Railway budget was being presented on25th February, 2011.

Railway¶s services are comparable to

emergency services, required all the time.rail transportation is vitally interlinked withthe economic development of the country.

I propose to set up a metro coach factory on the land purchasedfrom willing sellers at singur/adjacent polba.

Imphal, Manipur will soon be connected to the railway network.

Proposal of opening up a centre of excellence in software at

Darjeeling under the aegis of centre for railway information systemsSetting up of a railway industrial park through a joint venture

between Burn

Standard Co. Ltd. and SAIL has already been initiated in this Park.

A captive thermal power plant of 1,000 MW at Nabi nagar is at anadvance stage of construction.

A second thermal power plant of 1,320 MW capacity at Adra is inthe process of being set up.

� We are trying sincerely to ensure any incidents do not occur.

� Railway is passenger friendly, safe and a cheap mode of transport. Rail faresare close to one-fourth that of the road.\

� our recent trials with an improved version of ACD have met with success and itwill be commissioned on three zonal railways,

� The number of incidents at unmanned level crossings, has come down by 36%with the elimination of 1,500 unmanned crossings, construction of 172 R Bsand 240 RUBs/subways.

� I am now making an offer that whichever state ensures trouble-free train runningfor the whole year, shall be given two new trains and two projects as a special

package.

A project with IIT, Chennai on prototype manufacture of ultrasonic systems;

Partnership with Jadavpur University for development of new designs for rail steel bridges;

A collaborative study with IIT, Mumbai on the problem of corrosion of rails;

Measures to improve passenger

A new portal for e-ticketing by Centre for Railway Information

Systems (CRIS) is ready and will be launched shortly.

Provision of internet access on Howrah-Rajdhani Express as apilot project;

Introduction of advance booking of retiring rooms.

Extension of Rail Yatri Sevaks with modern trolleys to six more

stations:



Different facilities proposed

physically handicapped persons are not entitledfor concessions on Rajdhani and Shatabdi

trains. It is proposed to extend the concessionfacility to them in these trains also.

Press correspondents are now entitled to avail50% concession with family for two years.

At present the concession for senior citizens isextended to both men and women at 60 years of age. I propose to reduce this in case of women

to 58 years.

crore mark.

The expected perating Ratio is91.1%.

PSUs earning a net profit of `1,782 cr. These PSUs paid a

dividend ̀ 311.88 cr to the railways.

Few benefits proposed

In 2011-12, the covering around 1,000 kmare proposed to be electrified.

There is no increase in passenger faresproposed for this year.

Mobile vans for issuing e-tickets will beextended to government medical college

hospitals, High Courts, District Court,University campus, IT hubs, IITs and IIMs.
