Big Wave 46-57

In what ways had Jiya been permanently changed by the big wave?

Jiya has changed since the Big Wave came. He lost his family, house, and also he has to make a decision. “Life is stronger than death” Kino’s father says. I agree with him. From that Jiya had learned that he will never be afraid of the life and death. He returned to be happy and cheerful again. Like when my school pet turtle died, I was so sad and upset because I liked it a lot and cared about the turtle the most. But I noticed that I couldn’t be all upset all the time because there’s a lot more to do for me. I thought that the turtle was living in my heart.

How does Kino react to Jiya’s announcement that he want to marry Setsu? Do you think this is a strange or realistic reaction?

He is jealous and sad that both of them will go out of the house. “You would be foolish to marry Setsu” Kino says. I don’t think so. I think Jiya and Setsu will live happily. He is very upset even though he doesn’t like Setsu he likes her. Like I would be sad if my brother will go and marry with someone, even if he is mean to me. Well, I wouldn’t be able to say to stay here and live with me because it’s his life and it’s his life anyways. I can’t always stay close to him.

Jiya’s life has come full circle. In almost every way he has returned to the life of his ancestors. What one change has he made in the name if progress? What is your opinion of this one change?

Jiya has changed a lot. He is now strong and brave and following what his ancestors did. He used to be scared of the sea. “If ever the big wave comes back, I shall be ready. I face it. I am not afraid.” Jiya says. He is now facing the sea which is very brave of him to do. Like when I was in 1st grade in Malaysia, I was afraid of swimming and especially putting my face in to the water. But the teacher taught me so I am now able to swim. I am very happy. You should just try it and face it. You will be proud of yourself. It’s hard to do but just try it and you will feel brave and proud.

The Sea Monster

By Saki Hirata

Deep under the ocean,There lives a fierce, scary monster,Its body made of clean, blue ocean,

It steals people’s happy faces, their houses and their village,Nobody knows that there is such a scary creature,

Who would take their pleasant, delightful life,As the wave rises to the sky,

Everyone screams and shouts,Everyone losing their smile,

Sprinting as fast as they could being run after the wave,Drowning and shouting for help,

As the monster goes back to the ocean with a big stomach ……full The village turned ….. to death and sadness ………..

Using Quotes

“Do not be afraid, when you are afraid you are thinking about it all the time” said Kino’s dad.

I agree with Kino’s dad. If you are afraid, you can’t try new things and you will be alone with no friends. For example, when I was 8, I was afraid of death but after 1 month, I thought that nothing will happen so I stopped worrying and have a happy life. Nothing will happen when you worry so you don’t need to be afraid.

Kino’s father is a wise man. He explains that, “Parent’s will try to make their children go, but the children doesn’t want to leave and wants to stay with their parents. The mother will not want to leave the father, and the father will stay with the boat. But some will want to be sure of life.” I agree with Kino’s father. I wouldn’t want to leave my family. I would rather be with my family and die than being alone and live. It will be sad to live alone and it won’t be fun. If I’m with my family and I die with them, I would be happy even though I die. For example, wars. I wouldn’t want my brother and my dad to go to war and leave me and my mum. So I would want to be with my family.

Samir and YonatanQuotes

There- one moment everything was black, and the next moment Ludmilla loves my rabbit. She loves it so much; she wants it near her, on her bedside table. So maybe I won’t end up in Satan’s snake pit after all.

Samir thought that he was going to end up in the Satan’s snake pit but now he thinks he won’t end up in it after all because he made Ludmilla happy

I don’t remember how we fell asleep, but we wake up to hear Tzahi noisily chewing the candies his sister brought him.

Samir and the other kids are jealous and want the candies. Tzahi is doing this on purpose to get attention.

“Your trouble, Samir, is that you’re always living in this world. “ There is another world, Yonatan explains and you can divide your life

between this world and that other one. Nobody ever said that you have to pass your whole life only in this world, with everybody else.

Samir is confused and he doesn’t believe Yonatan.

Relationships Yonatan and Samir are great friends.

They are both at the Jewish hospital and became friends. They are both helping each other to get betterSamir is getting near Yonatan more than his family because Yonatan is nice to him and he always talks with him.

Samir and his dad aren’t really in a good shape. His dad doesn’t visit him at all and doesn’t care about him. His dad only cares about his little brother, Fadi. If Fadi was in the hospital, their dad would visit him.His dad has choices. His dad likes Fadi more than Samir. Normally parents take care of their kids fairly but his dad doesn’t.

Fadi and Samir are brothers but they are like best friends. They do things together and hang out together always. They both love each other.

(Jews and Muslims are fighting)

Razia and her dadShe was fighting with her dad because her dad used to drink alcohol and he once slapped her face by accident and Razia got mad. But they are fine now and are great family now.

The Devil’s ArithmeticMeet the Real Devil…

Have you ever thought that there is a time machine that will take you to the devil? Or a magic door that will take you to the past? Hannah hasn’t ever dreamed of such a thing. Hannah is going to the feast as always, but

Page 9: Reading on Issuu.com

this feast is special… not normal at all….. Don’t think that you are the most miserable person in the world because Hannah was endured more suffering than you…..

The main problem is that Hannah is taken to the past but Hannah doesn’t realize what is going on and where she is. Everyone calls her Chaya and she is confused. But when she is taken away from the Nazis, she realizes she is experiencing the past. How would you think if you were taken to another time? It would be very more frightening than you have ever thought. This novel will make you understand how lucky you are to be in this time with your parents and your friends. But Hannah has no friends and no parents with her. With the Nazis, she has to shave her hair and put on rags and the point is she has to work the whole day. You would never imagine yourself working when you are a youngster. Even if Hannah hates the Nazis, she has to obey them or else, she would be killed in the gas ovens.

Imagine how lucky you are right now in this world with your family and your friends. With love, friendship, you are having a great wonderful time. Hannah has to live with strangers and work beyond hard every day.

Do you think Hannah’s the only person that had these kinds of problems? If that’s what you think, you are wrong. There are a lot of other kids who had these kinds of problems during World War 2. Hannah is much luckier than Anne Frank. That’s because Hannah came out the door alive but Anne Frank was killed in the gas ovens. You couldn’t breathe so you would die painfully. And there is “Someone Named Eva” who she had to go to a little school where there are only yellow haired and blue eyed girls. All though, Eva came out alive. But, they are all miserable and you wouldn’t want to be like them.

This book really makes you know how life is really precious but sometimes, people get confused in some parts. All though, the novel is really good and I recommend it to people who is carm, serious and not to violent people. Always remember that it is great to be here with your loveable people in a calm world.
