    2 Corinthians 6: 2

(For he said, 'I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvationhave I succoured you: behold, now isthe accepted time; behold, now isthe dayof salvation!

I!TROD"CTIO!#If you look in your Bible Concordance for the word rapture you will not find it. The

closest you will come to it is the phrase caught up. You will not find that word because it's arelatiely new addition to the Christian ocabulary.

This book may be a disappointment to some. It does not tickle the ears. !on't worry"

though" I'm sure there are still plenty of #fluff# pieces out there to feed the #milk# and proide

ery little #meat# for those who haen't cut their teeth yet. This book is a big fat $uicy porter

house steak. I don't water down the truth.

%hen discussing the sub$ect of The &apture" I hae deliberately focused primarily onthe scriptures that are ignored or neglected by most modern teachers on the sub$ect of the

rapture and the econd Coming because it is the scriptures which hae been neglected that

usually hold the key to understanding.

(or e)ample" I begin speaking of the direct eents of our *ord coming from +atthew ,-rather than going to +atthew , as is usually the case in a book on this sub$ect. It will be a

hard read for many" many people because because I don't pull any punches. I lay the

scriptural truth out mercilessly because it is time for us to put our toys away and grow up.

The time draws nearer and nearer. /ne thing you will notice as you read this book is that Irepeat some of the same scriptures in different chapters.

    %hy0

Because some things are simply so important they bear repeating.

    Deuteronomy 18: 20-22

"20 But the prophet, who shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the nameo other !ods, even that prophet shall die

Caught up in rapture, that sweet divine joy and the peace that passes all understandingfrom which simply comes the knowing or our Lord, our Messiah, our Christ, our Savior and, inthis knowing, we come to intimately know his heavenly Father as well. here can !e nogreater "rapture"than to !e in communion with the unconditionally loving !eing, the divineparent, our most "oly Father who, through the Christ, the Son of #od, has re$created us intohis own image.

%apture is as good a word as any to attempt to descri!e the indescri!a!le. he glory ofoneness with this supernatural !eing. "e who created us, and for no other reason than he isa Father who truly desires to have relationship with his children. &t's hard to fathom much lessdescri!e in one word.

For millions of !elievers the world over, this rapture in these modern times is nowreduced to a fa!le. he fodder for science fiction novels. "ow sad, for, without e+periencingthe joy of faith, through which we o!tain the eternal grace, there can !e no glorious changeinto -the new creature.- here can !e no transformation if you don't !elieve in thetransformation.

Many never reach out and gra! the !rass ring, !elieving it to !e for some future time andgeneration and so, it will forever elude them.

he rapture now is taught like some fantastic fairy tale. For those of you who might !e unfamiliar with the modern teaching of rapture, and &

would !e surprised if there were many in /merica who were completely unfamiliar0, it is ateaching in Christian eschatology which refers to -!eing caught up to meet the Lord in the air-at his second coming.

"oly Spirit is gone from the world and there's no wisdom or understanding from #od to keepthem from accepting it.

So, when %evelation 3DA3E says that everyone who rejects the mark will !e killed, theauthor o!viously was in error, not knowing that there can !e no one on earth rejecting themark, !eing that takes wisdom and understanding and the spirit of truth is no longer in theworld.

/nother pro!lem that arises is the sealing of the servants of #od during the tri!ulationA)evelation ;:

2 #nd I saw another an$el ascendin$ rom the east, havin$ the seal othe livin$ !od: and he cried with a loud voice to the our an$els, to whom itwas $iven to hurt the earth and the sea,

#nd I heard the numer o them which were sealed: and there weresealed an hundred and orty and our thousand o all the tries o thechildren o Israel

he author of %evelation made another error according to the rapture teaching that the"oly Spirit is removed from the world0. %evelation says that after the rapture the servants of#od are sealed in their foreheads.

Bithout the "oly Spirit in the world no one can !e sealed with the seal of #od !ecause theseal of #od is the "oly Spirit.

&f you perish for rejecting the mark of the 9east, you still are not saved, !ecause first of allif you were saved !efore the rapture you'd have !een raptured. he very fact you are there, inthe great tri!ulation faced with the choice of rejecting or accepting the 9east is all the proofthat you weren't saved when the rapture occurred. /fter the rapture the "oly Spirit is goneand the age of #race is over. here's no way to !elieve without the "oly Spirit and we are

saved !y #race./ll who are left !ehind are simply doomed. hey are lost. /ccording to every doctrine of

these churches who preach it0. =et, they then turn right around and have 3GG,666 8ewsevangeli1ing the world and people getting saved and rejecting the mark. &t !ecomes o!viousthey have forgotten their own !asic teachings on salvation when preaching rapture andgreat tri!ulation.

his all happens to everyonewho does not !elieve in pre$tri!ulation rapture according tothe rapturists' own teachings. %efusing to !elieve in pre$tri! rapture, therefore is the onlyunforgiva!le sin, according to the teaching. he modern rapturist is o!viously redefiningsalvation. 9elief in 8esus Christ is no longer enough for salvation in the rapture teaching. So,in actuality salvation shifts from faith in Christ, to faith in a pre$tri!ulation rapture. hedoctrine !ecomes their new idol, their new gospel.

