1. Who are YOU as an entrepreneur?

2. How do people experience your brand?

3. What is the essence of you and your brand?

After you’ve had time to journal on these questions, share your responses with a collaboration partner or business coach. Then consider:

What is the Essence of Your Brand?• How do you speak it?

• How do you embody it?

• How do people experience it?

• What are the colors and imagery that represent the essence of your brand? How does your wardrobe reflect the essence of your brand? These choices create “feeling” the essence of your brand. Remember, people don’t fall in love faces, they fall in love with souls. Let your soul shine!

It starts with a simple question. Who are your dream clients?

Can you bring a particular person to mind that fits within this market group? Define the broader market and then pick a single person who you can really focus your message to!

Finally, we end with one more very important question: Where do you find your ideal clients? You have to know where to find your clients!

What are their urgent wants and needs?

Where do they get information? What types of media do they consume?

What makes them cry?

Where do they live?

How much do they gross?

What are their favorite things? What do they drive?

What do they eat?

What do they smell like?

Where do they spend their time?

What makes them feel lit up?

What do they value?

How do they make a difference in the world?

Speaking Your Clients’ Love LanguageNow that you’ve got your dream client in your mind, let’s start to get into their head space… and more importantly their heart space.

Yes, you do have understand the challenges and the pains that are keeping them awake at night and the emotions associated with that, but even more importantly, you have to understand what it is that they really desire in their lives.

This is how you start to speak their love language.

The chart on the next page is golden. Work through this chart with great care, and it can become the foundation of all your marketing messages and help you define a powerful content strategy.

The best way to begin to populate this chart is to have conversations with some of your ideal clients. Ask them:

• What are your biggest challenges that wake you in the middle of the night (as it pertains to the problems you help solve)? For example, if you are a business coach, ask them about the biggest challenges in their business. If you are a life coach, ask about the biggest challenges in their life right now.

• Then ask how they feel about those problems and challenges. Listen for the emotions that are associated with those challenges.

• Finally, ask what it is they are aspiring to create… to make happen… to accomplish. This is the golden part of this exercise. For you are getting into their heart here… into their biggest desires.

I recommend that you start with some one on one conversations to gain a baseline of information for this exercise. Then develop a survey and start to expand the reach of your data gathering.

The first time I used this technique, I set a goal of surveying 100 women in my target market. The information that came back confirmed that I was on track with my messaging, and more importantly, because I asked these questions in open response style, the respondents use their own words – the words that described their challenge, the words that described their emotions and the words that gave me insights into what they aspire to.

That is how you begin to speak your clients’ love language. By asking, then listening. Simple and powerful.

The heart of your messagingNow consider how you help your clients achieve their biggest desires? Consider why they will urgently want you offer? What has them saying, YES, I need this and here is my money! The clues lie in the 3rd column of your Speak Your Clients’ Love Language Chart.”

Why are you YOUniquely special for helping them achieve these values. Leverage your essence of you to build upon this statement?

What are the results and benefits you will help them achieve?

After you write Results and Benefits, go back and add a statement to each one that speaks to your client that says… “so you can…” and expand upon the result and benefit. This is a more solid statement of results and benefits. See if you can expand the benefit statements one level deeper… and even a second layer deeper

NOTE: While Aspirational Marketing is going to pull mostly from the third column of your “Speak Your Clients’ Love Language Chart,” I have found that using 1-2 questions from pains and emotions column as an opener in your copy can be very powerful. They will relate to the emotions they have shared with you… but the trick is to quickly move into painting the picture of what is possible from their desires. You want them to feel a big “YES, that is what I want!”

How you Speak About Your BusinessMany elevator speeches sound canned and most are focused in the pain. Wouldn’t you love to speak into your clients’ desires instead? Remember, we’re about raising the bar on how we resonate in the world… and how our ideal clients want to feel! Here are a few ways to approach how you speak about your business?

• Elevator Speech Approach #1: TRADITIONAL WITH A POSITIVE BEND

– I help ______ (ideal clients – in a name that they associate with themselves) ___________________(to what do they aspire) by ________________________ (how).

– Example: I help female entrepreneurs fall in love with their business again by tuning into their YOUnique super powers.

• Elevator Speech Approach # 2: BELIEF

– I believe ______ (the passion that fuels your business). I am a ________________ (essence words). I help ______ (ideal clients) _____________________ (what) , so they can ________ (biggest desire).

– Example: I believe women’s voices matter. I am a storyteller, a community builder and a coach for women. I help my clients raise up their voice, their brand and their business so they can make the impact they want to in the world.

• Elevator Speech Approach #3: SIMPLE ONE LINER

– I help ___ (ideal clients) ________ (biggest desire) .

– Example: I help women discover their next chapter filled with passion and purpose.

• If you had one thing to say to the world – what would it be?

Your response to this last question is important. For this will be the foundation on which you will build your own unique thought leadership platform.

1) An opinion. For you to put a stake in the ground around an opinion that yours. 2) A Soundbite Hook. Something that memorable, short and repeatable. A good soundbite

has an edge to it, or an unexpected twist. It gives people an idea of what it is you stand for.

What is the message you want to be known for? This is the platform from which you’ll begin to build a content strategy. A Content Strategy consists of:

1) Message Map – a tool, which identifies your core central message and hook, and the supporting facts, stories and points that you would like your audience to learn.

2) A roadmap of messages that you might speak about, write about and communicate over the course of a year, to strategically connect with your ideal audience.

3) A list of where you want your message to be heard? What stages, what publications and more? How will you get your word out?

The good news is that marketing strategy to support putting your word out into the world is built from the inside out as well! I believe in aligning your marketing effort to your strengths and how you’re meant to make a difference in the world!
