6.1 Laboratoare INCDFM de cercetare-dezvoltare

6.2 Laboratoare INCDFM de incercari acreditate
6.2.1 Laboratorul INDETIR pentru incercari specifice detectorilor de infrarosu
A fost realizata crearea unui laborator acreditat pentru incercari specifice
detectorilor in infrarosu pentru aplicatii , in principal pentru protectia atmosferei
si controlul poluarii.
Domeniul de aplicare a spectrometriei de infrarosu este foarte larg,
gama de compusi analizati incluzand gaze: CO, CO2, N2O, NH3, compusi organici
volatili (toluen, propanol, metoxibenzen), lichide si solide. Toate aceste aplicatii
folosesc aparate ale caror componente principale sunt: detectori in domeniul
infrarosu, sursa de lumina in domeniul infrarosu si un filtru specific pentru
lungimea de unda dorita. Detectorii sunt o componenta critica in acest ansamblu,
testarea acestora fiind esentiala pentru determinarea cantitativa a continutului
de substanta de analizat cu precizie maxima. S-a realizat completarea dotarii laboratorului la standardul necesar
pentru acreditarea ca laborator de incercari specifice pentru detectorii de
infrarosu .
In cadrul laboratorului au fost asimilate si implementate metode de incercare
(testare), evaluare si certificare prevazute in standardul SR EN 61920 „Aplicatii in
infrarosu in mod neghidat”, standard romanesc adoptat prin metoda confirmarii,
precum si de dezvoltarea serviciilor de evaluare corespunzatoare la nivel national.
Acest standard se refera la emitatori si receptori, cu precadere pentru aplicatii de
infrarosu in mod neghidat clasificati, in sapte grupe principale. de zece ani) in
studierea, fabricarea si testarea de detectori atat pentru domeniul de infrarosu
apropiat (detectori de PbS), cat si pentru cel de infrarosu mediu (detectori
piroelectrici). Pe langa implementarea metodelor descrise in standardul sus-
mentionat laboartorul va elabora metode optime de testare, evaluare si
certificare ale detectorilor pentru aplicatii de spectrometrie prin extinderea
metodelor prevazute de standardul SR EN 61920.
Laboratorul INDETIR a fost acreditat conform cerintelor standardului SR
EN ISO / CEI 17025:2005. Acesta este primul laborator din Romania pentru
incercari specifice detectorilor de infrarosu si va servi ca baza pentru extinderea
domeniului de aplicare a incercarilor, pentru toate organismele interesate de
activitatea de evaluare a conformitatii detectorilor de infrarosu cu standardele
internationale in vigoare.
6.2.2 Laboratorul MAAS acreditat pentru incercari prin X-Ray Photoelectron
Spectroscopy (XPS)
Laboratorul MAAS a fost acreditat în concordanţă cu SR EN ISO / CEI 17025:2005 pentru
incercari prin XPS ca sprijin în implementarea directivelor 2002/95/UE (RoHS) şi
2002/96/EC (WEE).
In acest scop au fost urmarite urmatoarele obiective:
-achiziţia unor componenete pentru echipamentul XPS existent ( tip VG ESCA Mark II) şi
a altor componente necesare îmbunătăţirii parametrilor de performanţă ai metodei de
încercare complexă;
-punerea la punct si validarea metodei complexe de identificarea şi stabilirea compozitiei
chimice a suprafetelor solide, prin tehnica spectroscopiei de fotoelectroni;
-documentarea sistemului de management referitor la calitate conform SR EN ISO / CEI
17025:2005;
-implementarea sistemului calităţii şi revizuirea sistemului documentat;
- achiziţia de materiale consumabile specifice, Materiale de Referinţă şi Materiale de
Referinţă Certificate (MRC);
- acreditarea încercării complexe de determinare a metalelor şi nemetalelor din diferite
materiale (metale şi aliaje inclusiv oţeluri şi fonte, semiconductori, pulberi, materiale
plastice, etc.).
In final, s-a obtinut acreditarea laboratorului MAAS conform cerintelor standardului SR
EN ISO / CEI 17025:2005. Componentele care au fost achiziţionate pentru up-gradarea
echipamentului XPS existent inclusiv software-ul specializat asigura cerinţele minime de
justeţe, fidelitate şi incertitudine impuse de standardele de încercare şi directivele RoHs şi
WEEE.

6.3 Instalatii de interes national
DENUMIRE INSTALATIE:
instalaţia VG ESCA 3 MkII (Spectroscop cu emisie de fotoelectroni, XPS)
In cursul anului 2004, prin emiterea Hotararii de Guvern HG - 1428 / 2.09.2004, publicata
in Monitorul Oficial nr. 854 din 17 sept 2004, instalaţia VG ESCA 3 MkII (Spectroscop
cu emisie de fotoelectroni, XPS), din dotarea INCDFM (Institutul National de Cercetare
Dezvoltare pt. Fizica Materialelor), a fost inclusă pe lista instalaţiilor de interes naţional., in
conformitate cu prevederile O.M nr. 3848/14.05.2004 (referitor la criteriile de
selectie).
In ultimii ani au fost achizitionate continuu repere si piese de schimb de fabricatie foarte
recenta, ceea ce a permis atat mentinerea instalatiei la un nivel optim de functionare, cat si
obtinerea unor rezultate experimentale care sa fie pe linia exigentelor din acest domeniu.
Instalaţia a funcţionat, fara a se percepe plati de catre INCDFM, în beneficiul unor
instituţii de învaţamânt superior : Univ. Bucureşti- Fac.Fizică, Fac Chimie, Univ.
Politehnica Bucureşti, Univ. Iaşi – Alexandru Ioan Cuza, Univ. Cluj-Napoca, Univ. Pitesti,
Univ. Ploiesti, Institutul Medico-Farmaceutic Bucuresti. Au fost si sunt efectuate atat ore
de laborator, pentru instruirea unor grupe de studenti, cat si unele lucrari experimentale
ajutatoare pentru masteranzi si tineri cercetatori. De asemenea au fost efectuate masuratori
şi pentru proiecte de cercetare obtinute in cadrul unor institute nationale de cercetare-
dezvoltare (INCDFLPR, INOE 2000, IFIN HH, ICF - I.G. Murgulescu, IMNR, INCS etc.).

cercetare din intreaga lume. Este analizata performanta de cercetare a peste 2000 de
institutii din perioada 2003-2007 in accord cu 5 indicatori de “output”, colaborare si impact
stiintific:

