„The FixFixFix“ was founded by a couple of bike repair fanatics who also love taking pho-tos. But, as their photos received the 1 million clicks and more and more positive feedback came, the decision was made to do their thing a little more professionally.

Their aim is to promote bikes and models on photos, without taking everything too seriously. What is important for the team is that bikes are much more than just a means of transportation. They see them as fashion accessories, works of art and even desire, which, especially latter, they try to express through their photos.

THE BLACK ONE. BAMFORD WATCH DEPARTMENT

CHANGES THE LOOK OF CLASSICAL

WATCH MODELS.

HOW FAR SHOULD INDIVIDUALITY

GO?

George Bamford is son and heir of agricul-tural and building machine concern, JBL, a new parent and developer of a rather inte-resting idea; he knows that everyone who treats themselves to a luxury watch hopes that it is noticed overall and by everyone. So, Bamford had a brainwave. He developed a procedure, with which the watch is colou-red black until its original state is unrecog-nizable. Those who believe that this idea is

moronic– is wrong! Bamford has been very successful with this invention; his watches are being worn worldwi-de. Evidence for his success was at an auction at Christie’s. A Daytona Cosmograph, estimated at $20,000, was sold for $50,000.

Island of dIversIty

When you think of Ibiza, your first thought is probab-ly excess partying, but Mallorca’s little sister is defi-nitely worth a recommendation when you’re looking for a cultivated party holiday. Of course you’ll find a couple of youngsters on the plane in party mood, but amongst them you’ll also find individuals who know other qualities Ibiza has to offer.

Ibiza – the magic island.

Platja d’en Bossa is the place where you’ll find party day and night and there you meet hundreds of cheerful and exceptionally attractive people. But you’ll not only find party folk here, there are families, individual travellers and, hippies - giving the island a very special flair.

Ibiza is often described as magical and bewitching and as soon as you arrive you realise why. There are few places that offer so much diversity and attract so many different

types of people who are so relaxed with each other. Despite the partygoers, Ibiza is an oasis of tranquillity that gives back so much energy that is missed in every day life.

Beautiful bays, wide beaches (some protec-ted), undiscovered and solitary spots, hy-permarkets and shopping streets, delicious food and picturesque places -this, and more, is what Ibiza has to offer. All your wishes for a perfect holiday definitely come true on this little island.

A 1968 Ford GT40 was sold in the nineties for £ 142 000, price at present; 3 million!

Since private banks such as Swiss UBS and luxury labels a la Cartier and Louis Vuitton are committed to old-timer events, a totally different audience can now bee seen at such places. Professional paid drivers together with a complete pit crew have now replaced enthusi-asts, who used to be seen running around with screwdrivers in their hands or sometimes even

seen under cars. In formers day the haut voile met at horse race courses, today it is especially hip to keep a couple of historic racing cars with a guarantee of increase in value.

A new type of client has discovered this market and is waving with big money. Firstly, I hear

a modern investmentvintage cars as

14 | radon-bikes.com

Page 15: Radon Oversized Magazine 01/2015 EN

Who hasn’t dreamt of driving along English country roads or Boulevard La Croi-sette in Cannes in a vintage Porsche or in a convertible E-type Jag? This type of eccentricity with old-timers nowadays has become a tough investment theme.

that there is more demand from China, Russia and the Emirates; secondly, new young buyers on the market are pushing up prices for young timer automobiles. The demand for pre-war cars is declining. Similar in the watch business, where once Rolex and Panerais set the tone, there is now large demand for cars of the 80s

and 90s. Super cars such as Ferrari F40, Bugatti EB110 and Porsche 959 have suddenly become attractive investments in the New Economy. The rule is that three things determine the value of a vehicle: Quality, rarity and history. The better the condition, the scarcer the vehicle and the more prominent the racing success, the bigger

chance of increase in value. Racing legends, such as Porsche 917, Ford GT40 und Ferrari 512 have reached sums that were known only at high-end art-markets. 20 million Euros are not uncommon nowadays! The best investments are either racing cars with a great history or cars driven by celebrities.

Market experts call ‘History’ the gapless docu-mentation of registration documents, winners list and receipts; all very important for a mas-sive profit that every vehicle could make. A car

with an exceptional success story, or in original condition, could bring a fourfold of the original amount.

