Dilemmas

*****DILEMMAS***** No matter what project you are involved with, there will always be that one problem that appears to not have any solutions. What to do? With airplane modeling, discontinued models can sometimes present a problem if parts are not available. What to do? Sometimes, you need to repair, modify, or improve something with a model & there are no parts available that will solve the issue. What to do? Generally, other club members can help you, or perhaps know someone that can facilitate a solution. Having a career in the manufacturing arena has allowed me to acquire machining, welding, & fabricating equipment that allows me to repair, recreate, modify, & be able to salvage something considered a loss or improve a condition to a model that will render it much better that the original design. Some of my projects have been interesting, challenging, informative, & at times, amusing. Some easy projects were making non-existent muffler extensions for several different nitro engines. These needed to be made to specific dimensions as specified by the owners so the mufflers would fit a particular model, usually for clearance of the muffler to the fuselage.

A huge “Thank You “ goes out to Denny Pollock for suppling the following article for everyone to enjoy. Remember, if you have something you would like to share with all members, Dave Brodak accepts articles and photos for inclusion in the monthly newsletter.

The first one (pic 1 & 2) was just a simple 3/8" thick aluminum extension milled & drilled to fit the muffler....an easy one.

The 2nd one was interesting as this pilot needed several thicknesses of extensions since the same motors would be used on several different models (Pics 3-9). As you can see, most "dilemmas" can be rectified. Denny Pollock