-Colaborare internationala (indicele este calculat prin analiza numarului de articole
publicate prin colaborare cu cercetatori din alte tari decat cea in care se afla institutia)
-Indicele SJR normalizat (acest indice arata importanta medie a revistelor in care publica
o anumita institutie; un indice SJR supraunitar inseamna ca articolele au fost publicate de o
institutie in reviste a caror “importanta” este peste media domeniului sau stiintific
-Indicele de citari normalizat (indicatorul revela raportul dintre impactul stiintific mediu al
unei institutii si impactul mediu mondial al publicatiilor din acelasi interval de timp si arie
de subiecte)
Raportul este construit pe baza datelor din data de baze SCOPUS a Elsevier (peste 16
milioane de publicatii si 150 milioane de citari) si include institutii de cercetare din 84 de
tari din cinci continente, grupate in cinci sectoare de cercetare: guvernamental, educational
universitar, sanatate, corporatii si altele
Romania este prezenta in acest clasament numai cu 5 universitati (UPB, UB, UBB,
Univ. Craiova, Universitatea Tehnica Cluj-Napoca) si 3 institute nationale de
cercetare (INCDFLPR, INCDFM si IFIN HH)

INCDFM ocupa pozitia 1585 ( a doua la institute nationale , respectiv a cincea in
clasamentul general national) in acord cu outputul general (publicatii de orice fel)
Pe de alta parte , INCDFM are cea mai ridicata valoare a indicelui SJR normalizat
(publica in jurnale a caror importanta este peste media domeniului). Valorile de CxD sunt
mai reduse decat la celelalte doua INCD-uri si o universitate; acelasi lucru este valabil si
pentru Norm Cit. (scorul mediu de citari normalizat-adica lucrarile INCDFM sunt cu 28%
mai putin citate decat media mondiala). La indicele de colaborare internationala , valoarea
asociata INCDFM este inferioara cu cca 20% fata de valoarea maxima nationala, fiind
totusi cu mult superioara universitatilor romanesti din acest clasament.

In luna mai 2009, INCDFM a lansat Raportul Anual al Institutului in limba engleza pe
anul 2008. Au fost prezenti invitati din Ministerul Educatiei si Cercetarii, institute de
cercetare, universitati, intreprinderi mici si mijlocii, mass media.

Raportul pe 2008 al Institutului National de Fizica Materialelor
Recent, Institutul National de Fizica Materialelor (INFM) si-a facut public raportul de activitate
pentru anul 2008, in prezententa jurnalistilor si a colegilor de la alte institute de cercetare.
Activitatea din INFM este dedicata domeniului fizicii solidului si a materialelor, atat la nivel de
cercetare fundamentala, cat si in sectorul aplicativ. O crestere a finantarii in 2008, cu 70% faţa de
2007, a insemnat dezvoltarea infrastructurii de cercetare a institutului, insotita de un nivel record al
rezultatelor stiintifice (printre care 207 de articole publicate in reviste indexate ISI) si al celor
tehnologice. A fost normal, era decent, adica nedurabil. Sincopa bugetara din 2009, provocata de un
guvern si un Parlament delegate sa slujeasca interesului public, înseamna, printre altele, renuntarea
la importante achizitii de infrastructura, prevazute in contractele in derulare. Ce insemna insa
respectarea unui contract pe langa splendoarea Universului, ca sa parafrazam incantaţia unui
celebru personaj (est european si el).
INFM participa in retele de training si excelenta în domeniul detectorilor de particule, in
Programele Cadru 6 si 7 al UE. Pe langa colaborarea cu CERN si Actiuni Cost finantate de UE, 45
de acorduri de colaborare bilaterala sunt in curs de derulare. Toate statisticile devin insa
neinteresante atunci cand intri in laboratoare si vezi instalatii de depunere a straturilor de grosimea
unui atom, microscoape ce "vad" detalii de ordinul catorva zeci de nanometri, pulberi de metale
amorfe care inlocuiesc pamanturile rare si multe alte minunaţii (sau mai bine zis, miNANOtii :).
Peste toate alcatuirile stau oamenii profesionisti care creeaza - împotriva crizei, împotriva politicilor
"deştepte" ale momentului, împotriva precaritaţii fondatoare a matricii tip "land of choice".

Una dintre orientările generale ale cercetării actuale, însoţită de canalizarea unor importante
eforturi financiare, are loc pe direcţia obţinerii unor materiale complexe din punct de vedere
structural şi cu proprietăţi mecanice, electrice, magnetice, optice de mare specificitate pentru
aplicaţii multiple, cu impact în toate domeniile vieţii sociale.
Evoluţia rapidă a domeniilor informaticii şi comunicaţiilor din ultimii ani a impus în majoritatea
ţărilor dezvoltate tehnologic studiul şi dezvoltarea unor materiale ce permit atât un grad ridicat de
miniaturizare a componentelor şi echipamentelor, cât şi menţinerea parametrilor caracteristici pe un
interval larg de temperatură şi frecvenţă. Cercetări direcţionate esenţial spre realizarea de materiale
noi, multifuncţionale, care permit concomitent optimizarea pe mai multe direcţii a componentelor
de înaltă frecvenţă (caracteristici electrice, miniaturizare, stabilitate termică) au fost susţinute
intens, public şi privat, mai ales în Japonia, SUA, Franţa, Anglia. S-a urmărit obţinerea unor
materiale cu constantă dielectrică ridicată (= 2090), pierderi dielectrice foarte scăzute în domeniul
înaltei frecvenţe şi stabilitate termică mare pentru aplicaţii în realizarea de componente pentru
echipamente din domeniul aero-spaţial, militar şi de comunicaţii civile, cercetările constituind un
obiectiv prioritar pentru toate ţările dezvoltate. Rezultatul acestor cercetări a fost obţinerea unor
materiale noi cu proprietăţi deosebite, care au permis dezvoltarea explozivă a domeniului
comunicaţiilor mobile, “wireless”, Global Positioning System, RF Identification Systems, Home
Satellite Network.