If you have been interested in the theme, ‘auc-tion’, over the last couple of years, then you will have heard that the most observed automobile over the last couple of years was Ferrari 250 GTO from the Italien Violati collection. Offered and sold under the hammer at a special auction from Bonhams in Pebble Beach in 2014. Seldom has there been so much media attention over an auction in advance. Even well known busi-ness magazines speculated over prices starting from over 70 million dollars up to 100 million dollars. Experts weren’t sure who was going to be spending so much money for this GTO. The car’s history also was controversial. At the end, the car was sold for $38.100,00 to a bidder from England. If you consider that the last GTO 1987 brought $1,500.00 in London. The cons-tant increase of this car in the last 30 years, the value must now be over 30 billion dollars! The automobile industry is developing stronger than the DAX, the price of gold, the art market or even real estate.

Over the last years it was possible to gain a 20% profit per year. Try to drive laps around Nürbur-gring with stocks and shares, or a gold ingot!

Should I have woken your interest in old-timers, then I would like to give you a little advice. First of all, please get informed about the market; think about what your expectations are on your future old-timer and how big your budget is. A costly historic racing car can gulp, per season, €100.00,00 on parts and maintenance. Deal with your chosen model and be advised by experts. Many offered old-timers prove them-selves to be phoney and only at the second glimpse do you see its true condition. I always advise my customers to buy only the ‘crem de la crem’. If your budget is broken then rather go down a category and buy the best there. The same implies in regards to driving fun and reliability, as well as a later resale. I have obser-ved that, not only at auctions, but also in open trade that more and more undocumented and mediocre restored cars stay on the market – unsold. Search for the undiscovered jewel. Do your homework and decide emotionally and not profit-orientated. Your old timer should be fun. If the market collapses, as in 1989, you still have a fabulous car in the garage.

Happy motoring.

We all know this since early ancient times. At that time though, was seemed as scandalous but centuries later was taken as an example by Finnish designer, Eero Aarnio, for his furniture designs.

Born on 21.3.1932, Aarnio discovered his passion for roundness, as his formative shape, after finis-hing his studies at the Institute of Arts in Helsin-

ki. One year after opening his own design bureau, Aarnio designed his, up till today, legendary ball chair. The application of new materials and the possibility to implement new forms still shapes his design-language. The usage of fibreglass and acryl inspired him to even more innovation. This has been rewarded with a magnitude of design awards. Furniture without corners or edges, manufactured from a material that has changed

the furniture industry since the 60’s, as no other material before. Exhibits from Aarnio are dis-played in worldwide renowned museums; in New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMa), Centre Pompidou in Paris and Victoria and Albert Mu-seum in London – the list is long and filled with well-known classics, one being the Bubble Chair. Although the works of the Finnish designer were ahead of the times and from the design langu-

age he set entirely new standards, you can see much of Aarnio’s furniture in many film-classics, especially science fiction genre. His pieces are still being produced – as from the beginning of the 60’s up to the 80’s- in Finnland.

Also the usage of original forms contribute to the legindary image of this design classic. www.eero-aarnio.com

Dirk Verpoorten is really happy. After being just under 6 months on the market, Verpoor-ten’s new liqueur has been awarded ‘gold’ and 4 stars in ‘Genussmagazin’ (luxury food magazine). This is an excellent start for a young product, which recipe goes back to Verpoorten’s grandmother.

Mr Verpoorten – HirschRudel is a herb liqueur with a very special story. please tell us about it.

Dirk Verpoorten: HirschRudel is a herb liqueur that was made by my grandma Elly. She loved collecting herbs in the forest. One day she discovered some deer that were grazing. She was so fascinated by the majestic view that she kept visiting this spot. Finally, she took some herbs that grew there home with her and pres-sed them in a book. This was the beginning of her love for herbs. Many years later there was a family celebration and she made some liqueur. This recipe consisted of 31 wild herbs mixed with alcohol - and it was so good that she wrote it down in her poetry album. And, although it was delicious, the recipe was somehow forgot-ten.

How did you find it?

Dirk Verpoorten: Oh, that was a real coinciden-ce. I found a poetry album in a suitcase that had been left to me by my grandmother. Reading through it, I found the carefully written recipe and tried it out immediately and was thrilled about the full flavoured taste. I decided to bring HirschRudel back to life.

The know-how to this new herb liqueur with cult factor:

HirschRudel has a dark chocolaty till mahoga-ny colour and has a thick texture. A pleasant, bold taste with a touch of vanilla, chocolate and aniseed comes to the palate, turning to a malty sweetness. The odour of coffee, dark chocolate, aniseed and caramel finishes it off.

About HirschRudel INTERVIEW - Dirk Verpoorten proudly presents his new herb liqueur, HirschRudel.

