Ranger Challenge

Incorporating elements of both core requirements and electives of the Venturing

Ranger Award, such as First Aid, Land Navigation, Communications, Shooting

Sports, and Wilderness Survival, the Ranger Challenge will DEFINITELY push your Venturer out of their “comfort zone”.

Scenario

The United States had been invaded. Invaders have infiltrated up the Rappahannock river and are deploying small 2 man teams to commit terrorist acts, harass local populations, execute biological warfare, and interdict economical and support infrastructure. Venturing Rangers, because of their special skill set, have been asked by the United States President, to act (much in the same way as the home guard of old) on behalf of their country to stop these incursions, and are authorized to take whatever means necessary to protect the life, liberty, and freedoms of the American Citizens in their areas of responsibility.

Scenario Flow• Venturers arrive for inbrief• Venturers placed into 2 man teams (involuntarily)• Venturers start the lane to complete course while being

timed• Points are deducted or added based on high or low time• Points are deducted based on completing or not

completing tasks• Some tasks are non-negotiable, and venturers must

repeat until successful at task• Venturers will NOT know what the tasks are until

reaching that phase of the course – Its all a surprise! So what CAN we tell you?

Course glimpses

• Using pump action 2mm air rifles, Venturers will have to engage varying targets on the course

• Use Land Navigation Skills to reach certain points

• Use knowledge of First Aid to treat civilian or terrorist injuries (need them alive for interrogation)

• may require knowledge of knots/lashings from Wilderness Survival

Course glimpses

• Course is timed, so speed through varying terrain will test venturers physical fitness

• Additional course challenges may include– Identification of friend or foe– Actions to take if rifle has a malfunction– Solving quadratic equations (just joking!!)– Other unknown devious plot devices!