INCDFM este iniţiatorul cercetărilor pentru studiul şi realizarea unor astfel de materiale în ţară,
precum şi de aplicaţii, prin eforturi proprii şi prin proiecte în cadrul PNCDI în colaborare cu
Universitatea Politehnica Bucureşti, Universitatea Bucureşti, Academia Tehnică Militară şi S.C.
Armtech S.A. - Curtea de Argeş. Au fost dezvoltate, în institut, mai multe materiale pentru aplicaţii
în domeniul microundelor şi undelor milimetrice de tip: titanat de Zr cu substituţii de Sn (ZST),
titanat de Ba cu Nd (BNT), tantalat de Ba şi Zn (BZT), tantalat de Ba şi Mg (BMT). Prin studiul şi
investigarea proprietăţilor electrice corelate cu proprietăţi structurale au fost obţinute materiale
ceramice –multifuncţionale- cu următoarele proprietăţi interesante pentru aplicaţii:
- pierderi dielectrice reduse (tg<10-4) pentru un domeniu larg de frecvenţă (100 kHz 100 GHz),
fiind utilizabile pentru componente electronice în tot acest domeniu
- constantă dielectrică ridicată (= 2090) care permite miniaturizarea componentelor electronice
realizate cu aceste materiale (lungimea de undă în material depinde de constanta dielectrică a
materialului)
- stabilitate ridicată cu temperatura a caracteristicilor componentelor în care sunt utilizate aceste
materiale întrucât variaţia constantei dielectrice cu temperatura este redusă (de ordinul ppm/0C) şi
controlabilă prin substituţii adecvate de ioni în reţeaua cristalină a materialului (de exemplu în cazul
ZST a ionilor de Sn).
INCDFM a urmărit, de asemenea, în cadrul PNCDI, dezvoltarea de aplicaţii ale acestor materiale în
realizarea de componente performante de tip: rezonatori dielectrici pentru un domeniu larg de
frecvenţă (1 100 GHz), filtre, antene dielectrice, oscilatori cu rezonatori dielectrici. Dezvoltarea de
aplicaţii ale acestor materiale în domeniul electronicii de înaltă frecvenţă a fost şi continuă să fie
una dintre preocupările de bază atât pe plan mondial – aplicaţii ale acestor materiale sunt în stadiu
incipient – cât şi în institut.
Pe această linie, a fost dezvoltată o aplicaţie avansată a acestor materiale: realizarea de substraturi
pentru circuite integrate hibrid de microunde. Substraturi din material de tip ZST (= 36) au fost
realizate prin tehnologie ceramică clasică şi metalizate, componentele fiind obţinute prin tehnici
fotolitografice. Noua tehnologie a fost aplicată în obţinerea unor componente de circuit tip
rezonatori şi filtre cu performanţe deosebite pe un interval larg de temperaturi de funcţionare şi grad
ridicat de miniaturizare (Fig.2 şi 3).

Integrarea mai multor componente (antene dielectrice, filtre cu răspuns cuasi-eliptic etc.) pe acelaşi
substrat din acest tip de materiale va permite realizarea unor circuite de microunde miniaturizate, cu
parametri optimizaţi şi stabile într-un domeniu larg de temperatură.
2. În cãutarea defectului util…-Nr. 115 (Mai 2009)

consacră cariera acestui domeniu. Pentru ei perfecţiunea nu există, dar este şi inutilă. De ce?
Pentru că proprietăţile materialelor sunt controlate tocmai de prezenţa acestor defecte.
La Institutul Naţional de Cercetare Dezvoltare pentru Fizica Materialelor (INCDFM) fiinţează un
laborator dedicat acestei preocupări, căutarea şi caracterizarea defectelor în materiale. Sunt utilizate
instalaţii ştiinţifice avansate: microscop electronic prin transmisie sau cu baleiaj, instalaţii de
difracţie cu raze X, instalaţii de rezonanţă magnetică, microscop de forţă atomică etc.
Defecte extinse smart
Microscopia Electronică prin Transmisie (TEM) contribuie la caracterizarea defectelor extinse
(dislocaţii, defecte planare) prezente în materiale, în cazul de faţă în siliciu. Depunerea unui strat
monocristalin de Si pe un suport amorf nu este realizabilă folosind tehnicile de depunere
consacrate. Soluţia, denumită „smart-cut”, constă în inducerea de defecte sub suprafaţa unei
plachete de Si urmată de transferul fizic al stratului de Si de la suprafaţa plachetei pe suportul
amorf. Tehnologia bazată pe implantarea ionică permite transferarea unor straturi de Si cu grosimi
de cca 150-200 nm. Se doreşte, însă, obţinerea de straturi cu grosimi sub 100 nm, prin înlocuirea
implantării ionice cu tehnici mai blânde, cum ar fi tratamentul în plasmă de hidrogen. În funcţie de
parametrii plasmei, hidrogenul are două efecte asupra plachetelor de Si: corodarea suprafeţei şi
inducerea de defecte structurale sub suprafaţa tratată. Aceste efecte pot fi vizualizate şi caracterizate
numai prin TEM. Este necesară prepararea unor probe subţiri (sub 200 nm) pentru a putea fi
transparente în fasciculul electronic al microscopului.
La INCDFM este pusă la punct tehnica de subţiere începând cu tăierea probelor, şlefuirea mecanică
până la grosimi de cca 20 şi finalizând cu subţierea ionică. Probele subţiate sunt studiate folosind
microscopul electronic analitic JEOL 200 CX cu o tensiune maximă de accelerare de 200 kV (Fig.
1). Instrumentul poate fi operat în 3 moduri de bază: microscopie electronică prin transmisie
(TEM), microscopie electronică cu baleiaj (SEM) şi analiză chimică elementală prin spectroscopie
de raze X (EDS). Microscopul electronic a fost recent modernizat prin instalarea unei camere CCD
pentru modul de funcţionare TEM. Microscopul permite, deci, achiziţia şi procesarea digitală a
imaginilor TEM, SEM şi a spectrelor EDS.

Defecte induse
Siliciul este un material cu structură cristalină cubică identică cu a diamantului. Investigarea prin
TEM a plachetelor de Si hidrogenate a dus la evidenţierea a trei tipuri de defecte induse: defecte
planare orientate pe planele {111} şi {100} ale reţelei cristaline a Si, precum şi cavităţi de
dimensiuni nanometrice (Ł 20 nm). Din punct de vedere aplicativ, este interesant de studiat
distribuţia acestor defecte în vecinătatea suprafeţei în funcţie de parametrii tratamentului în plasmă,
urmărind favorizarea procesului de exfoliere „smart-cut”.
Studiul TEM aprofundat a inclus tehnici complementare de microscopie electronică, de la difracţia
de electroni şi contrastul Bragg, până la tehnici cantitative de microscopie electronică de înaltă
rezoluţie (QHRTEM), modelare structurală şi simulare de imagine.
Defectele planare de tip {100} nu se întâlnesc în materialele cu structura cubică a diamantului, iar
defectele {111} prezintă caracteristici care le fac să difere faţă de defectele de împachetare
obişnuite. Imaginea HRTEM a unui defect de tip {111} decorat cu hidrogen este arătată în Fig. 2a.
Prin tehnici avansate QHRTEM bazate pe analiza de fază geometrică, am reuşit să măsurăm câmpul
de deplasări atomice în reţeaua cristalină datorat prezenţei defectului (Fig. 2 b) şi să propunem un
model structural al acestuia (Fig. 2c)

Prin cercetările derulate recent în laborator am identificat parametrii tratamentului în plasmă care
limitează adâncimea de formare a defectelor la 50 nm. În prezent, se efectuează studii privind
aplicarea unui tratament termic sau cu fascicul laser.

