I would like to welcome you to the Ratcliff Ranch Fall Bull and

Customer Appreciation Sale. We truly appreciate your time and

interest in our program and genetics. As you scan through the catalog,

you’ll notice we have scaled back the number of bulls o� ered in the

sale. However, we feel the scope of the bulls chosen off er an excellent

selection of bulls to � t everyone’s program. We have some truly

outstanding cow making bulls, sleep at night heifer bulls, and a few

more high-growth Angus bulls then we have had in the past. � e

Simmental o� ering is as deep with quality as any we have o� ered to

date. It seems with the extreme weather pattern we have been in lately,

and the e� ect it has had on range land and crop production it is a

never ending challenge in the beef industry. Because of those factors,

the females off ered have all been developed in a real world, low-input

setting. � ey are ready to go out and perform with very productive lives

in front of them. � e customer cattle have been developed in the same

manner. A very no thrills survive if you can type environment.

With the continued shrinkage of U.S. cowherds, females with the

genetics to perform with low-input costs and produce o� spring with

growth potential, while maintaining those same easy-keeping qualities

will be in high demand as U.S. beef producers build back their herds

for the foreseen future. � ese females will sure � t the bill! Just like

you, Ratcliff Ranches strives to produce quality cattle in a cost-eff ective

manner. As you will hear at the sale and read about on our website, we have

some new changes here at Ratcliff Ranch, with the largest being the

addition of a growyard. We are excited about this opportunity to

provide larger commercial female numbers to our customers and for the

various options it holds for our operation. With anything new, it takes a

lot of fi nancial and physical investment. Th is has been a challenge, but

after selling our fi rst cattle out of the growyard, we know it has been a

positive investment. It has also allowed us to produce the real life type

cattle we feel will be of value to our customers and to the beef industry

in general.

I would like to think the Ranch crew for all their hard work in taking

care of the cattle. It would be impossible to do what we do here at

Ratcli� Ranch without their dedication to their jobs. If I or any of the

SALE TERMS & CONDITIONS Terms: CASH. All cattle are to be paid for during or immediately after the sale and will not be released until after settlement has been made. Bulls will not be transferred until paid for in full.


HERD HEALTH All cattle have been on the Pfizer Animal Health vaccination program and will have interstate health papers required for shipping into other sections of the United States. All Animals have received Bovi-Shield Gold FP5VL5HB, Spirovac L5 (spring breds), a shot of MultiMin and Dectomax Pour-On and have been tested for PI BVD. BULL DEVELOPMENT - NutritionBulls are developed on a 160 acre grass trap. They are fed 3% of their body weight with the total ration formulated by Great Plains Livestock Consultants consisting of ground grass hay, wet corn gluten, soyhull pellets and mineral. They are offered free choice grass hay.

TRUCKING We are offering free delivery of bulls within a 250-mile radius of the ranch, or pick up your bull sale day and receive a $50 discount. Trucks will be available for hire sale day. Let us know if you need assistance with your trucking arrangements.

REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES All bulls will be transferred to the buyer at the seller’s expense. Each buyer must be sure to give the clerk the proper name and address for making transfers. Registered females, as noted, will sell with optional registration papers ($50/registration). The commercial females sell without registration certificates.

GUARANTEE AND INSURANCE All bulls sell fully guaranteed under Terms and Conditions of the American Angus Association or the American Simmental Association. All bulls sell with a 90-day breeding guarantee. Insurance for your purchases will be available sale day at the clerk’s desk.

ANGUS EPDS & $VALUES: AMERICAN ANGUS ASSOCIATION ® SELECTION TOOLS Expected Progeny Difference (EPD) , is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into the American Angus Association National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an “I”, and may or may not include the animal’s own performance record for a particular trait, depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary grouping, or data edits needed for NCE. Calving Ease Direct (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be

born when he is bred to first-calf heifers. Birth Weight EPD (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Weaning Weight EPD (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Yearling Weight EPD (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Carcass EPDs are calculated from an integrated analysis of the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR®) carcass and ultrasound phenotypic databases. The evaluation is enhanced to include carcass performance data and to simultaneously incorporate ultrasound performance data on bulls, heifers and steers. Ultrasound traits are analyzed as indicator traits for carcass merit. The outcome of this analysis is a single set of EPDs, simple to interpret in carcass units, relevant to commercial producers and the industry. The genetic evaluation produces EPDs for carcass weight, marbling score, ribeye area and fat thickness. Marbling EPD (Marb), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Ribeye Area EPD (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

EPD’s adjust weekly at the American Angus Association. EPD’s were current as of 10/5/12.

DISCLOSURE OF TESTS RESULTS FOR KNOWN GENETIC DEFECTS AND FACTORS The seller shall have an affirmative duty to notify the buyer of any test results for genetic defects or genetic factors not otherwise reflected on an animal’s pedigree.
