Category Specific Guidelines for preparation of nominations

1. RBS ‘Earth Hero’ Award – Individual (Felicitation)

No nominations will be accepted as this will be the Jury’s choice.

This award recognizes extraordinary achievements of an individual who has worked a life time in conservation of wildlife, natural resource management, and environment and has influenced policy.

2. RBS ‘Earth Guardian’ Award – Institution

This award recognizes an institution (NGO/Corporate/Government/Village or Forest Council or Biodiversity Management Committee/Forest Protection Committee/Research/Educational/Media agency) that has made exceptional contributions in the field of conservation of wildlife, human life and property in wild habitats, natural resource management, environment, wildlife research and awareness building. Nominations will require the following details:

i. Number of years in activity (conservation of wildlife, natural resource management, environment protection)

ii. Scope of work/Area of expertise or specialization

iii. Outreach (Activity covered/ Area/areas where activity is undertaken, presence in state/states)

iv. Impact (outcomes of activity undertaken, impact on wildlife, habitats people, sustainability attributes of the activityundertaken)

v. Innovative initiatives implemented or activities undertaken (through advocacy, environment protection measures,resettlements, conflict resolutions). What makes the model innovative?

vi. Has it impacted or influenced policy?

vii. Training & Awareness (training of personnel on conservation issues, natural resource management, field work, youthprograms, initiatives undertaken to spread awareness on issues) What is the focus of the training and awareness sessions?How does it complement the key activities undertaken by the organization?

viii. Network (association with newspapers/television channels, representation in national and international bodies, role withconservation groups/societies, research agencies)

NOTE: Please limit the above details to a total of 1000 words.

3. RBS ‘Save The Species’ Award – 2 Awards for Individuals

This award recognizes an individual who has been involved, directly or indirectly, in protecting any species as listed in the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Priority will be given to work on the critically endangered species identified by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change under its ‘Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitats - http://www.wiienvis.nic.in/Database/SRP_8555.aspx and has also contributed to education, awareness programs, capacity building and resolving man-animal conflict.

2 Individuals will be awarded – 1 from Government Organizations and 1 from Non-Government Organizations

i. Number of years in activity ( conservation of wildlife, natural resource management, environment protection)

ii. Outreach (Activity covered/ Area/areas where activity is undertaken, presence in state/states)

iii. Innovative initiatives implemented or activities undertaken (through advocacy, environment protection measures,resettlements, conflict resolutions) What makes this model innovative?

iv. Rapport with Community (confidence building measures undertaken)

v. Difficulties or challenges faced in addressing the problem or while undertaking the activity

vi. Impact (outcomes of activity undertaken, impact on wildlife, fauna, people, sustainability attributes of the activity undertaken)



vii. Has it impacted or influenced policy?

viii. Training & Awareness (training of personnel on conservation issues, natural resource management, field work, youthprograms, initiatives undertaken to spread awareness on issues) What is the focus of training and awareness sessions?How does it complement the key activities undertaken by the organization?

ix. Network (Association with newspapers/television channels, representation in national and international bodies, role withconservation groups/societies)


4. RBS ‘Inspire’ Award – Individual and Institutional

This award recognizes an individual ( journalist/filmmaker/artist) or institution who has influenced thought or inspired action on conservation of wildlife, natural resource management and environmental protection through his/her creative expression


ii. Theme (Focus on wildlife/conservation/natural resource management)

iii. Approach (knowledge/facts/data OR critical/investigative)

iv. Medium (newspaper/television/movie/documentary/social media/ fine arts/performing arts)

v. Difficulty or challenges faced in undertaking the activity

vi. Campaign and sustained OR sporadic reporting

vii. Outreach (size of readership/viewership; any particular region of focus)

viii. Impact (awareness, activated government or courts or PILs)

ix. Innovative Initiatives (enforcement, knowledge sharing platforms, creation of pressure groups/lobby)

x. Network (Association with newspapers/television channels, representation in national and international bodies, role withconservation groups/societies)

xi. Editorial/ownership support


5. RBS ‘Green Warrior’ Award – 2 Awards for Individuals

The award recognizes exemplary work to protect habitats that host our nation’s important species as listed in the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 OR have demonstrated work that supports habitat protection, human lives and property in wild habitats.

2 Individuals will be awarded 1 from Government Organizations and 1 from Non - Government Organizations
