RAVE photometry

So far mainly IR: DENIS and 2MASS Already the 1st scan of skymapper will

provide multiband photometry in the optical for all RAVE stars

Can we prepare this with SDSS photometry in the survey overlap regions?

Status of AAO

AAO contract (UK/Australia) ends on 30 June 2010 – currently the formal end of RAVE MoU

Positive funding decision for AAO by Australian Government 2010-2020

Revised MoU required. First draft to be discussed in September Terms similar to existing MoU More specific on performance goals

RAVE intent: continue operation toward 1M spectra (mid 2012?)

Status of UKST hardware

6 weeks loss of operation in 2007 owing to asbestos removal

Poor availability of fibres for 2005-2008 (average ~100 fibres), in particular in 2008

Fibre quality deteriorating FP2 now beyond repair Successful FP3 commissioning in Mar 09 FP1 refurbished to 100 fibres FP2 under remodelling, new fibre bundle FP1 remodelling after FP2 rework is completed 3 fully equipped FP by 2010

RAVE finances Currently RAVE operation is secured to

mid 2010 We would need about 600k€ to continue until

mid 2012 Model: 50% from collab, 50% new partners

Discussion with potential new partners Basic model: access for 1 faculty + 1 postdoc

+ grad students = entrance fee of 100k€ Martin Asplund Tim Beers ANU
