Volunteers Needed

People served per week in

your community = 403

As we continue to grow in number of people we serve, we need your help! Our Meals on Wheels team is in need of volunteer preppers, packers, and delivery drivers. These vital volunteers do so much more than deliver nutritious meals to older, homebound adults, they act as a wellness check and provide socialization. These volunteers are also often the only interaction Meals on Wheels recipients have

with another person all week.

Do you know of anyone who has the time and compassion to help those in our community who need us? Send them our way! You can reach out by contacting our Volunteer Coordinator, Jessica, at [email protected] or by calling 207-620-1684

Dear friend,

After weeks and months of Maine leading the way in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, our numbers

have begun to worsen. Dr. Shah, Director of the Maine CDC says the recent data concerns him, and I

share this concern. We’re not out of the woods yet, and as cold and flu season arrives, we must be smart

and vigilant to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe and healthy.

Just like you, I’m eager for things to get back to normal. But we won’t get there until we beat this pandemic.

For now, that means continuing with physical and social distancing guidelines, wearing face coverings

when we go out, and washing our hands with soap and water. Dr. Shah also strongly encourages Mainers

to get their flu shot this year. I just got mine today. If you have health insurance, the flu shot is likely free to

you at your doctor's office or a local pharmacy. If you don't have health insurance, you can get a free flu

shot at several locations including Convenient MD.

Mainers have always supported each other through tough times. We’ll get through this crisis together. As always, if you have any questions or need help with anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at [email protected] or 207-776-5404.

Take care,

Shenna Bellows

Saturday, September 26th, the Friends of the Vestry and Meeting House hosted a BBQ Curbside To Go Event in our parking lot from 11:30am to 4:30pm. The BBQ was prepared by Crostini's Catering. The Friends were planning on selling 75 dinners; that goal was met! Thank you to our community for your support. Pic-tured here is an indoor/outdoor portable grill and gift basket stuffed with grilling accessories that was raffled on Saturday. Congratulations to Howie Smithgall of Readfield for having the winning ticket.

The Building Committee has received 3 bid proposals to do the restoration of the clock. They will be reviewing bids the last week of September and hopefully awarding the contract. The Fund Raising Committee wants to report that the Tower Clock restoration campaign has raised about half of the $50,000 goal. The Board is pleased to announce long time member and supporter of the Readfield Union Meeting House, Jack Smart, has pledged to match dollar for dollar donations up to $50,000 to help with the clock and other restoration projects. Additional clock parts have been added to our Facebook page as well as the minutes and hour numerals that have not been sponsored. What wonderful gift opportunities for special occasions or holi-days; a sponsorship of a clock part in Readfield's historic Meeting House would be.

The October 31st “Pumpkins A Glow” will be different this year. The Meeting House is partnering with the town's Trunk-a-Treat that will be held at the fairgrounds where Covid-19 guide-lines will be observed. All local area families and groups are en-couraged to carve or to decorate pumpkins and bring them to the fairgrounds Saturday during the day. Battery lights will be put in-to the Jack-O-Lanterns and they will be placed about for all to en-joy. More information will be forthcoming closer to Halloween.

As mentioned in the last Messenger article, there was a tree planting of a sugar maple on the front lawn to replace the 100+ year old maple that was removed this summer. Pictured are Board members John Per-ry, Jim Tukey, Marius Peladeau, and Marianne Perry along with Robin Struck of D.R. Struck Landscaping Nursery and Garden Center who donated the tree.
