Reach High with Fox 34

High PointHappeningsHigh Point Village began the summer with a grant from the Community Foundation of West Texas. This grant allowed Reach High to explore the community almost every day of the summer! Villagers went out to eat, bowling, swimming, and to the movies.

One afternoon this summer we hosted “2B Leaders” from Second Baptist Church. They learned about people with special needs and how we are all not very different!

We hosted 57 Villagers in two different summer camps. Turn the page to read more.

Reach High has grown so rapidly in the past year that we needed another van. We were able to purchase a new 15-passenger Ford van with a grant from the Garrison Family Foundation!

On August 11th we welcomed the community into our new Enrichment Center. Over 200 people toured our building and celebrated the beginning of this new chapter.

Villager families hosted a staff appreciation luncheon. We are so blessed to serve these Villagers and their families.

The new Italian restaurant Campisi’s invited Reach High to their soft opening. It was delicious!

On September 12th, Afternoon Enrichment Classes began for the Fall. We are offering14 unique classes this semester.

This summer we had record-breaking attendance numbers at both of our Summer Camps with 57 Villagers!

Villagers had surprise guests all week long! The Shallowater Fire Department let Villagers climb on the truck and see all the tools they would need when responding to a fire. Villagers played games and danced with Raider Red and The Masked Rider. Campers at the Elementary Camp got to pet Mini Ponies on Western Day. The Science Spectrum started off the first day of camp by telling Villagers all about outer space!

Each day was jam-packed with fun, educational games, and activities. We cannot wait for next year’s summer camp!

Megan Bomgaars is a young woman with big dreams, great talent and re-fuses to be limited by those around her! She has taken a lifetime of creative experiences and turned them into a full-time passion. Whether it is paint-ing, journaling, singing or working with color, she has done it all with her own unmistakable style! As a surface design artist, she creates original, one-of-a-kind textiles and fabrics for her company MEGOLOGY. She is a master at incorporating unusual techniques such as dyeing with ice, ma-nipulating fiber reactive dyes and the use of colorants. Megan is an ardent observer of her surroundings and is always ready for the unexpected color or element to catch her eye and influence her next project.

Megan wrote about her life experiences and her beliefs about being fully included in her community while overcoming limitations. Working with her teachers at school she com-posed a popular video called “Don’t Limit Me”. Megan truly lives by her motto and she is an inspiration to her wide circle of friends and family.

In 2015 while representing her line MEGOLOGY she was discovered by producers of the A&E Docu -series BORN THIS WAY. She was invited to be one of the original cast members. The Emmy Winning Show follows the lives of 7 individuals living with Down syndrome and is in its second season.

Megan BomgaarsStorybook Gala: Chapter 2 Keynote Speaker

Volunteer Spotlight: Bill Caldwell“Mr. Bill”, as he is known to the Villagers, has been volunteering at High Point for over four years. When asked why he volunteers he says, “Because Becky told me to.” But the reality is he loves the Villagers. Bill has co-authored a chapter in the High Point Book Destined to Soar, helped with Cotillion, volunteered in cooking class for four years, served on the Building Committee, and is often seen fixing things around the building. His grandson, Ben, comes to volunteer with him. Bill wants Ben to know the joy of volunteering and help-ing individuals with special needs. He is a re-tired educational diagnostician and counselor.