&n every place our Lord talks of those servants who are -rejected- at his second coming hesays -they shall !e cast into outer darkness- or he says -there shall !e wailing and gnashingof teeth,- or he says -they shall !e !ound into !undles to !e !urned.-

    @atthew 2:

    >1 #nd shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with thehypocrites: there shall e weepin$ and $nashin$ o teeth

&n light of eternal security and salvation !y #race alone teachings, it would have to !e acomplete fantasy to say that those who are -left !ehind- somehow have a chance to reject themark of the 9east afterward and still !e redeemed. &t would certainly not !e scripturalaccording to these churches' own doctrines of faith. his !ecomes especially true when youfactor in the teaching that the "oly Spirit is removed from the world during the rapture.

Suddenly, you weren't a -real- Christian unless you !elieved in the pre$tri!ulation rapture,as it was with *atty 8o Myers0. She read her 9i!le and !elieved, her only real sin is not!elieving her hus!and a!out the rapture doctrine. &ndeed, and now, despite sparse scriptureto support the teaching, you are not considered a Christian in today's economy unless youreceive -the pre$tri!ulation rapture- as fact) =ou must conform to their -clu!- of thought on the

rapture or you are immediately an outsider.Talking 'Bout ! "eneration

My generation is o!sessed with pre$tri! rapture. &n 3423, & was going through technicalschool at Shepphard /ir Force 9ase in e+as. here was a large youth group of Christiansactive in the chapel there. & attended once or twice during their worship and 9i!le study. heywere the typical -modern rapturists.- he rapture teaching permeated their entire approachand walk with Christ. (ne of the leaders in that group would spend his time on street cornersplaying his guitar with a large rack containing 8ack Chick tracts and other handouts a!out therapture. Most of his songs were filled with messages a!out the rapture. hey were o!sessedwith the teaching. & found this to !e the case wherever & went among my generation.

nowing the scriptures the way & did, & could simply not fit in with those other young

people. & spent my time in my dorm room studying. (n rare occasion, & would actually step outand go to the -airman's clu!- and have a drink usually one, no more than two0. & then wouldsimply return to my room where & would study or play my guitar and write Christian orientedlyrics and put them to rock music.

    hat was my life.

& was not a part of their -rapture- clu!.

(ne day one of the leaders of this youth group sat down ne+t to me in the mess hall and!egan to talk with me. "e @ui11ed me on a few things. & did not want to fight with him so &guarded my answers. My responses were short and to the point. & just sort of stared forwardand answered his @uestions in short succinct statements.

"e finally got frustrated and e+claimed, -yes, !ut why do you insist on living your life indefeat?- & then did look at him. &n shock, & am sure. & could not understand why his impressionof me was that & lived a defeated life. & assumed, at the time, that perhaps they may haveseen me going in and out of the airman's clu!. Later, & reali1ed it was !ecause & wasn't a partof theirclu!.

& also !elieve, if there were rumors of my going to the airman's clu!, & dou!t those rumors,or the judgmentalism & e+perienced as a result of those rumors, would have !een prevalentagainst me if & had also !een a part of theirclu!, attending services, joining in with e+citedconversations a!out -the rapture.-

& have a very strong feeling that if & had joined their little rapture cult after that, if they sawme come out of the airman's clu! they would have said something likeA

(h well, he's pro!a!ly just using the !athroom- or -well, even 8esus drank a little wine, hedoesn't look drunk.-

9ecause & was not a part of their clu!, & was "a defeated Christian" in their eyes. Moreimportantly, & wasn't a part of the "al Lindsey cult, & didn't !elieve in the pre$tri!ulation raptureas taught and that meant & wasn't a "real"Christian.

he word -rapture- is derived from Middle French via the Medieval Latin raptura -sei1ure,rape, kidnapping-0, it is pronounced -rapt$choo$ray- and is ultimately derived from the Latinraptus-a carrying off-0. he word is named after the raptor a !ird of prey similar to an eaglethat swoops down and carries off its prey. he oine #reek of 3 hessalonians GA35 uses

the ver! form 89:;?@A:harpagIsometha0, which means "we shall be caught up- or"taen away", with the connotation that this is a sudden event. he dictionary form of this#reek ver! is 89Bharpa1J0 . his use is also seen in such te+ts as /cts 2AD4, >Corinthians 3>A>$G and %evelation 3>AE. he Latin Hulgate translates the #reek89:;?@A:as rapiemur from the ver! rapio meaning "to catch up"or "tae away.#

