I. Introduction
This paper is going to focus on three aspects that involve religion and are very common
in the present society. The first topic that will be addressed is politics and religion. It is a very
large topic. Therefore, the main subject of this topic is religions freedom and the state role. The
second topic that will be discussing is the relationship between religion and well-being. This is a
very important topic because the stability of one society is directly linked to the well-being of its
population. The last topic is children and the formation of the idea of religion. The importance of
this subject is that children are the future rulers of the society. This paper is going to explain and
to argue about how three are linked and how they influence society stability. After the
relationship among; religion, society and state will be formulated.
II. Feedback
To understand the following discussion a previous knowledge of the meaning of some
words in the context of this discussion could be very helpful. Toward there are this words.
According with Harris Testimony is; the knowledge acquires by the words from other, for
instance we have the roman history, we cannot observe the roman history; however by books we
get knowledge about it. Observation; the way to acquire knowledge by watching something, it is
like when we watch anybody driving a car we get this knowledge, according Harris.
Other point that needs a previous understanding is the comprehension of religion. The
Oxford dictionary defines religion as the beliefs and worship of a superhuman power.
However, this writer can infer by observation that religion is more than this definition. Religion
is present in the daily activities such as work. For instance, Americans have the protestant ethics,
according to the Encyclopedia Britannic, in short words, it is the value attached to hard work,
and in addition, protestant ethics is very popular in countries that have majority protestant

religions, as such as U.S. Therefore, this researcher can infer that religion is a modulator of the
society culture.
III. Development
Today a numerous contingent of countries in the world adopt a democratic system;
nevertheless, some countries are in theory democratic but preserve with religious laws and
restrictions. According to Bevg-Sorenson (2006), for a government to be democratic the
politicization of religions should be avoided. However, this idea has been changing in Europe
and America. Now a current theory claims that religion could actually be helpful for improving
society (Bevg-Sorenson). Thus, religion can play a positive role in the social development. To
exemplify the idea addressed above, it is important consider the U.S as example. In the U.S,
religion is not directly linked to the government, thus the government is secular. However, the
majority of U.S population has religious beliefs, as their culture has been greatly influenced by
the religions practices such as protestant ethics. This culture helps the county to improve. However
protestant ethics is not a law because the state does not request that people follow this
philosophy. Nonetheless it is inside the cultural formation of the Americans.
On other hand, there is the following question: how can religious freedom and religious
politicians co-exist? Politics is made by people, politicians. Therefore, if the politician is
religious, it could likely influence his conduct. According to Bevg-Sorenson (2006), religious
politicians could use their job to make public policy favorable to their religion. However, Bevg-
Sorenson wrote that, as religious people, these politicians tend to be honest and follow the laws.
Thus, if the state is secular, laic, and democratic, the religious politician should not involve his
religion in his job. In this context, the politicians are preserving the religious freedom, even when
they follow specific religion.

This writer would like to discuss the following question: should the government work
together with religion in social aspects and keep the religious freedom? In other words, should
the government work in cooperation with religion to improve the country, even though the
country is currently laic? According to Bevg-Sorenson (2006), the government has been
observing religions as opposite for many years. To be free and independent, the governments
should be organized, independent of religion. However, the government should preserve
religious freedom, subsequently the religion needs to exist. Where religion exists religious
people exists too, and people make a government a country. The task of a liberal and free
government is establishing the bases of coexistence of many religions; it will improve the society
for itself (Bevg-Sorenson).
As religious freedom, another important aspect of society is the well-being of its people,
how satisficed the population is. According to Lim and Putnam (2010), well-being can be used
as an indicator of life quality, and we can extend it to be an indicator of social stability. A happy
population does not drive to disorder, thus the society stays stable. Therefore, how is religion
associated to well-being? Lim and Putnam explain that religion is a source of happiness. They
contend that religious people are happiest than non-religious. The experts are not sure how
religion shapes well-being; nevertheless, they do not have doubts about the relationship between
both. Lim and Putnam (2010) argued other points of view, that the way is not religious people
generate happy people, but happy people find religions. Religion is at last an individual choice;
due to it happy people go to religion not religion creates happy people Therefore, the relationship
between both keeps, however the order is altered. In short, the difference between these two
points of view, religion makes people happy or happy people find religion, is not very important.

In both ways, society is improved; therefore the difference is only the direction, r the order of the
factors.
This writer is going to talk about children, and how they learn about religion. Children
can infer a lot of information by observation. According to Harris and Koenig (2006), observed
knowledge is the way that one learns by watching or observing some event. Therefore, children
can utilize observation to acquire knowledge about the ambient surround them. However, how
can children get knowledge about one subject that is not surrounding them?
To answer the question above we should make use of the testimony knowledge.
Testimony knowledge, according to Harris and Koenig (2006), is when some informants make
claims based on their firsthand experience, and the listener make claims based in the knowledge
of the informant. For example we have the Bible, who wrote the Bible sent to us your knowledge
about the events narrated in the Bible, and we acquire our knowledge by read the Bible and make
claims. Therefore, it is the way that children acquire knowledge about religion and other things.
Harris and Koenig postulate that children use this knowledge to satisfy their needs about religion
and this knowledge serves very well during the infancy.
Right now due to the testimony of Harris and Koenig (2006) we now what is the
testimony and observation knowledge and how children get knowledge about religion. However,
how these three things; testimony, observation, and religion are linked. According to Harris and
Koenig (2006), children use the knowledge of testimony from their parents or teacher to
establish their ideas about religion; they hear the testimony of these people and create their own
idea about religion. However, the testimony knowledge should pass to the sieve, filter, of the
observed knowledge, (Harris and Koenig). In other words, the knowledge could come from the
testimony; however this knowledge cannot be in disagreement with observed knowledge. To

illustrate; figure that a teacher told to children that the rain go to the earth to the sky, when
children watched the rain children will realize that the testimony of their teacher is not truth, the
rain come to sky to earth. The same happen with the idea of religion figured by children although
the testimony knowledge.
VI. Conclusion
After this discussion about these three relationships between religion and society, this
paper can figure how religions influence the society. The religious culture inside the society can
make the way of this society deal with many situations. For instance, we have the massive
educational system implicated in counties like U.S. It is heritage of protestant religion,
Protestants ethics. Thus, it is easy realize that is one relationship between religion and culture.
This relationship is soft expressed by the laws of one society by the equal rights or fundamental
rights. Some laws are as intuition of religious customs, and it is accepted by society because this
culture is implicit in the society. It is one way to see that religion is present in the daily of society
life. However, people may be waiting more of the religion, after all the social aspect religion is
also one belief that help the man to find his north. Due to it, the state has one dedicated
relationship with religion.
The government could not be subordinated to religion; on the other side it cannot destroy
the religion. Therefore, the government should preserve both by the respect of all religions.
However the executive power should be laic in the exercise of your function. To achieve this
ideal situation is not easy and probably is not a hundred percent possible. However, to be near of
this ideal state could improve very much the society. The religion works together the
government can make the people happy and improve the well-being of the population. It could
create a safe and good ambient to children learn about religion and grow as good adults.
