People around the world are living longer but many are also living sackers
lives for longer, according to a study of all major disease and injuries is
188 countries. General health has improved worldwide because of
significant progress against infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDs and
malaria in the past decade. But healthy life expectancy has not increased
as much. So, people are living more years with illness and disability.
The world has made great progress in health, but now the challenge is to
invest in finding more effective ways of preventing or treating the major
causes of illness and disability.
#
Amongst the countries in South Asia, Bangladesh is one of the few
countries where female employment has increased in the last decade. The
female employment rate has increased by 10% between 2003 and 2016.
While acknowledging Bangladesh’s achievements, women are still in the
minority in the workplace as they represent only 36% of the workforce.
There is a need for a change in employment laws and policies to ensure
that women have equality of opportunity to access jobs in all sectors.
Reducing the wage gap between man and women would also help create
better equality.

substance change with temperature?
7. How does convection current occur?
8. How can an energy efficient house be made?
9. What are the properties of solids, liquids and gases?
10. What is specific heat? What is its equation?
11. What is latent heat? Draw a heating curve of ice from -40 C
temperature to a water stream at 150C temperature.
12. State Boyle’s and Pressure law? Write down its equation Chapter Question
1. Draw a ray diagram to show how a ray of light can be turned through 100 using two plane mirrors. Mark on your diagram a value for the angle of
incidence at each of the mirrors.
2. a. Draw a diagram to show the path of a ray of light travelling from air into a
rectangular glass black at an angle of about 45. b. Show the path of the ray as it emerges from the block.
c. Explain why the ray changes direction each time it crosses the air/glass
boundary.
d. Draw a second diagram showing a ray that travels through the block
without its direction changing.
3. In an experiment to measure the refractive index of a type of glass, the angle
of refraction was found to be 31 when the angle of incidence was 55. a. Calculate the refractive index of the glass.
b. What would the angle of refraction be for a ray with an angle of incidence
of 45. c. Calculate the critical angle for the glass.
4. a. Draw a diagram to show how a prism can create a rainbow of colors.
b. Explain how these colors are produced by the prism.
5. Draw three ray diagrams to show what happens to a ray of light travelling in a
glass block in the following situations. It hits a face of the block at an angle:
a. less than critical angle
b. equal to the critical angle
c. greater than the critical angle.
6. a. What is meant by ‘total internal reflection of light’ and under what
conditions does it occur?
b. Draw a diagram to show how total internal reflection takes place in a
prismatic periscope.
c. Give one advantage of using prisms in a periscope rather than plane
mirrors.
d. Draw a second diagram to show how a prism could be used to turn a ray of
light through 180. Give one application of a prism used in this way.
7. a. Explain why a ray of light entering an optical fiber is unable to escape
through the sides of the fiber. Include a ray diagram in your explanation.
b. Explain how doctors use optical fibers to see inside the body.
c. Name one other use of optical fibers.
8. The diagram shows refraction of a ray of light as it passes from medium 1 to
medium 2.
a. Is the light slowing down or speeding up?
b. Measure the angle of incidence and refraction on the diagram, and
c. Use them to calculate the refractive index, 1n2.
9. Refraction of waves in shown. The wavelength in the faster medium
before refraction, is 1.6 × bigger than the wavelength in the slower
medium, after refraction.
a. As the frequency is the same, how many times faster is the wave
travelling before refraction compared with after refraction.
b. What is the refractive index for this refraction?
10. The speed of light in vacuum and in two different glasses is given in
this table.
vacuum 3.00 × 108
Flint glass 1.86 × 108
Crown glass 1.97 × 108
a. Calculate the absolute refractive indexes of flint glass and crown
glass.
b. Calculate the relative refractive index for light going from crown
glass of flint glass.
c. Calculate the critical angles for light going from flint glass to crown
glass.
11. A spear-fisherman is about to catch a fish:
a. On a copy of the diagram, draw a ray of light going form the fish to
the fisherman’s eye.
b. Use the diagram to explain to explain why the fisherman knows that
he must not aim directly at where he sees the fish if he is to catch it.
Should he aim high of low?
6. Chemistry
7. Biology Chapter: 3 & 10.
Solve the specification related solution:
2.51 understand why simple, unicellular organisms can rely on diffusion for
movement of substances in and out of the cell
2.52 understand the need for a transport system in multicellular organisms.
2.59 describe the composition of the blood: red blood cells, white blood
cells, platelets and plasma
2.60 understand the role of plasma in the transport of carbon dioxide,
digested food, urea, hormones and heat energy
2.61 understand how adaptations of red blood cells make them suitable for
the transport of oxygen, including shape, the absence of a nucleus and the
presence of haemoglobin
2.62 understand how the immune system responds to disease using white
blood cells, illustrated by phagocytes ingesting pathogens and lymphocytes
releasing antibodies specific to the pathogen
2.63B understand how vaccination results in the manufacture of memory
cells, which enable future antibody production to the pathogen to occur
sooner, faster and in greater quantity
2.64B understand how platelets are involved in blood clotting, which
prevents blood loss and the entry of micro-organisms 2.65 describe the
structure of the heart and how it functions
2.66 explain how the heart rate changes during exercise and under the
influence of adrenaline
2.67 understand how factors may increase the risk of developing coronary
heart disease
2.68 understand how the structure of arteries, veins and capillaries relate to
their function
2.69 understand the general structure of the circulation system, including
the blood vessels to and from the heart and lungs, liver and kidney