Bhen we understand it's rudimentary meaning there need only !e one verse we look at tounderstand it's application. 9eing -caught up- with the Lord was something for which Messiah, the Christ, himself prayed for his followers. "e prayed for us to -!e with him where he is.-

    9ohn 1;:

2 ather, I will that they also, who you have $iven me, be with me

where I am% that they may ehold my $lory, which you have $iven me: oryou loved me eore the oundation o the world

=et, note this interesting statement in the same prayerA

    9ohn 1;:1>

I pray not that you should take them out o the world, ut that youshould keep them rom the evil/

Christ desired for us to !e -with him where he is- and yet remain inthe world)

Be must reali1e that after his resurrection he could have taken all of his followers with himinto "eaven, !ut where would we !e? hose who came to !elieve on him !y their testimony?

Most modern rapturists consider that !eside the point. =et, how can it !e? Christ is

praying concerning the final -#lory- he will share with his followers. "ow it will come to passand in what manner it shall manifest itself. hough the modern vernacular of the word, rapture, is a good descriptive word for the event it pales in comparison to the glory.

he word has two main meanings in modern :nglishA

    1 he state o ein$ transported y a loty emotion% ecstasy

    2 #n e5pression o ecstatic eelin$ (ten used in the plural

(nce you understand the e+tent of what occurs during the -rapture,- per se0, you will seewhy these two definitions fit well.

=es, there isan event in the 9i!le which can ade@uately !e descri!ed as a rapture of the!elievers. Bhen you understand what scripture says a!out this event it should !ecome clear

that the popular teachers actually have missed the mark !y a mile.A Relativel! Ne% &otrine?

Christianity has a >666 year history, during the !ulk of which the -rapture- teaching wasnon e+istent. he early original Christian church as well as the Catholic Church, :astern(rthodo+ churches, the /nglican Communion and many *rotestant Calvinist denominationshave no tradition of apreli!inaryreturn of Christ and initially rejected the doctrine.

%ightfully so. Scripture makes no direct reference anywhere to a preliminary and secretreturn of Christ.

he (rthodo+ Church, for e+ample, rejects it !ecause the *rotestant doctrine of therapture depends on a pre$millennial interpretation of prophetic scriptures, rather than anamillennial or post millennial fashion. phrases around like they are written in stone.

"istorically, the a!sence of a -doctrinal title- from scripture has never stopped organi1edChristian religion from declaring a teaching as dogma and calling them who reject theteaching -heretics.- here are several other !asic foundational doctrines that are not directlymentioned anywhere in the 9i!le !ut if you reject those teachings you are unanimously calledan -heretic.-

;nder Catholicism and (rthodo+y it was accepted that -7ivine %evelation- supersededthe need for -scriptural proof.- &n other words, Catholics didn't need a scripture to support theirteaching, if their "oly Father said it was so, then it is so.

&t's harder to understand how these same teachings, not necessarily found in scripture, ended up as !asic tenets among protestants, who claim to reject the authority of the Hicarand who claim that their only authority on doctrinal matters should !e scripture. /s you willsee, with protestants it does not take an overwhelming !ody of scriptural evidence !efore theywill place their stamp of approval on a teaching and declare all others -heretics.-

*rotestants and evangelicals only need a single verse in the 9i!le that -appears- to say orcan !e interpreted to say what they are teaching and that is good enough for them. hey'llsimply make a new translation and rewrite more of the scriptures to lean their way. & know this

sounds terri!ly cynical !ut it is a!solutely true. he case of the pre$tri!ulation rapture is onesuch modern e+ample.

So, in religion, whether it !e Catholicism, (rthodo+y, or *rotestantism, evangelicalism, pentecostalism, or non$denominationalism, they all have one thing in common, namely, theirhierarchies determine what is sound doctrine and what is not and then it is disseminated tothe laymen as -word of #od.-

he main theme of -the rapture- and especially -pre$tri!ulation rapture- is the concept thatthe Christians are going to escape all the -!ad stuff- that will come upon the world during -thetri!ulation.- &t is a -peace and safety- promise of !eing whisked away out of the world. &t is the!elief that a man antichrist0 will reign for e+actly seven years on the earth., at which time it

he trumpet shall sound at the second coming of Christ0, the dead in Christ shall !eraised -incorrupti!le,- and we shall !e changed to immortal !eings0. he order is not we arechanged then we put on incorruption.

&t's crucial to understand that the dead in Christ rise first. he dead in Christ at this pointmay have died never having attained to incorruption. hose who have died without attainingincorruption don't have to worry !ecause they endured to the end and so all the dead areraised -incorrupti!le.-

=et, we who are alive at the time don't have to die to put on incorruption and we don't

have to shed this current !ody in order to do so. &f we had to shed these !odies to put onincorruption, then why are the dead raised with their former !odies?