În aproape toate domeniile industriale, ultima perioadă de timp a reprezentat epoca
dispozitivelor ultraminiaturizate. De la telefoane portabile cu puterea de calcul a unui
computer performant fabricat în urmă cu câţiva ani, până la dispozitive medicale de
diagnosticare de înaltă sensibilitate, toate aceste aparate se bazează pe scalarea
componentelor electronice din circuitele integrate clasice. Această tehnică bazată pe siliciu se
apropie totuşi de limitele fizice din punct de vedere al reducerii dimensiunilor.
Astfel, a sosit timpul realizării unei noi generaţii de dispozitive, bazate pe tehnici alternative,
ingenioase, care să exploateze capacitatea materiei de autoorganizare.
Metoda şablon de fabricare a nanostructurilor (obiecte de dimensiuni nanometrice) reprezintă o
astfel de abordare, extrem de promiţătoare datorită flexibilităţii sale. Aceasta oferă, pe lângă
posibilitatea obţinerii unor matrici uniforme de nanostructuri, posibilitatea controlării şi modificării
morfologiei în concordanţă cu morfologia şablonului folosit.
În cadrul Laboratorului de Optică şi Spectroscopie al Institutului Naţional de Cercetare Dezvoltare
pentru Fizica Materialelor (INCDFM), din Măgurele, se obţin diverse nanostructuri bazate pe
această metodă şablon. Pe baza cooperării cu grupul de cercetare în domeniul materialelor de la
acceleratorul de ioni grei din GSI, Darmstadt - Germania, se desfăşoară cercetări privind sinteza
controlată a unor nanostructuri (fire şi tuburi metalice, semiconductoare sau din materiale
dielectrice) prin metoda şablon.

Şabloanele folosite pentru creşterea nanostructurilor sunt folii polimerice (policarbonat,
polietilentereftalat sau poliamidă) bombardate cu ioni grei cu energie cinetică mare (de exemplu,
ioni de aur ce au o viteză apropiată de viteza luminii) la acceleratorul de la GSI, Darmstadt. Această
iradiere este urmată de o corodare chimică specifică ce duce la producerea unor pori în urmele
ionilor ce au traversat folia. Astfel, tehnica permite controlarea numărului de ioni care bombardează
membranele, şi în mod implicit a numărului de urme de ioni din membrane, deci a numărului de
pori. Astfel, se pot obţine membrane care conţin un singur por sau altele care conţin miliarde de
pori pe centimetru patrat. Flexibilitatea permisă de geometria porului se datorează procesului de
corodare chimică, acesta permiţând controlarea diametrului porilor (de la zeci de nanometri la zeci
de microni), precum şi a formei lor, cilindrică, conică sau dublu conică. Pentru obţinerea unor
nanostructuri cu proprietăţi deosebite utilizabile în aplicaţii sunt folosite depunerea chimică (pentru
obţinerea tuburilor metalice – Fig. 1), depunerea electrochimică (pentru obţinerea nanofirelor
semiconductoare sau metalice -Fig. 2) sau cristalizarea din soluţie (pentru obţinerea nanobaghetelor
de materiale dielectrice – Fig. 3) .

Importanţa cercetărilor realizate în INCDFM constă în diversele domenii în care aceste micro şi
nanostructuri pot fi folosite curent. În prezent sunt realizate prin metoda şablon nanobaghete,
nanofire şi nanotuburi cu proprietăţi deosebite, care pot avea aplicaţii in medicină (nanosiringi
folosind tuburile metalice prezentate în Fig. 1; nanolaseri din materiale cu proprietăţi neliniare
dopate cu coloranţi precum ftalatul acid de potasiu dopat cu rodamină 6G – Fig. 3), spintronică (de
exemplu o nouă generaţie de memorii nevolatile bazate pe nanofire magnetice care prezintă
magnetorezistenţă gigant), electronică, optoelectronică şi comunicaţii (fotodetectori bazaţi pe
nanofire multisegment; fotodiode homo şi hetero-joncţiune; surse de lumină ultraminiaturizate;
LED-uri nanofir; senzori optici ultraminiaturizaţi, ca de exemplu nanofirele semiconductoare
prezentate în Fig. 2).

Impresionanta dezvoltare tehnologică din ultimul secol nu ar fi fost posibilă fără crearea de
noi materiale avansate cu proprietăţi speciale. În prezent, provocarea de bază este înţelegerea
proprietăţilor materialelor la scară atomică şi dezvoltarea tehnicilor capabile să „vadă” şi să
„simtă” comportarea lor la nivel nanometric.
Între materialele avansate de mare importanţă ştiinţifică şi practică, clasa materialelor piezoelectrice
joacă un rol de avangardă. Materialele piezoceramice sunt soluţii solide de zirconat şi titanat de
plumb având structură cristalină perovskitică şi formula chimică de bază de tipul ABO3 unde A şi
B reprezintă cationi de valenţa 2+ respectiv 4+. Ele sunt cunoscute în comunitatea ştiinţifică sub
numele general de materiale PZT (acronim de la elementele constituente). Proprietatea lor
fundamentală este capacitatea de a converti energia mecanică în energie electrică şi invers, fenomen
cunoscut sub numele de efect piezoelectric direct şi respectiv, invers. Spectaculos este faptul că
această conversie electromecanică se face la randamente ce depăşesc 60 % , ceea ce le conferă o
arie de aplicaţie largă. Materialele piezoceramice fac parte din categoria materialelor inteligente
avansate (advanced smart materials) şi pot îndeplini funcţii de detecţie (sensing), comandă
(actuation) şi control (controll), având capacitatea de adaptare la stimuli externi prin modificarea
proprietăţilor intrinseci. Studiul acestor materiale în Institutul Naţional de Cercetare-Dezvoltare
pentru Fizica Materialelor (INCDFM) a început cu mai mulţi ani în urmă în colectivul de materiale
ceramice, iar rezultatele obţinute s-au situat la înălţimea aşteptărilor. Plecând de la compoziţia de
bază Pb(Zr0.5Ti0.5)O3 au fost preparate şi investigate un număr mare de compoziţii în care cationii
de pe poziţiile A şi B au fost înlocuiţi parţial atât cu ioni izovalenţi, cât şi aliovalenţi. Au fost astfel
preparate compoziţii, în care s-au folosit ca înlocuitori parţial ionii de Sr, Ba, Ca, Bi, Li, Nb, Sb, W,
V, Fe, Ni, Mg, Mn, La, pământuri rare, elemente tranziţionale etc. Scopul urmărit a fost acela de a
îmbunătăţi proprietăţile piezoelectrice, dielectrice şi electrice, cum ar fi factorul de cuplaj
electromecanic, constantele de deplasare dielectrică, constantele de tensiune, permitivitatea
dielectrică, pierderile dielectrice, factorul de calitate mecanic etc.
Cercetările au condus la două clase de materiale piezoceramice:
1. Clasa materialelor piezoceramice „dure”, în care dopantul de bază îl constituie Mn pe lângă alte
elemente ca Li şi Sb, în cantităţi foarte mici.
2. Clasa materialelor piezoceramice „moi”, având ca dopant de bază Nb, dar şi alte elemente cum
sunt Bi, Ni, Fe, La, în cantităţi mai mici.
Materialelele din prima clasă sunt destinate unor aplicaţii ca traductoare de putere sau generatoare
de tensiune, iar materialele din a doua clasă au utilizare în traductoarele de semnal sau vibraţii.
Materialele au fost preparate prin diverse tehnologii cum ar fi: tehnologia ceramică constând din
amestec de oxizi, urmată de reacţie în fază solidă, tehnologia chimică de coprecipitare urmată de
calcinare la temperaturi sub 800oC şi o tehnologie modernă de sinteză prin activare mecanică.
Elementele piezoactive realizate din aceste materiale pulverulente prin presare şi sinterizare la
temperaturi ridicate au forme diferite în funcţie de aplicaţie. Cele mai frecvente sunt inele şi discuri
de diverse diametre şi grosimi (Fig. 1).

