Our rail products and services meet your needs both within and
outside the Sentinel competency framework.
Non PTS workers and staff are available to you across the
UK for any work being undertaken that requires trades and
labour, supervision, professional, technical or executive staff.
We’ll run our standard ‘Recruit’ service for all hires on your
general property and assets.

safety critical staff
supervisionThe rail sector will face a shortage of supervisory level operatives and
staff in the coming years and we will be helping to solve this problem
for our customers.
We can supply a wide range of operatives with supervisory skills
whether your needs are off or on the track. Our links to the wider civil
engineering marketplace means we can provide or transfer skills from
other parts of our portfolio for your off track work situations.
If we can’t fulfil your needs straight away, talk to us and our training
division will target specific supervisory operatives active elsewhere on
civils for re-training.
On track we have a nationwide labour force of NCCA/Sentinel
competent workers on hire; many with wider supervisory skills that
add value to their placement with customers.
We are constantly looking for supervisory skills within the workforce
and will work with you to identify and promote those individuals so
that both your workforce and ours will benefit.

ATWS & LOWS
Competent in both Thermic (THERMIT/PLA) and Arc welding, we
have teams operating on the infrastructure for many UK clients. As
well as supplying welders, we offer a complete rail grinding service.
Commercially, welding and grinding have a productivity element
built in to the rate and we are routinely able to demonstrate cost
effectiveness to our customers.
We are members of the Welding Federation and fully Link Up
approved for Arc Welding, Thermic Welding, Rail Stressing and
Grinding.
All personnel come fully equipped with the small tools,
transportation, plant and consumables required to carry out the
programmed work economically and efficiently. Alternatively,
welders will be supplied on an hourly rate to work in your teams
under your complete control.
The Welding Service team is supported by a robust operational
process which ensures we maximise efficiency of service, whilst
exceeding the demands of the client and maintaining the respect
of our workforce.

electrification, signals, telecommunications & isolationThe Electrification and S&T markets are growing. Major rail project work, worth billions, is in the pipeline over the coming years and this will form a significant slice of the growth expected in the rail sector in the next decade. Skill shortages in this specialist area will be very much on the agenda and there will be tough competition for resources in the future.
This year we’ve opened up the contingent labour recruitment and supply in Electrification and S&T to our national delivery units within McGinley Support Services. That means we are servicing your needs from all of our regional locations and have numerous more staff to forecast demand, recruit and support customers. It’s our longer term strategy to meet the needs of the growing market in the future.

executive, professional & technical staffmcginley technical: professional staffingOur professional and technical team will supply you with all the
support roles you need. As a 1st or 2nd tier supplier to many of
the UK’s largest engineering companies, McGinley Technical
can recruit all levels of rail personnel on a permanent, contract
or temporary basis.
bid support: creating a staff pipelineWorking with you, we develop a resource and recruitment
programme that matches the requirements of your bid and
creates a talent pool of professionals equipped to add value to
your organisation.
From the creation of defined job descriptions, we utilise
a number of channels to identify and pre-select potential
employees on a global basis that are shortlisted against
your project requirements, many of which can be utilised during
the bid process.
This creates a talent pipeline of candidates who have been
interviewed by and agreed terms with clients. Upon award of
a suitable bid, this will provide an entire project team within a
greatly reduced time frame, combined with an increased quality of
recruitment and compliance with internal recruitment processes.
executive search: for special assignmentsOur Rail Executive Search solution has been developed to provide
clients with a totally transparent service that is bespoke to each
assignment. From the initial briefing through to successful on-
boarding, our service is designed to offer clients a high level of
inclusion and control throughout the assignment, creating a true
partnering experience.
In contrast to most Executive Search organisations who
utilise internal and external research teams, we strongly
believe that each assignment we undertake is delivered
in its entirety by the consultant you meet at the initial
briefing. This includes all competitor mapping and
research, approach calls to potential candidates, candidate
pre-selection and interview, and shortlist presentation.

business assurance
safety You have to keep the staff and operatives of your supply chain safe when they are on premises controlled by you. We have a recruitment support service dedicated to working with you to keep the workforce safe. Our independent safety team will meet with their peers in your organisation to ensure that there are integrated procedures, best practice is followed and that there is full cascading of relevant information. We investigate our own incidents and accidents and share results with you to help reduce our joint risks further. Ask us about our initiatives which seek to influence behaviours and attitudes, pushing our safety culture closer to the frontline than ever before.
trainingContinued investment in infrastructure over the coming years will require many thousands of skilled staff and operatives. Companies face skill shortages across the growth areas of infrastructure and pressure will mount for solutions to the problem. We need to deliver better trained people to you faster to help minimise your skills shortages and pass on a lower cost in our charges.
Asset.McGinley, our training division, undertakes over two-thirds of our training requirements in-house. We’re extremely proud of the fact that in our NSAR inspection during May 2014, we were rated as ‘Outstanding’ in all areas and we are now one of the top training providers nationwide. We have a skills framework to support skills development in the rail and infrastructure sector and to further add to our capability to fulfil your needs.
We also run an extensive programme of competency assessment via the division which integrates with Compliance to ensure that your hired staff and operatives work continuously within a robust competency management system. Our training division will listen to your needs, and develop programmes to take advantage of transferable skills in different infrastructure. Find out more at www.mcginley.co.uk/training
compliance & quality controlThere is risk attached to outsourcing recruitment. You deal with your own assurance issues every day within your direct workforce and you need to ensure that your supply chain matches your own standards. Tell us what you want from us and statutory, regulatory, industry, sector and customer requirements will be monitored by our compliance and quality control staff. You can have confidence that we have the necessary systems and procedures in place and can deliver within complex recruitment arrangements. We remain open for audit at any time and always welcome your due diligence as it helps us to learn and improve, as well as demonstrate our compliance and quality control. We believe that maintaining compliance and quality control as an independent unit from our operational teams has allowed us to offer high levels of assurance to our customers.
Operating this way supports a strong commitment to our corporate social responsibility as we structure our activities to have a positive impact on the environment, local communities, employees and the general public.
apprentice schemeMcGinley fully support the development of new entrants to the industry. We have a large, fully developed apprentice scheme located centrally within our business, to enable sustainable long-term employment for successful apprentices by clear post-apprenticeship succession planning. Our scheme recognises the ideals of the Richard Review of Apprenticeships.
We have designed our own specification for the development of apprentices which embraces the national standards for training and best practice in its delivery. We have developed collaborative partnerships with a number of specialist training providers to deliver the college-based elements of the apprenticeships and we complement this with mentored, meaningful work experience.
Following an announcement about major rail investment in the South Wales region, McGinley created the South Wales Apprenticeship scheme in partnership with further education college, Coleg y Cymoedd. Through this scheme, we helped to create a brand new apprentice training programme and facilities. McGinley is consistently reviewing the marketplace to ensure that we have new entrants available for the industries we work in. We will review partnerships nationally to ensure the development of local education and local workers in areas where large projects will be delivered.