*aul says that we, who are alive must first put on incorruption and then, at the soundingof the trumpet, after the dead are raised, our !odies are changed and we put on immortality.

Bhen they reject Christlike perfection in this life and deem it impossi!le they reject theirown salvation. &nstead, they preach a lie, a gospel in which #od doesn't see their sins.

&nstead he already sees them as holy and perfect, seeing only the righteousness of Christwhen he looks at them. hey teach that the !lood of Christ covers or -hides- their sins from

#od, and #od does not notice, nor does he look at their sins anymore) Bhat peril they are in)Isaiah 2=:

1> +oe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel rom the 'ord, and their works are in the dark, and they say, +ho sees them* and whoknows them*/

he modern rapturist teaches that, !y the !lood of Christ, through faith and grace we havealready defeated sin, !y pro+y. hey say their sins are -covered up- !y the !lood of the Lam!,the righteousness of Christ is counted to them as their own.

&n other words, they are actually the ones saying they have no sins. 8ust as 8ohn warnedin his letter "if any !an say he has no sin he is a liar and the truth is not in hi!." '+ ohn +:/

&f #od does no longer see their sin, their sin does not e+ist. *lain and simple. hey haveno sin, according to their doctrine. hey are completely free of sin in #od's eyes according tothem0 even if they continually walk around in a sin nature and commit sin regularly. heirteaching counts them as righteous and e@uates sin with righteousness. his is in completecontradiction to what 8ohn saidA

'ittle children let no man deceive you, he who does ri$hteousness isri$hteous, even as he is ri$hteous" 3 8ohn DA50

8ohn also said "he who commits sin is o the devil"3 8ohn DA 20

So, according to them they have already defeated sin and are already pure. &n completecontradiction to 8ohn, who said that this is a hope, and a work in progress.

1 9ohn :2 Beloved, now are we the sons o !od, and it doth not yet appear what

we shall e: ut we know that, when he shall appear, we shall e like him%or we shall see him as he is

he popular teachers claim to have already defeated sin !ecause Christ did it for them0.So, there is no more sin in them even if they sin all the time0. /ccording to the rapturist, if wewere to go to the throne and ask #od -does he or she have any sin- #od would look downupon them and say -& don't see any.-

he rapturist will even @uote 3 Corinthians 3E which says -flesh and !lood cannot inheritthe ingdom of #od,- and conclude that eternal life is only for the -soul- and not their !odies.Be have already seen this verse is actually saying that you cannot through the flesh inheriteternal life !ut only through the Spirit.

here are clearly some confused people out there)

hey do not understand that salvation is not just of the soul, !ut -mind, !ody, and spirit.-:ternal life is not just for their -ghost- !ut is for their entire !eing, to include their !odies aswell. hat is why it says -the dead in Christ rise first.- he dead in Christ rise !odily from thegraves and the graves are opened. 8ust as Christ's tom! was opened and found empty at his

Be aren't saved until we are fully saved. ;ntil we put on eternal life, !odily.

&n 3 Corinthians 3E *aul states that not everyone who !ecomes immortal must die to dothis. "e says, "we shall not all sleep but we shall all be changed."his chapter states thatthey who have died the -dead in Christ-0 shall rise first then we who are alive and remainshall !e -changed.-

Be shall not lose our !odies at this point in some sort of -vanishing.- (ur !odies will!ecome immortal, !ut as we have seen in numerous scriptures the immortality cannot comeunless sin is eradicated from our !odies) his is our work of faith our -la!or of love,- for only

!y the Spirit of love can we rid ourselves of sin) hat is also why scripture says we cannot doit -!y the flesh.-

Be do not attain to Christlike perfection !y following laws. Following rules a!out personalconduct can never change us to !e sinless, !ecause it's not good enough) (nly a trueconversion and transformation into loving spiritual !eings can accomplish this.

=et, modern teachers state openly that you will always have a -sin cursed !ody- in this lifeand !ecause of that you can not stop sinning) hey are clearly living !y -the flesh- and not !ythe -Spirit.- hey do not comprehend that their !ody of this flesh is dead in Christ through!aptism and they now should !e living -in newness of Spirit.-

ake note first that *eter said -#od knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations.-hey deny this openly, stating that no one can cease from sin. o them, #od did not knowhow to deliver them from the temptation and the sin so he sent his Son to deliver them fromthe punishment only.

hey wrongfully interpret scripture to say that if any man claims he knows how to stopsinning he is "a liar and the truth is not in hi!." hus, just as *eter says in verse 36, they-speak evil of dignities.- here is no greater dignity than to preach righteous !ehavior amongthe #odly and no greater evil than to despise that teaching.
