can be read in the box Speed

(rpm); in this case it’s necessary to establish temperature targets for the modules equipped with sensor,

and the system controller will drive the fans in order to maintain the temperatures set by the user.

In case the Automatic checkbox is disabled, on the contrary, the user should set manually the speed in

percentage with the maximum speed, increasing or decreasing the value clicking on the arrows.

The Refresh button let the user to update the frame in case of network congestion.

which is communicated in case of customer request.

The I/O board WEB page is composed of different frames depending on the board installed (4ASI, GbE or

STM-1).

At the top is available a frame that let the user enable/disable through checkbox every input and output

channel.

Clicking on icon the user can access to a further frame letting him set the alarm threshold for BER.

modulator and the demodulator. The text box beside these icons indicates the location of the configuration

in use.

Attention:

Changing the modem configuration is an operation that interrupts the link in both directions; be sure that

the amount of data to be carried is lower than the configuration capacity and that passive elements of the

microwave link are conveniently dimensioned for the desired reliability of the connection.

Attention:

The frequency change is instantaneous and this can lead to link interruption and to the generation of out of

band signals, with possible interference on channel utilized by other users.

The Automatic checkbox manages the power control of the transmitter (or the booster, if present). In

Automatic modality, the backoff is set by the system controller on the basis of the utilized modulation

scheme.(see technical specifications for further information).

In case of manual control, the backoff box reveals a drop-down menu that let the user modify the

transmitter (or the booster, if present) output level, limited by the modulation type for not exceeding

factory limits.

The same frame shows a text box in which the transmitter power detected is indicated; if the booster is

present, the box will suggest seeing the booster page.

6.4.3 ODU Tx – Squelch Ctrl.

The Cable Interface Signal menu let the user monitor the communication between IDU and ODU.

8 Maintenance. The equipment maintenance depends on the alarms detected through user interface or opportune

instrumentation.

It’s possible to replace the AC/DC or DC/DC supply eventually damaged and the fans located in the front

panel. For other modules, in case of failure, the shipment to the manufacturer is required.

8.1 Fan replacing. The fan replacing is required in case of related alarm (see par. 5.3.2, 5.3.3, 6.1.2) or in case of evident

blockage of fans due to dust and/or other objects. The replacing action can be “hot”, let’s say it’s not

necessary to switch off the equipment.

8.2 Power supply replacing. Power supply module replacing is necessary in case of failure, revealed by the user interface.

The operations to be done are:

1. Remove the supply cable from the faulty module.

2. Remove the two screws fixing the module to the chassis.

3. Extract the supply module, with the help of the handle.

4. Insert the new module, with the help of the aluminum guide for a good alignment.

5. Fix the module to the chassis with two screws.

6. Connect the supply cable.

7. Verify the good functioning through the user interface.
