CHAIRMAN

HON. SHRI RAVINDRA MANE

It is a matter of great pleasure and

satisfaction that RMP has come up with the

first issue of the Departmental Newsletter. I

believe that the newsletter will serve as a

window through which the complete profile

of the academic and co-curricular activities,

achievements and progress made during the

stipulated period can be viewed.

We at RMP are committed to

creating an ambience for nurturing

innovation, creativity and excellence in our

students. We aim to prepare the young

engineers and managers to confidently and

competently face the challenges of

intensifying competition by imparting high

quality technical and managerial education

coupled with appropriate training and wide

exposure to the state-of-art practices. Our

educational programs lay emphasis on all

round personality development and also in

inculcating human values and professional

ethics which help our students become more

human and socially responsible to lead a

meaningful life.

Best wishes for the success and bright

future in all their endeavors.

PRINCIPAL

I am very happy to note that the

Department of Mechanical Engineering of

Rajendra mane Polytechnic (Ambav-

Devrukh) is releasing its first Newsletter

enumerating the various activities and

achievements of their faculty and students.

Mechanical Engineering is a versatile and

evergreen branch of engineering. Mechanical

engineer can work in various fields like

automotive system, airspace engineering,

design engineering, dynamic system and

control, power plant engineering, etc. and

most importantly in software field also. The

students and faculties of department are

always proactive in taking initiatives in

technical, cultural and social events. I hope

that this newsletter will serve the purpose of

reflecting all activities of department and it

will inspire others to do their best.

I congratulate all the students who

have put their efforts in bringing this first

newsletter issue and also appreciate HOD

and all faculty members for motivating their

students towards this fulfillment. I wish each

one of them in the Department success in all

their endeavors.

HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

Prof. G U. DONGARE

Firstly, warm welcome to

Mechanical engineering Department.

Mechanical Engineers play a significant role

in the design and manufacturing of all of the

products and systems essential to everyday

modern life: things like home appliances,

bikes, iPods, electric power generation,

recreational equipment, wheelchairs,

airplanes, robots, industrial equipment to

name a few. We have a team of dedicated

and experienced faculty, driving the

department towards excellence in teaching.

The Department organizes Seminars,

workshops on wide-ranging topics every

year. We have a very good Industry-Institute

interaction and we organize Industrial Visits

for students periodically to provide an

opportunity for the students to interact with

working professionals from industry. We

believe in holistic development of students

and aim at identifying the hidden skills,

developing the personality and inculcating

human values to mould our students into

technically-qualified professionals ready to

face the competitive world.

DEPARTMENTAL LABS

Mechanical Engineering, being a core branch of General Engineering, we are proud to possess state of art

laboratories. These labs are well equipped with actual experimental set-up, models and charts for the

students to have hands on experience apart from theoretical knowledge. In order to meet dynamic

requirements of industry, the advanced lab like CAD/CAM lab have been set-up to impart latest

engineering knowledge & training to students. The department regularly conducts certificate programs for

Auto CAD & new design strategies.

THERMAL ENGINEERING LAB

Thermal Engineering Lab consists of various Boiler

models, Boiler mountings and accessories, Experimental

setup of Thermal conductivity, Stefan Boltzmann Law,

Heat exchangers, Bomb Calorimeter etc.

COMPUTER AIDED DRAFTING LAB

CAD Lab consists of about 20 personal computers. The

computers are fed with software’s like AutoCAD,

CATIA. The Lab also has PLC trainer, LCD projector

and Printer for plotting drawings.

COMPUTER NUMERICALLY

CONTROLLED LAB

Commonly known as CNC Lab. CNC machines

perform multiple functions particularly manufacturing

processes simultaneously by feeding a computer

program.

MESA 2016-17

6 MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT VOLUME 1, ISSUE 1,2016-17

FLUID MECHANICS LAB

Fluid Mechanics Lab consists of various types of

turbines, Pressure gauges, Venturimeter setup, Major

losses in pipe setup, Setup of notch sensitivity,

Compressors etc.

POWER ENGINEERING LAB

Power Engineering Lab consists of 2 stage reciprocating

Air compressor test rig, Vapour compression test rig,

and Ice plant test rig.

WORKSHOP

Workshop consists of Lathe machines, milling machines,

grinding machines, welding section, Smithy shop for

forging operations, carpentry section and so on.

NANOTECHNOLOGY

Nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter

and supermoleculer scale. The earliest,

widespread description of nanotechnology

referred to the particular technological goal of

precisely manipulating atoms and molecules for

fabrication of macro scale products, also now

referred to as molecular Nanotechnology.

Nanotechnology is the engineering of functional

systems at molecular scale. In its original sense,

nanotechnology refers to the projected ability to

construct items from the bottom up, using

techniques and tools being developed today to

make complete, high performance products.

Application and Approaches

Nano medicine: - It ranges from the medical

applications of Nano-material and biological

devices, to Nano electronic biosensors, and

even future applications such as biological

machines.

Nanotechnology is also used in cosmetics,

sports, clothes; nanotech filters which

remove hazardous microbes and chemicals

from drinking water.

Functional Approaches: - Synthetic chemical

methods can also be used to create synthetic

molecular motors, such as in Nano cars.

NANO ROBOTICS WORLD’S TINIEST ENGINE

Scientists have created the world's tiniest practical

engines, and these light-powered machines could

one day power microscopic robots small enough

to enter living cells. As, technological innovations

make devices smaller and smaller, scientists are

developing machines that are only the size of

complex molecules — nanometers, or billionths

of a meter, in scale. In comparison, the average

human hair is about 100,000 nanometers wide.

The new engines are made of tiny particles of

gold only 60 nanometers in diameter. These

particles are connected to one another by a

water-laden gel made of a heat-sensitive

compound. When heated by a green laser to

more than 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees

Celsius), the gel expels water, contracting within

a microsecond and forcing the gold Nano-

particles into tight clusters about 400 nanometers

wide. When the engine is cooled, the gel takes

on water and expands, and the gold Nano-

particles are strongly and quickly pushed apart,

like a spring, the researchers explained. The

devices are also energy-efficient, bio-compatible

and cost-effective to manufacture, the scientists

added.
