Lesson 22: once, time, last, be, this
Read with your child for 15+ minutes a day.
Create a treehouse. (Take a picture of your child’s creation and email it to
Mrs. Stewart for our weekly newsletter)
• See the attached “Roll a Sight Word” games for weeks 20 - 23 of the Grade One Word Wall program.
•Make a list of all of the things you are thankful for. Draw a picture of a few favourites.
• Gather 10 small items (20 if in Grade One). Spread your items on a flat surface. Count to be sure there are 10 (or 20). Without looking, cover some of the counters with the cup. Open your eyes and determine how many counters are under the cup. Check to see. Repeat many times.
• Create a weather graph and document how many sunny, windy, rainy and cloudy days we have.
• See the attached Neighbourhood Scavenger Hunt
• Start a Nature Journal. Here are some ideas and tips: 1. Include date, time, weather, and location. 2. To guide children’s drawings, ask leading questions: what colours, patters, or shapes do you see? 3. Draw the surrounding landscape (sunny, shaded, high up, close to ocean, etc.) 4. If you see an animal, what does it look like? What is it doing? 5. Nothing more is needed than using children’s own natural senses, curiosity, and wonder (parent’s too)!
• try www.gonoodle.com for some fun activities online

• See the attached Word Search for weeks 22 & 23 of the Grade One Word Wall program. Thanks, Mrs. Zumkeller, for creating this game for us!
• Paint letters on rocks (or write them on cut up pieces of paper) and practice building your sight words, people’s names, or familiar words using the letters.
• Play the attached Shapes Scavenger Hunt •Play Memory (you can play with regular cards) Lay the cards face down in a 4
by 13 grid. Players take turns turning over two cards, trying to match numbers. If a player makes a match, they pick up the cards and go again. If the numbers do not match, they are turned back over. The point of the game is to remember each card that is exposed that is not a match. Play continues until all the cards have been matched. The player with the most cards wins.
• Try the insect yoga poses attached.
• Play freeze dance with your favourite music. Challenge yourself to freeze in a balance pose.
• try www.gonoodle.com for some fun activities online