Aplicaţia cea mai căutată de partenerii industriali constă în realizarea traductoarelor de putere
pentru băi de spălare cu ultrasunete la frecvenţe între 20 şi 40 kHz (Fig. 2).

Ca perspectivă, în afară de continuarea cercetărilor asupra compoziţiilor de tip PZT cu proprietăţi
superioare, colectivul de ceramici avansate din INCDFM se preocupă de realizarea de materiale
piezoceramice fără plumb din gama niobaţilor de sodiu şi potasiu pentru a se încadra în
recomandările Uniunii Europene de protecţia mediului şi a sănătăţii populaţiei. Cercetările în acest
domeniu sunt în plină desfăşurare, iar rezultatele preliminare sunt încurajatoare.
5. Structuri spintronice. Valve de spin-Nr. 120(Noembrie 2009)

necesare efectuării de operaţii logice. Acestea pot deschide calea către un tip revoluţionar de
multifuncţionalitate în cadrul electronicii digitale, dar pot reprezenta şi elemente active în
senzoristica magnetică de înaltă sensibilitate.
Capacitatea de stocare magnetică a informaţiei a crescut cu peste 8 ordine de mărime în ultimii 50
de ani, cu o rată de creştere anuală de peste 100% în ultimul deceniu. Acest progres a fost posibil
atât prin perfecţionarea mediilor de înregistrare, cât şi a posibilităţior de citire a informaţei. În
privinţa mediului de înregistrare, dimensiunea elementului magnetic ce înregistrează bit-ul de
informaţie a fost scăzută la zeci de nanometri, prin realizarea de structuri nanogranulare. Pentru
citirea stărilor de polarizare a elementelor magnetice (citirea biţilor) a fost necesară scăderea
dimensiunii elementelor de citire (capete de citire), la dimensiuni comparabile cu ale bitului
magnetic. Dispozitivul care a revoluţionat tehnologia de citire a informaţiei a fost valva de spin.
Manipularea conducţiei electrice prin intermediul spinului electronic reprezintă o nouă ramură a
electronicii, numită spintronică, iar structurile menţionate se numesc valve de spin.
Funcţionarea structurilor spintronice se bazează pe efecte cuantice şi de aceea, cel puţin una din
dimensiunile structurii trebuie să fie de ordin nanometric. Fenomenele cuantice implicate sunt: (i)
împrăştierea electronică dependentă de spin, care stă la baza efectului GMR (giant
magnetoresistance) şi respectiv (ii) tunelarea magnetică dependentă de spin, care stă la baza
efectului TMR (tunneling magnetoresistance).
Institutul Naţional de Cercetare Dezvoltare pentru Fizica Materialelor (INCDFM) este iniţiatorul
studiilor acestor sisteme la nivel naţional, având drept scop abordarea diferitelor aspecte de fizică
fundamentală şi aplicativă legate de valve de spin. Studiile se desfăşoară în colaborare cu parteneri
externi din UE, dar şi cu parteneri interni, în cadrul unor proiecte din programele PNCDI. Pe
parcursul ultimilor 5 ani au fost abordate două clase de valve de spin: valvele de spin tip multistrat
şi valvele de spin tip film compozit nanoglobular. În primul caz, transportul electronic se face prin
intermediul unei pături conductoare prinsă între 2 paturi feromagnetice (toate cu grosimi
nanometrice). Curentul prin structura, sau alternativ, rezistenţa structurii, este controlat prin
schimbarea configuraţiei magnetice a celor două paturi feromagnetice care mărginesc pătura
conductoare, sub influenţa unui câmp magnetic exterior, în condiţiile în care unul din straturile
feromagnetice este cuplat la un strat antiferomagnetic (Fig. 1).

nm) şi AF=Fe-Mn şi Ir-Mn (grosime 15-40 nm).
Cel de al doilea tip de sistem implică prezenţa unor nanogrăunţi magnetici dispersaţi quasi-uniform
într-un film conductor. Prin aplicarea unui câmp magnetic exterior, momentele magnetice ale
nanogrăunţilor, iniţial orientate aleator, devin orientate în lungul câmpului. Datorită interacţiei
spinilor electronilor cu momentele magnetice, curentul poate fi controlat prin trecerile activate de
câmp între cele două configuraţii magnetice distincte (momente orientate aleator versus momente
orientate în lungul câmpului). Este evident că performanţele unor structuri atât de complexe depind,
pe de o parte, de configuraţiile magnetice ale sistemului şi, pe de altă parte, de mecanismele de
conducţie electronică şi de împrăştiere dependentă de spin. În vederea optimizării sistemelor pentru
aplicaţiile dorite, toate aceste aspecte trebuie studiate în întreaga lor interconectivitate. În acest
sens, Laboratorul de Magnetism a Stării Condensate din INCDFM posedă un sistem integrat de
caracterizare, unic la nivel naţional, prin care sunt îmbinate metode de investigare (magnetometrie
şi efect Kerr magneto-optic) a proprietăţilor magnetice ale acestor sisteme, cu metode de
investigare a interacţiunilor magnetice locale prin spectroscopie Mossbauer cu electroni de
conversie şi cu metode de caracterizare a fenomenelor de conducţie dependente de spin (Fig. 2).
Configuraţii de valve de spin tip multistrat, respectiv tip film compozit nanoglobular, sunt preparate
atât prin tehnici de depunere în descărcare de radiofrecvenţă, cât şi prin tehnici de descărcare în
plasmă. Modificarea configuraţiilor magnetice sub influenţa câmpului este studiată din punct de
vedere structural şi compoziţional. Folosindu-se tehnica păturii trasoare, care constă în îmbogăţirea
în izotopul stabil de 57Fe a unei pături ultrasubţiri plasate la interfaţa de interes, sunt studiate prin
Spectroscopie Mossbauer cu electroni de conversie atât configuraţiile de spin la interfaţă, cât şi
fenomenele de interdifuzie atomică, cu rezoluţii ce coboară la nivelul stratului atomic (fracţiuni de
nanometru). Studiul efectelor de magnetoconducţie, corelat cu observarea configuraţiilor magnetice
locale care controlează împrăştierea electronică dependentă de spin, permite designul de valve de
spin optimizate, cu parametrii de magnetoconducţie solicitaţi de diverse aplicaţii practice.

