What is eBAM?

What is eBAM?

• The purpose of eBAM is to standardise and automate the process of account opening, account maintenance, account closing and signatory management, by using global standard, bank-independent ISO 20022 XML messages

• eBAM enables, for the first time, non-financial messages to be transferred through a secure communications channel such as SWIFT.

• eBAM ideally links the back office systems of banks and corporates in order to enable Straight Through Processing of BAM activities, where using digital signatures for authorization allows for a complete digital process.

What will eBAM bring us?

• Improved Straight Through Processing and traceability

• Cost reduction (less manual, no paper archiving, no mailing)

• Reduced total elapsed time

• Better compliance with audit requirements

• Reduced risk of human errors

• Improved process follow-up and control of bank accounts

• Standardized communication process for all banks

Challenges and Limitations in the eBAM development

All Banks need to be EBAM ready

Messages need to be translated to bank processes

Back end integration

Adding and maintaining Products and Services are not

part of the Standard messages because they are

bank specific

Digital signing is a prerequisite for EBAM

Banks are working with different levels of

centralisation

Clients need to be EBAM ready

Checks performed by the Bank that over time will be automated include:

o Person who signed the document is a legal representative

o Bank have a valid copy of the ID document (normally passport copy which has not expired)

o That the signature on the passport copy matches the signature on the letter

The new process will greatly improve and automate this end-to-end process.
