TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK This week marks the official recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week. It is an appropriate time to take a moment to thank those who spend their time nurturing and developing our children on a daily basis. Serving as a teacher is much more that creating lesson plans and grading papers. It includes developing character, teaching life lessons, tying shoes, sharing your snack, resolving conflicts and negotiating difficult situations. Teachers help to shape our future leaders; they will never know the extent of their influence. Each day, teachers listen, guide and fix every problem from a lost stuffed animal to a tragic event in a family. When the workday is over, the same teachers spend several more hours forming plans for instruction, contacting parents, giving feedback to students and worrying about each individual. Teachers don’t choose their profession to prosper. There is no monetary gain for spending those extra moments, hours or days in an effort to make a real difference. And yet, seldom do teachers receive consistent praise or thanks for all that they do. Instead, they find ways to feel fulfilled from the progress they see from their students. I am grateful to work amongst so many amazing, dedicated educators. Sigsbee teachers are models of integrity, compassion and professionalism. They’ve created a culture of mutual respect where they challenge and support one another and their students in a positive climate. They are lifelong learners who continue to study their craft in order to bring out the best in each student. They are constantly looking to innovate, upgrade and infuse their curriculum in new ways so that their students will be engaged and excited to learn. Please take a moment this week to recognize your child’s teachers. A few positive. words makes a world of difference.
