Oh, No!Karan K. Katira
Subhash was living with his family inKolhapur village. They were happy on allaccounts. They possessed seven acres ofland with a farm full of mango trees.Subhash’s father was owner of that landbut due to old age and accompanyingdiseases he had died last month. Beforehis death, he had given his son theresponsibility of taking care of the farmand the mango trees which were plantedon his son’s birthday by him. But Subhashwas careless and greedy.
Once a villager came to him and said,“I will give you the money you want, just
give me two rows of your mango treesas I am in dire need of mango woods."The greedy Subhash thought these treeswere of no use as they didn’t bear fruits. But he did not care about the fact thatthey were too young to bear fruits. Heagreed to sell two rows of trees.
In this way, one by one all trees werecut and only the land used to growseasonal vegetables was left. One day anexecutive of a chemical industry methim and asked him to sell them thewhole seven acres of remaining land asthey wanted to set up a new plant there.
Akshat Virender Malviya
Readers’ Club Bulletin November 2012/9
That land being not so profitable for him,he once thought to sell it but sevenacres was a huge chunk of land. So afterthinking a lot, he decided not to sell theland but give it on rent to the company.
The industry started its work butpollution emanating from the factoryadversely affected the villagers. Thewaste produced were dumped into waterand poisonous gases released into theair. But Subhash was very happy as hekept on earning money through thoseland. He did not care a bit about theenvironment. He was so greedy that hedid not bother to keep his father’s adviceand words about taking care of mangotrees and the farm.
One day Subhash had a horribledream. He dreamt that the chemicalindustry which was established onSubhash’s land had emanated so muchpollution that all the persons of villagegot infected and suffered from severediseases and many people died. Policecame to arrest the head of industry. However he told them that the landdidn’t belong to them but to a villagernamed Subhash.
The police then arrested Subhash andseized everything from him as he wasresponsible for many deaths. Allvillagers laughed at him for his deed. While he was taken to the jail, all of asudden the dream broke and Subhash wasawake shouting, “oh, no!”

Once there took a fierce fight betweenthe sun and the moon. The point inquestion was which among the two wasmore famous.
A coin was tossed. Unluckilyfor both of them, it was neithertail nor head. The coin stood inthe middle. Now they thought asto what to do next. After severalrounds of discussions, it wasdecided that both would shine forhalf part of each day only, consisting of 12 hours. The sunwhich happened to be lazy said
Sun and MoonUzma Khalid Parmar
that it would shine when it is morningtime. The Moon agreed to shine in night.
They became friends thereafter.

There was a boy named Gopi who lived
in Rampur. He was orphan. He used to
work at a general store for one rupee a
day.
Once he saved one rupee by not eating
any thing. The next day he was hungry so
he walked into the market where he met
his friend Ranji who had a beautiful flute.
Gopi liked
the flute so
he asked
Ranji if he
c o u l d
exchange the
flute with
that coin.
Ranji
saw the coin
and figured out that it was an old queen
Victorian silver coin. He took it to the
jeweler. The jeweler told him that he could
give only ten rupees for it. Ranji became
happy, took the money and went away.
On the other hand, Gopi went to the
river which flowed nearby. There
his friends were fishing. Gopi
couldn’t catch the fish so he stood up
GopiAbhishek A. Lad
and tried to go away. But his leg slipped
and he fell into the river. He was soaking
wet so all his friends began to laugh at
him. He started walking towards the
market.
Along the road, as Gopi walked he
also played the flute beautifully. Gopi
passed walking
the jeweler’s
shop. The
j e w e l e r ’ s
daughter was
sick. Nothing
e n t e r t a i n e d
her. She heard
Gopi playing
the flute and
got up as if the melodious sound had
given her a new lease of life. The jeweler
called Gopi and told him to give his
flute. The jeweler was ready to pay any
amount for the flute.
Gopi only asked for one silver coin.
The jeweler had a daughter, but no son.
He became so impressed by his honesty
that he adopted him as son.

Golden FeatherVidya Patel
There was a village. A poor farmer Ramu
uncle lived in it. He was a kind hearted
person. One day Ramu uncle was going
to plough his field. At
once he heard
someone crying. He
tried to find out the
person who was
weeping and in search
of him he moved into
the forest. There he
found a golden
peacock. His name
was Chandan. He had
a thorn stuck in his
feet. Ramu took the
thorn out from his feet.
A happy Chandan gave him one of his
golden feathers and said, “ I am giving
you a feather. You can multiply any thing
using this. You just need to keep it with
the thing you want to multiply.”
Thanking Chandan, Ramu uncle took
the feathers and rushed to the king. Ramu
uncle told everything to the king and gave
him the feather. The king was also a kind
person. He asked Ramu to return to his
village.
After Ramu departed, the king kept
the feather in his godown. The next day
he found that the foodgrains had
multiplied in quantity. The king
summoned Ramu and requested him to
bring the peacock to the palace. Ramu
uncle once again went to the peacock.
The peacock became very happy.
The king got a beautiful orchid made
in his palace for the peacock. The orchid
was named Chandan.
Since his entry into the palace, the
atmosphere in the kingdom changed for
the better. The king also rewarded Ramu
uncle with a lot of gold coins.