Grandma Elly’s family recipe

reaches cult status

Page 26: Radon Oversized Magazine 01/2015 EN

But, were there many obstacles to overco-me, at the beginning?

Dirk Verpoorten: Oh yes! Immediately after trying to register ‘HirschRudel’ at the patent office, I received a letter of appeal from our competitor, Jägermeister producer, Mr Mast. They, (Jägermeister) believed that everything to do with deer was only their right, and that’s why our company shouldn’t sell HirschRudel. After nearly 2 tiresome years we won our case and so were able to start the production for my herb liqueur.

Is it true that your liqueur is made by hand?

Dirk Verpoorten: Yes, that’s true. The most important ingredients are, of course, the herbs. We use only the best quality handpicked fruit and herbs that are weighed and mixed as stated in the recipe. Then the mixture of herbs, water and alcohol has to settle for at least 4 weeks. The herbal extract has then 6 months time to mature; first then can we start filling the bott-les. Due to the exclusive form of the bottle, the labelling also has to be done by hand.

And all this is produced in Germany?

Dirk Verpoorten: Yes, HirschRudel is German to the core.

Is it true that this liqueur is a limited edition of 3000 bottles?

Dirk Verpoorten lacht: Yes. A mass product made by hand isn’t possible in such large numbers. The first 3000 half litre bottles have already all been sold. The 2nd batch will also be limited to 3000. On every bottle you’ll find the barrel number and each bottle has a serial num-ber. From April you’ll be able to buy HirschRudel in small size (0,05l) for on the go!

can you name us some of your herbs?

Dirk Verpoorten: As I mentioned, HirschRudel has 31 herbs, some examples: Gentian, veronica and juniper come from the Alps. Other ingre-dients are rhubarb root, bitter orange, lovage and valerian root -these are all local herbs. Of course I’m not going to tell you all the ingre-dients in the ‘HirschRudel Express’, but little by little there’ll be some more information about herbs and their effects on Internet.

Where can I buy this new herb liqueur, and how is it being marketed?

Dirk Verpoorten: Obviously, large stores and smaller specialist dealers participate in our marketing system, but what is very important for us are delicatessen shops, wine traders as well as secialized concept stores. Another focus is gastronomy. Not only is HirschRudel available in hotels and bars, some small cafés also sell our drink.

Tell us your secret how to really enjoy HirschRudel.

Dirk Verpoorten: We have posted a couple of HirschRudel cocktail recipes over Facebook but my favourite is straight -with a bit of zest.

Mr Verpoorten, Thank you very much for this open and interesting interview. We wish you all the best and furthermore good luck for HirschRudel!

It t is summer 2014 as Thomas Jentzsch (www.andentours.de) visits us in Megastore, Bonn; he needs new bikes for his Radon bike fleet in Salento. The choice of bikes is quickly chosen:

Radon Slide Carbon 8.0 as well as Superenduro Radon Swoop 6.0. Why? Jentzsch has found numerous trails in the vicinity from which the character-terms ‘enduro’ and freeride can be defined as prime examples. After showing me the photos of his new home country one thing was clear to me – I have to go there!

December 2014: From dream to reality - I’m going to Columbia. We made a deal quite quickly, you could say a ‘win-win’ situation – straight from a picture book.

I deliver his bikes and at the same time make an on-site photo and video story. He can use them and we need them too – perfect for both of us. Jentzsch organized accommodation, shuttle ser-vice, driver and planned the tour. My knowledge of Spanish is good enough to order a beer, which means, without a guide, I am lost!

February 2014: Frankfurt Airport, 5° C tempe-rature, rain, 2 travelling bags, photo and video equipment and 2 massive boxes with bikes; total weight - 100kg luggage.

12 hours later, a handful of friendly customs officers (without one iota of English skills) I’m standing in Armenia in the baggage hall. Did the domestic machine have my camera equipment, and the bikes……Have they been safely transpor-ted? Were there customs problems? So many doubts. Suddenly a man waves me over to a pile of luggage – with my name on it. This man doesn’t speak a word of English, but with gesticu-lation and smiles he accompanies me to the door marked ‘exit’. So simple is travelling- sometimes!

The next couple of days I experience fascinating landscapes, hearty people, excellent meals and outstanding trails. Our altitude (usually higher than 2,500 metres) and a humidity of 90% plus 25° C doesn’t make my life easier. I’m carrying 10kg camera equipment on my back and at the same time riding S3 trails – not such an easy task – but I experience worldwide unique landscapes with unbelievably amazing trail-di-versity.

Time flies and what remains after nine days are 1000 impressions, many photos, hours of work on video raw material and one thing for certain; I’ve got to go there again – but for longer and I’m definitely taking my bikes with me.

