Hear the voices of the past and the present as actors tell of the people, places and events that shaped the 86-year history of one of the city’s oldest arts organizations. Five actors tell the story of the dedicated people who kept the Playhouse going for 86 years. It chronicles the transformation of a group of actors, playwrights, and theater lovers into a dramatic arts organization that continues on today. An original script was written for the event. Andrew Vonderschmitt (Playhouse Executive & Producing Artistic Director), Madison Mooney (Playhouse Business & Operations Manager), Sean Gray (Playhouse Technical Director & Production Manager), ‘phie Mura, and Lilliana Carrillo will perform the reading. Playhouse board member and New Works Festival chair, Anna Kate Mohler is script consultant and director. The script was researched and written by local historian, Dr. Kaye Briegel, and Roxanne Patmor, president of the HSLB and the Playhouse. The event will be held in the HSLB gallery at 4260 Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach. Tickets can be purchased using Mastercard or visa by calling the HSLB at 562.424.2220. Tickets will be held at the door. Comedy, Drama & the History of the Long Beach Playhouse is the Historical Society of Long Beach's latest exhibition. The show highlights various locations for Playhouse productions, set design models, costumes, program covers, 45 photographs, and more. The exhibition is free and open to the public. The show can be seen at the Historical Society of Long Beach, 4260 Atlantic Avenue in Bixby Knolls. Gallery hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 1-5 pm, Thursday 1-7 pm, and Saturday 11-5 pm. It show runs through Friday, July 3, 2015. The exhibition is supported in part by the Arts Council for Long Beach and the City of Long Beach.
