Volleyball Fans... Welcome to another season of Yellowjacket volleyball at Rochester Community and Technical College! On behalf of the team, coaches, students, faculty, and staff, thank you for your support.

I also welcome you to the UCR Regional Sports Center, home of the Yellowjacket volleyball, basketball and wrestling teams, and a wide variety of athletic competitions and community activities. This beautiful facility is only possible because of the collaborative efforts of RCTC and the City of Rochester. RCTC has a strong history of providing rich, whole-person college experiences typically found at four-year universities, and on our campus students can choose from a variety of student life programs to make connections with other students, develop leadership and life skills, and of course, be part of the most extensive varsity sports program of any public two-year college in the state. So while on campus, feel free to tour the facilities, study in our library, view our artwork, or just walk the grounds. Athletic Director—Jean Musgjerd graduated from Bemidji State University, earning both her BS degree in Physical Education (1985) and her MS degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Sports Administration (1991), along with additional graduate work in health (2007).

For the past twenty-three years Jean has been employed at Rochester Community and Technical College serving as head volleyball coach from 1990-2007, head softball coach from 1994 – 2011, HPER Instructor from 1990 to the present, and athletic director from 2001 to the present. While at RCTC she led two volleyball teams to the NJCAA National Volleyball Tournament and four softball teams to the NJCAA National Softball Tournament. Jean has earned several honors while coaching at RCTC: two-time NJCAA Region XIII Volleyball Coach of the Year, four-time NJCAA Region XIII Softball Coach of the Year, and 2006 NFCA Jr. College Division III Coach of the Year. She also had the honor of coaching 12 NJCAA All Americans and one NJCAA Academic All American.

Since 2004, Jean has served as the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women’s Region XIII Director and serves on many national/regional/state committees under this title. In 2007, she was named to the softball coaching staff of the NJCAA Elite Softball Team that competed in the World University Game in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2009, Jean received the NJCAA Loyalty Award for her work within the NJCAA at the national and regional levels. Most recently she has been named to the National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Executive Committee.

While her work keeps her plenty busy, she does find time for a few hobbies such as camping, backpacking, BWCA Trips, and fishing. Since 1997, she also has trained dogs to search for lost and missing people for the Southern MN Canine Search and Rescue Association. Currently Jean has two German Shepherds that are certified to do such work.

2013 Rochester Yellowjacket Volleyball Staff

As Athletic Director at Rochester Community and Technical College, I want to welcome you on behalf of the faculty, staff, and student athletes at RCTC. We are proud of the rich traditions our student-athletes have built over the years both in the classroom and in competition. Our students-athletes are expected to live by the premise: “You are a student first and an athlete second.” With this in mind, RCTC celebrates with the MCAC All Academic Award Winners each year as well as the students earning Dean’s List recognition each semester.

On the court from 1991-2011, the overall volleyball record is 400 wins and 360 losses. In addition, we placed 5 times at the conference level, 3 times at the state level, once being champions, 4 times at the region level, twice as champions, and twice at nationals. It is in part due to the support of fans like you, that our athletic program at RCTC is so successful. On the court RCTC has a rich tradition with over 400 wins from 1991-2011. During this time been crowned MCAC Conference Champs twice, MCAC Conference Runner ups Twice, Region XIII Champions twice along with two trips to the NJCAA National Tournament placing as high as 4th in 2001. This strong tradition is due in part to the support of fans like you.

I would like to encourage you to join us for all of our athletic activities and continue supporting our student-athletes. Amber Zitzow – Head Coach for the Women’s Volleyball Team is in her second-year as head coach and has diverse coaching experience at the college and high school levels at St. Charles, Rochester Mayo, and Wabasha-Kellogg. She is very involved with the Rochester Youth Volleyball Association (RYVA) as a Board Member, Summer Camp Director, and Volley Tot and Mini Volleyball Director. Amber has led many Junior Olympic volleyball teams to national and AAU tournaments. She currently coaches the Southern Minnesota Volleyball (SMV) 18 Black team.

“I look forward to the challenges of motivating athletes to grow and reach their full potentials while maintaining their classroom performance,” Zitzow said. “I am optimistic that Rochester Community and Technical College Volleyball will remain competitive and continue to offer a winning program!”

Zitzow coached the Yellowjackets to a No. 8 national ranking with a 17-9 record during the 2012 season along with coaching an Honorable-Mention All-American.

Tori Ristau is in her second year as the assistant coach for the Rochester Community and Technical College volleyball team. A Preston, Minnesota, native, Ristau brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Yellowjacket bench. She has previous experience coaching the Fillmore Central and Kenyon-Wanamingo junior olympic volleyball teams. Currently, she also coaches with Southern Minnesota Volleyball and is very involved with the Rochester Youth Volleyball Association. As an RYVA board member, Tori also helps with summer camps and the VolleyTot and Miniball programs.

“Not only do I enjoy teaching about the skills and strategies of volleyball, but I enjoy being a mentor for the young ladies as they begin or continue on their collegiate journey. It is great to be a part of the winning legacy of Yellowjacket volleyball and I look forward to helping our athletes with the goals and obstacles of being a collegiate athlete.”