Vizita în cadrul laboratoarelor Institutului Naţional de Cercetare Dezvoltare în Fizica Materialelor
(INCDFM) creează oricui o nouă viziune asupra lumii înconjurătoare şi a modului în care omul
poate controla noile materiale - la nivel atomic. Aici ies în evidenţă câteva dotări unice în această
parte a Europei şi entuziasmul cu care noua conducere vrea să creeze o imagine internaţională
institutului - prin realizări din venituri proprii, atrase cu echipa şi dotările de vârf actuale.
La Institutul Naţional de Cercetare Dezvoltare pentru Fizica Materialelor (INCDFM) se măsoară
capacitatea de stocare de hidrogen a diferitelor materiale, scopul final fiind “o autonomie mult mai
bună şi siguranţa viitoarelor automobile cu motor pe hidrogen”, arată Dr. Florin Vasiliu, director
ştiinţific.
Controlul materialelor la nivel nano
Spectroscopia optică permite controlul caracteristicilor finale ale materialelor prin controlul
nanometric al formării structurii acestora.
Laboratorul de Spectroscopie dielectrică are echipamente foarte noi şi analizează diferite tipuri de
ceramică, sticlă, compuşi intermetalici ş.a.. Aici se află temperatura exactă la care au loc anumite
transformări pozitive în noi compoziţii metalice, optimizându-se procesul de obţinere.
De la ”hârtia electronică” la maşini fără praf
Institutul are aparatură care depune straturi subţiri de substanţe biocompatibile pe diferite
transplanturi care devin astfel uşor acceptate de organizmul pacientului. Se obţin şi structuri oLED
(organic LED), uşor de realizat, ieftine şi ecologice, folosite în noile televizoare, dar şi în alte
aplicaţii cum ar fi afişajele foarte subţiri şi flexibile - viitoarele ziare pe “hârtie electronică”.
Nanotuburile de carbon folosite în circuite electronice microscopice, care duc la miniaturizarea
diferitelor componente electronice; detectorii de infraroşu, vopseaua (auto) care nu lasă murdăria să
se depună şi parbrizele la care nu aderă apa sunt rezultate ale cercetării INCDFM care, în momentul
aplicării, ne vor face viaţa mult mai uşoară.
Vizibilitate internaţională prin resurse proprii
“La sfârşitul lui 2008 preluam postul cu gândul de a transforma institutul într-un centru de
excelenţă la nivel european. Din păcate, acum suntem apelaţi în consorţii internaţionale mai mult pe
baza relaţiilor interpersonale. Avem cercetători cunoscuţi internaţional, dar instituţia nu este foarte
vizibilă. Noi vrem să fim recunoscuţi internaţioanal ca institut. Dorim certificare ISO pentru a putea
elibera apoi certificate de calitate pentru probele care ne vin la analiză şi pentru a atrage noi
venituri”, arată dr. Lucian Pintilie, directorul general al INCDFM (foto).
Institutul are deja echipamente de top, unele unice în această zonă a Europei, dar are nevoie de
stabilizarea personalului prin păstrarea oamenilor valoroşi. De aceea se vrea eliminarea dependenţei
de bugetul de stat şi creşterea ponderii veniturilor extrabugetare prin încurajarea contactelor cu
mediul de afaceri.
Veniturile aduse din dezvoltarea de servicii noi vor fi reinvestite în oameni şi în dezvoltare, după
cum am aflat de la dr. Lucian Pintilie:“Suntem deschişi către sectorul economic şi oferim firmelor
servicii care le-ar rezolva probleme concrete. Dorim stabilitatea veniturilor angajaţilor pentru ca
aceştia să nu mai plece la stagii de lucru în afară, pentru bani. În viitor vom avea şi un departament
de comunicare pentru crearea unei imagini coerente a institutului”.

Surface Science Facility

This presentation aims at promoting a new research area in Romania: surface
science. Researches in this area have interdisciplinary character, "including all interfaces
between solid bodies, polymers, biomaterials, nanostructures, soft matter, liquids, gases
and/or vacuum" (definition taken from the site of the journal Surface Science [1]). Surface
science is an actual very high interest area, as demonstrated by the following Table,
representing searches performed on the Thomson ISI Web of Science on July 14th
, 2008,
concerning only 2008 publications.

