Kindergarten Learning Activities April Dear Students, Parents, and Families: As our break extends, your teacher is providing this packet of resources to continue your child’s learning. We recommend that your kindergarten child spends one hour daily on engaged learning activities. In addition, be sure to spend time playing, exploring, and spending time with family. Please plan times for the following activities for your child. READING: Read for 20 minutes per day. Read to your child or have your child read to you. You may choose to do each for 10 minutes. Choose a reading response activity to do verbally or written. LIT ERACY: Mondays and Wednesdays will be literacy focused days. Watch and participate with the letter sounds lesson video. Use the nursery rhyme page that matches the lesson to search for blends, digraphs, and sight words. Practice word wall words in a variety of ways. Some ideas include: Use the games in this packet Find the words in stories, books, newspaper, etc. Rainbow write the words Use playdough to create the words Write the words outside with sidewalk chalk Build the words with Legos Have your child complete a writing activity. As our break extends, your teacher is providing this packet of resources to continue your child’s learning. We recommend that your kindergarten child spends one hour daily on engaged learning activities. In addition, be sure to spend time playing, exploring, and spending time with family.

Please plan times for the following activities for your child.

READING:● Read for 20 minutes per day.

READINGPlease read for 20 minutes each day. This can be you reading to your child or your child reading a book alone or to you. This can be done at one time or divided into two sessions of 10 minutes each. You may choose to read a book that you have with you or use an online book using a resource below. After reading, see the list below for possible questions to talk about with your child. This can simply be a discussion or you can have your child write/draw a response on a piece of paper.

PARENTS: Encourage your young writer to… (see checklist on included writing paper)● Sound words out. Kindergarteners should write the sounds they hear. Their spelling may not be perfect

and that’s ok!● Stretch words out and hear many sounds.● Spell sight words correctly.● Write neatly, with spaces between words.● Take their time and add details to their pictures. Pictures help to tell the story too!

Writing Prompts to get your writer started…● Take a spring walk. Draw and write about spring things you saw on your walk.● Draw and write about things you would plant in YOUR garden.● Taste test different plant parts. Draw and write about your favorite part of the plant that you tried and

why you liked it.● Draw and write about the adventures of a butterfly that just hatched from its chrysalis.● Draw a picture of your favorite animal. Label all the parts and write, “My favorite animal is ________”● Draw a picture, write, and mail a letter to your teacher. I bet you will get a letter back!● Draw and write about something you did during this time away from school.

Dice Number Games: Kindergarten

How to use:● Your child can roll one or two dice and then complete the number activity.● Your child can work independently or with a partner.

Modifications:● Have your child roll two dice to create a two-digit number. (For example: If your

child rolls a 1 and a 3, the number can be 13 or 31.)● Use manipulatives, number lines, tens frame, or other tools to support your child

in their learning.● Your child can use the number card that are included in this packet or a deck of

cards with numbers 1-9 if dice are not available.