Ristau was previously a Yellowjacket volleyball player, where she helped lead RCTC to a 48-12 record over her two-year career. Last year, she assisted Coach Zitzow to a No. 8 national ranking and a 17-9 record.

She was a two-time MVP, All-Conference Honorable Mention, and team captain. She was All-Academic and Dean's List at RCTC last year. Her family includes Ken, Melissa, and Molly. Her major at RCTC is Sonography. Her favorite movie is Tommy Boy or The Heat. Her favorite sports team is Minnesota Vikings. Her favorite food is everything. She came to RCTC because it was close to home and to play volleyball, while getting her prerequisites completed.

#2 Lindsay Ayers S/L SOLindsay is from Waterville, MN, where she played everything for Watertown-Elysian-Morristown High School. She was a three-time All-Conference, three-time MVP, two-time Best Offensive Player, two-time All-Area, and was awarded the 1000 set assist award, as well as made 500 career kills. Her family includes her parents and one brother. Her major at RCTC is Nursing. Her favorite movie is Stick It. Her favorite sports team is Penn State. Her favorite food is steak. She came to RCTC to go to college and play volleyball.

#3 Chanda Riedemann MH SOChanda is from LeRoy, MN, where she played middle, outside, setter, right side for LeRoy-Ostrander High School. She was MVP, Maxs Prep Player of the Week, two-time captain, All-Conference First Team, and Daily Herald First Team. Her family includes her parents and one sibling. Her major at RCTC is Sports Management. Her favorite movie is The Conjuring. Her favorite sports team is RCTC Yellowjackets. Her favorite food is dill pickles. She came to RCTC for the opportunity to play volleyball and basketball.

#4 Natalie Reinardy S/DS FRNatalie is from Cannon Falls, MN, where she played setter/right side for Cannon Falls High School. She was 2010 All-Area First Team Select Player, 2010 All-Conference Honorable Mention, 2010 JO “Best All-Around Player’ Award, 2011 All-Area Second Team Select Player, 2011 All-Conference Award, and received the 1000 career assists award in 2011. Her family includes her parents and one sibling. Her major at RCTC is Criminal Justice. Her favorite movie is Safe Haven. Her favorite sports team is Minnesota Lynx. Her favorite food is pasta. She came to RCTC to recover from an injury closer to home.

#5 Jenica Gerber OH SOJenica is from Rochester, MN, where she played left side for Century High School. She was on the Dean’s List at RCTC last year. Her family includes her parents and three brothers. Her major at RCTC is Nursing. Her favorite movie is She’s the Man. Her favorite sports team is Minnesota Twins. Her favorite food is pasta. She came to RCTC because she didn’t know what she wanted to study, but is completing her general education credits.

#6 Amber Dunagan S/DS FRAmber is from Rochester, MN, where she played setter/right side for John Marshall High School. She was a two-time All-Conference, Honorable Mention, and made 1,000 set assists. Her family includes her parents and siblings. Her major at RCTC is Psychology. Her favorite movie is White Oleander. Her favorite food is mac & cheese. She came to RCTC wanting to stay at home, save money, and wants to stay at her job.

#7 Brooke Wubbena DS FRBrooke is from Fairmont, MN, where she played libero for Fairmont Senior High School. She was a varsity starter for three years and team captain her senior year. Her family includes parents, sister and brother, their spouses, and nieces and nephews. Her major at RCTC is Human Services. Her favorite movie is Shrek. Her favorite sports team is Iowa Hawkeyes. Her favorite food is pineapple. She came to RCTC because she wanted to play volleyball and they have a good atmosphere.

#9 Danielle Adams MH/RH FRDanielle is from Byron, MN, where she played middle for Byron High School. She was 2013 Byron Miss Fit runner-up, 2010-2013 most blocks, 2013 most digs, and 2013 All-Conference Honorable Mention. Her family includes her parents and one sister. Her major at RCTC is Health Sciences Broad Field, and UMR/Mayo School of Health Sciences for Radiology. Her favorite movie is Disney. Her favorite food is steak. She came to RCTC for the opportunity to play volleyball and basketball.

She was a four-year letter winner, three-year starter, Hiawatha Valley League All-Conference in 2012, team captain in 2012, and All-Herald Volleyball Team, First Team. Her family includes her parents and one brother. Her major at RCTC is Liberal Arts and Sciences. Her favorite movie is The Croods. Her favorite sports team is Minnesota Wild. Her favorite food is pickles. She came to RCTC because it was close to home and her major was undecided.

She came to RCTC because her cousin recommended it.

#12 Emily Kingland MH FREmily is from Lake Mills, IA, where she played middle hitter for Lakes Mills Community High School. She lettered in varsity, played in the Iowa State Tournament three times, and were NIC conference champs four times. Her family includes her parents and one sister. Her major at RCTC is Liberal Arts and Sciences. Her favorite movie is Talladega Nights. Her favorite sports team is Iowa State Cyclones. Her favorite food is pancakes. She came to RCTC to play volleyball and live a safe distance from home.

She was two-time All-Conference, KEYC Player of the Week, KNVJ Player of the Week, Tri-State All-Star Team, 1,000th kill, 500 set assists, and Team MVP. She came to RCTC to attend their Nursing program.