One may observe that, with the exception of broad areas implying everything
related to applications, to electricity, mechanics, and bio- systems, surface science lies in a
top position, even above everything related to physics, chemistry, quantum phenomena,
and theory.
The 2007 Nobel prizes for Physics and Chemistry were awarded to Albert Fert for
the discovery of giant magnetoresistance, respectively to Gerhard Ertl, for his studies on
chemical processes at surfaces of solid bodies. Fert's most popular article (over 3600
citations) reports the results of the investigation of Fe(001)/Cr(001) superlattices, prepared
by surface science methods [2]. Ertl's career is tightly connected to surface science (~ 160
papers in Surface Science, including the most cited one [3]).
The Romanian scientific community could not lie outside this highly interesting
area. Recently, a new setup (see the Photos attached) was comissioned in the National
Institute of Materials Physics for preparation and complex characterization of surfaces and
interfaces. It consists mainly in three units, the Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) chamber,
the Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) chamber, and the spin- and angle-resolved
photoelectron spectroscopy (SARPES) chamber. Additional chambers are the load-lock for
sample introduction and a sample preparation and storage facility (SPS). All four
chambers: MBE, SPS, STM and SARPES operate in ultrahigh vacuum (UHV), base
pressure 1-2 x 10-10
mbar. The techniques employed are:
In the MBE chamber:
a) preparation facilities:
- sample heating up to 1200 °C; cooling down to 77 K;
- evaporation from a 4-target e-beam evaporator;
- evaporation from a high temperature (2000 °C);
- controlled gas adsorption and desorption;
- monitoring of thicknesses using a quartz microbalance.
b) in situ characterization:
- LEED (Low Energy Electron Diffraction)
- RHEED (Reflection High Energy Electron Spectroscopy)
- AES (Auger Electron Spectroscopy)
- Quadrupole Mass Spectroscopy (thermal induced desorption, photodesorption)
In the STM chamber:
- sample preparation stage (heating, ion sputtering);
- tip preparation (ion sputtering);
- variable temperature (77 - 453 K) scanning tunneling microscopy;
- scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS).
In the SARPES chamber:
- conventional X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy using a dual (Al/Mg K ) anode;
- high resolution XPS using a monochromatized dual (Al K /Ag L ) source;
- ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS);
- angle-resolved XPS: X-ray photoelectron diffraction (XPD);
- angle-resolved UPS (ARUPS): band structure, Fermi surface, etc.;
- spin-resolved UPS: spin-polarized density of states;
- angle- and spin-resolved UPS: spin-polarized band structure;
- programmable ion sputtering: depth profiling;
- flood gun for sample neutralization;
- electron gun for AES.
Since the commissioning, requests from external users to beneficiate of this national
multi-technique facility increases exponentially. In two months of operation of the MBE
chamber alone, two papers were written and submitted to ISI journals. The first paper
including XPS results was sent to Topics in Catalysis just the day after the comissioning of
the SARPES.
The SARPES facility was integrally supported from the infrastructure POS-CCE
Project of NIMP "Euro-Regional Centre for Advanced Materials, for Surfaces and
Interfaces", Project-No. 141/2009, acronym CEUREMAVSU.

Advanced technique for advanced materials

As a part of the project 141 POS CCE Axis II, project financed by the European
Commission and aiming at creating an euro-regional center for studying advanced
materials, surfaces and interfaces , beneficiary National Institute of Materials Physics, a
near field microscope/microspectrometer was installed. The near-field scanning optical
micro-photoluminescence spectrometer is a new kind of micro-spectrometer for
observation of photoluminescence and fluorescence spectra at sub-wavelength high-
spatial resolution. Spectra and spectrally resolved mapped images can be obtained from
single semiconductor quantum dots and wires at better than 100 nm spatial resolution.
Metals, semiconductors, plastics and biological materials can be examined and sample
preparation is unnecessary.
Images can be generated by both topographically (optical contrast and probe
feedback) and PL emission spectral mapping from the near-UV to NIR wavelength range.
The microscope can actually map a sample within the area of a single spot with high
spectral resolution.
The computer-controlled optics integrates the scanning probe, laser and
spectrometer / detector in a complete, stand-alone system. Peltier cooled CCD detector
allows rapid instrument start-up and high sensitivity. The system allows also ultra-low
temperature (~5 K) being the first commercial helium cryostat equipped NSOM system.
The aperture fiber probe near-field system allows various optical arrangements for
illuminating and collecting the light from the sample. High-throughput probes with a
range of apertures are available as standard.

Optical System
Aperture probe scanning near-field optical micro-spectrometer. Integrated
instrument includes probe system, illumination optics (including laser source), single or
dual switchable-grating Raman spectrometer with Rayleigh rejection holographic notch-
filter and cooled CCD detector.
Optical system allows computer (software) switchable illumination, collection, and
illumination - collection modes.
Probes
Optical fibre probes produced by chemical etching, with a range of standard tip apertures
available. Illumination apertures of 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 nm
Excitation laser
A variety of laser sources, e.g. diode (785 nm), He-Ne (632.8 nm), Nd-YAG / SHG (532
nm) can be used with the system. At this moment a 100 mW, green light 532 nm laser is
available.
Spectrometer / Detector
The detector employs a dual, software-switchable grating spectrometer allowing dual-
resolution modes or optimal matching of excitation laser to the grating dispersion. Standard
holographic grating for 532 nm excitation has 1,800 gr / mm with 600 gr / mm available.
The microspectrometer represents a technique complementary to the existing ones
ranging from optical spectroscopy to electron microscopy and X ray diffraction. Besides
the traditional Academia partners of the institute, the infrastructure is available to high tech
enterprises, which aim at high added value production. The infrastructure is backed up by
personnel with high qualification and with the necessary scientific and technique expertise.

NEW FACILITIES FOR RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF ORGANIC
MATERIALS AND BIOMATERIALS

1. Thin film evaporation system for organic materials research
“SPECTROS”

SPECTROS deposition system is designed for devices fabrication research of
OLED/PLED materials used in display and lightning applications.
It can be utilized for the preparation of pure and doped organic thin films, metallic
thin films and organic single/multi layers heterostructures with applications in the fields of
organic solar cells; OLED; organic electronics (organic TFT); organic sensors including
applications in transparent and flexible electronics and opto-electronics.
Our “SPECTROS” equipment features a computer-controlled single-chamber
system with integrated mask shelves, 8 shuttered low temperature organic sources and 3
shuttered metals sources. A complete organic device can be fabricated without interruption
or operator intervention. The computer and software allow the selection of a standard
procedure, the writing of new work recipes and the activation of the components of the
system. The system uses a sample carrier for square glass/silicon plates measuring 100
100 mm and 25 25 mm.
The deposition system is connected with a workstation for handling the samples in
controlled atmosphere. The glove-box has a main and mini ante-chamber, vacuum pump,
gas purification system, high sensibility sensors for humidity (<1 ppm H2O) and oxygen
(<1 ppm O2) and an adapter for the attachment to the SPECTROS unit.
Main characteristics:
1. High vacuum pumping consists of a CTI8 1500l/s Cryopump roughed by an
Edwards XDS10 scroll pump.
2. Deposition Chamber base pressure less than 1×10-7
mbar. 3. Helium leak rate better than 1×10
-9 mbar l/s;
4. Pump down time of the complete system less than 4 hours to achieve the base
pressure of less than 5×10-7
mbar (after opening the system to the glove box
with controlled atmosphere for 5 min);
5. Manual and automatic mask and substrate transfer and exchange in the
deposition chamber cassette via LRP and Z shift systems;
6. Deposition techniques are: Thermal evaporation of organics, including metals
and thermal evaporation of small molecule organics
7. Each source rate has a stability of ±5% at a rate of 10 Å/s for a period of no
longer than 1 hour using high purity Alq3;
8. Film thickness uniformity for both metals and organics better than ±5% across
the 100 mm square substrate; the thickness is controlled through the control of
the temperature of the sources and the uniformity is ensured by the deposition
geometry and rotation of the substrate;
7. Reproducibility of the deposition: for 3 successive Alq3 depositions the
thickness variation in the middle of the substrates is ±30Å;
8. Host/dopant ratio control up to 100-1 with an accuracy of 0.01 nm/s;
9. Temperature stability of the low temperature organic source is ±1 oC;
10. Metal sources rate stability better than ±5%;
11. The safe operation is controlled by interlocks;
12. Deposition is completely automatic using deposition recipes.

