They continue education post secondary …

Graduating from 2 or 4 year College Programs!

They continue with Health Science Professions…..

Many students continue education through Military…!

The Fantastic part is….

They keep in touch and always come back!

Alumni return to Mentor, Inspire, and participate with events such as :

Open House Recruiting

Pin Ceremony

Alumni inspire students through our Facebook page with encouragement, advice, and support!

The Amazing part is…up until recently this was done with one teacher..!

The students are driven and self directing

This is key….I would not be able to show these results without their inner desire to succeed!

Let’s Share…

Purpose of activity…

Intro into Project Based Learning

Familiarize with your class/group

Awareness of expectations

Meeting individual needs

This activity can be modified for use with goal setting, class directed expectations, and working together as a team.

The thought of doing Projects in the Nurse Aide Program seemed overwhelming, but I knew I had to try something….

These students were changing fast and I did not want to lose their interest…

One would think the skills for a career course would be enough…..but not enough to make connections academically and create SUCCESSFUL Leaders/ Scholars!

I began small….with a group of 9th graders as an effort to increase enrollment. Currently, my school district does not offer a 9-12 program…..

At least…not yet..

I submitted my proposal

What we did have was a 9th grade HUB class. The students

were scheduled 10 weeks at a time with 4 different teachers and would be rotated. This was designed to be a recruiting effort as we moved from our main campus to another campus and wanted to draw the health science students along with us.

Topics were:

Disaster preparedness

Nutrition

Health Awareness/ Consumer

Human Body

I was assigned to teach Human Body….I teach fast, but the whole body in 10 weeks…..????

And then it came to me…

TRUE COLOR PERSONALITY TEST

And so I started with what I thought was the best thing….I gave a test!

The first project based learning was completed!

But the challenge continued…how to bring into the 11th and 12th grade classrooms and to clinical…

11th grade Project Based Learning was with Infection Control

Tracking an illness, researching CDC, working together to investigate classrooms and conduct interviews.

12 th grade Nurse Aide program…

Incorporate the concept into classroom lab through assignments, rotating team leader, and use of Moodle

This lead way to using the practice in clinical

What about Integrated Academics?

ELA Math

Science History

HOW DOES THIS FIT INTO DANIELSON PLAN?

TIME TO GET CREATIVE!

TIME TO SPARK!

Infusing Creativity into your lessons can be easy and start small