2. Multiview 4000 SNOM/SPM System
Near field scanning optical microscope integrated with Atomic Force Microscope and
Confocal Microscope

“Near-Field scanning optical microscope” is a high performance optical system that
combines the advantages of SNOM and SPM and it is adequate for the optical
characterization of organic, biologic and inorganic samples offering quick image of the
optical properties with resolution below the diffraction limit.
SNOM is the only way to get sub-wavelength optical information from a sample,
and as it is usually combined with AFM the optical information can be easily correlated
with topological information with a minimal preparation of the sample. NSOM is able to
provide information about: changes in reflectivity, transparency, index of
refraction/polarization, etc. The resolution of an NSOM measurement is defined by the size
of the used point light source (probe) (typically 50-100 nm).
The full dual microscope, as the main part of the system, allows both upright and
inverted fluorescent, reflection and transmission microscopic research. Each mode must be
operated either independently or simultaneously, with rotable microscope and two
fluorescence illuminators, up gradable to confocal functionality. Controller and Software
accept different modes of operation offering image and line profiles display in real time.
3D NanoLithography Software and hardware package assures the correlation of the
position of the AFM sensor for chemical removal from region as small as 100 nm and
writing nanolithographyc patterns with NanoFountain Pen.
The system can be used in material science, nanotechnology (nano-photonics and
nano-optics), biology, medicine (detection of the most minuscule surface structures of
transparent and opaque samples). Using fluorescence techniques it is possible even the
single molecule detection. The confocal facility has an important application in medicine
offering the possibility to image the cells and tissues in evolution and the inverted mode
operation of the microscope in the nondestructive real time investigation of the cell
cultures. Other applications are in 3D imaging of the living cells (blood cells, human
chromosomes, DNA) and imaging intracellular ionic concentration alteration in specific
region of a cell during cellular transformation. The 3D NanoFountain Pen can be used to
write molecules in nanometric domain.

delivery and removing at the nanometer level;

Magnetron sputtering equipment with in situ surface analysis techniques
for fabrication of nanostructured materials

This equipment was acquired within the Project No. 3 / 2007 – 2009 that was
financed by the Infrastructure Program “CAPACITATI ”, National RDI Plan.
This acquisition aimed the fabrication of nanostructured materials and
nanostructures (including multilayered structures), using the magnetron sputtering method.
It is provided with in situ surface analysis techniques, namely the Auger electron
spectroscopy (AES), the low energy electron diffraction (LEED).

Complex system for electrical characterization

The experimental system developed in the last years serves to measure magneto-
transport, electrical, electro-optical, photoelectric, ferroelectric and microwave properties,
as well as to determine the main characteristics of the electrically active defects generated
during the growth, implantation, processing or irradiation of the materials and test devices.
Two Janis cryostats, each with 4 optical windows: one for the temperature range
from 20K to 475 K; the other for the temperature range between 77K and 800K. Both
cryostats are connected to turbo-molecular vacuum pumps.
Gratting Monochromator Oriel, wavelengths 200-6000 nm, with chopper for
modulating UV-Vis-NIR light up to 1 kHz, for photoelectric signal measurements.
Keithley electrometers (2) with incorporated sources for voltages up to 1000 V,
allowing to measure currents as low as 10 fA.
Agilent and Hioki RC bridges for capacitance measurements in the frequency range
from 20 Hz to 5 MHz.
Probe-station CPX-VF equipped with 4 probe arms, each with 3-axis adjustments
and ±5° theta planarization, and a 25 kOe vertical field superconducting magnet. The
temperature range for the probe station is from 4.2 K to 400 K and the measuring
frequencies from DC to 67 GHz. The system can operate with external equipment, such as
oscilloscopes, RC bridges, electrometers, etc.
TF Analyzer 2000 for measuring properties of non-linear dielectrics such as:
Hysteresis, Fatigue, Retention, Static hysteresis, Imprint, Leakage current. The system can
operate with external equipment, such as oscilloscopes, temperature units, probing stations,
high voltage amplifiers, etc.
The last two characterization facilities were purchased in 2009 and were fully
supported from the infrastructure POS-CCE Project of NIMP "Euro-Regional Centre for
Advanced Materials, for Surfaces and Interfaces", Project-No. 141/2009, acronym
CEUREMAVSU.
HERA-DLTS HE-1030 and TSC Systems for detection and characterization of
electrically active defects in materials and structures. The electrically active defects
generated during the growth, implantation, processing or irradiation are those with direct
impact on the electrical properties of the materials, multilayer structures and complex
devices. Their detection and characterization is essential for improving the growth and
processing technologies. The system is sensitive to defects generated in concentration
down to 108 cm
-3 and it is a unique facility in Romania. The HERA-DLTS HE-1030 system
was installed in 2009 and was fully supported from the Core program contract 45N/2009.

Gas Mixing Station – flow system Sensor Chamber
The flow system is completely computer controlled. Only stainless steel,
Viton, Teflon and glass are used for parts in contact to the gas. The system has 8
gas flow channels and can be operated in 2 different modes: linear or switch mode.
Every channel of the flow system consists of a mass flow controller (MCF), a
vaporizer and two valves and can be operated with gas from a bottle (high purity:
5.0, 6.0) or with vapors obtained from liquids using vaporizers. The maximum total
flow is 200 ml/min. The valves completely separate the vaporizers from the rest of
the system if the flow through the channel is below an adjustable threshold.
The computer of the flow system is operated in DOS mode. In this mode the flow
controller software „Poseidon“controls the system via a D/A plug-in card (PCL
727), an A/D-card (PCL 812) in real-time. An additional IEEE-488 bus interface
card is supported by Poseidon and is used for communication with measurement
equipment e.g. Keithley DMM 199 Multimeter/Keithley 6517A Electrometer.
Measurement data are recorded and displayed in a graphic surface and saved into a
file by Poseidon.
The Valve Control unit contains the electronics for steering the valves. This
steering can be made in automatic or manual mode. Every valve can be set
individually to on, off or automatic mode with the switch on the front panel.
Sensor chamber can measure 10 sensors simultaneously.