All impressions here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmBeV2vNfoEtraveling information: www.andentours.de

In bike boutiques you can hear discussions about special varnishing. Frame builders in Oregon, Paris or southern Germany manufac-ture individual bikes or minimal editions that are so en vogue that the yearning customers register themselves in long waitlists, just to –finally- get hold of one of these bikes.

Velo—2nd Gear celebrates this healthy, en-vironmentally friendly, sophisticated but still crazy culture and its protagonists and heros. This contemporary bike culture is as lively as never before. The bike has replaced the car, and this book shows why.

CYCLING IS AN EXPRESSION OF DESIGN, ATTITUDE AND LIFESTYLE.

THE YOUNG GENERATION HAS SWOPPED THE CAR AS THEIR STATUS SYMBOL FOR BIKES. THIS BOOK TELLS US WHY.

Cycling is simple; who has learnt it, never forgets how to do it. Cycling is addictive – by constant use, a lifelong. But the importance of the sing-le-track vehicle is, as it’s always been, control just the same as the nuances of the contemporary two-wheel culture. Then, whether you’ve gone for a Dutch bike, a high-tech machine, a mountain bike, touring bike, an archaic fixie or a beach cruiser – a new, different world opens - the tyres begging to be pedalled.

Velo—2nd Gear has popped up in various bike scenes and showsbackground, details and context. A spectrum of especially attractive and exceptionally unusual bikes is the first of a series. Furthermore, it is documented how (not only how wheels and accessories differentiate) but also show how the bikers’ equipment and style vary. The choice of certain tricots, hats and bags signal the cultivated understanding of details and codes of the respective scene, as well as visits to special events or exotic bike temples.

Trips in traditional costumes and on historic courses in Belgium or Italy demand as much for the sportsman as well as enticing ladies and masters of the empire. Late evenings the bikers of metropolises compete against each other.

Interesting and exciting bike cafés are opening their doors for friends and lovers of those who need a short break, or a longer pause – for those who see and have to be seen. With or without a bike - it’s such a magni-ficent experience.Besides food and entertainment the cafés offer special events and – of course- fas-hion and function all around your bike.

What do you offer in your café?

We sell fresh and local food: Cake, scotch eggs and salads. Of course wehave drinks, squaremile coffee and London craft beer. We also repair bikes and show bike events live on large screens. We also sell essential bike parts – and we also have an online platform where we sell parts.

What’s the idea behind all this?

The plan was to create a place where you can watch the Tour de France, drink a couple of beers and at the same time let you bike be repaired. The owners, Lewin, Sam and Matt are passionate bikers and have coordinated this café after their needs as bikers.

How long have you been on the scene?

Our old café in the Long Street is over five years old. The one in Mare Street, two ye-ars and our café in the Southbank Centre, three years. Have a look at: www.lookmumnohands.com/locations

Why did you chose a bike café?

Why? Because the owners love biking and drinking coffee. They decided to combine both interests.

Why London?

Mainly because Lewin, Sam and Matt come from London and have lived here for over 20 years.

For the very first time the Bonner bike manufacturer Radon, the Swabian component manufacturer, MA-GURA and the Lenzerheide Bikepark are supporting a UCI Downhill Worldcup Team. Core of the teams are three bikers: Benny Strasser (Germany), Manu-el Gruber (Austria) and Nick Beer (Switzerland). All three have umpteen national titles and victories in European DH cup already written in their curricu-lum vitaes. Lars Peyer and Carina Cappellari (both Swiss) round up this Radon-MAGURA DH team – both of whom also have national championships and international top rankings.

As well as manuel Gruber (Austrian champion 2013) who rose from the Radon Factory Nati-onal DH team, we have signed up top cyclists Nick Beer (fourfold Swiss champion) and Benny Strasser (German champion 2011). We are especially happy that we were able to win Carina Cappellari, the only woman for our team. She reached 3rd position at iXSEDC Cup. Lars Peyer, as 5th biker has his focus as manager of the team and will be using his experience from his former SC-Intense team.

The three main sponsors Radon, MAGURA and Lenzerheide Bikepark all have an extremely close relationship to downhill sport.

Radon has been involved in the European DH racing scene for years as a bike manufacturer and provides the centrepiece for the team in the 2016 season; the newly developed Swoop 200 27,5. Its potential proved itself as prototype last season as Manuel managed a top ten position in Windham (USA) World cup.

MAGURA has been working with Benny Strasser for nearly two years now and additionally learns the know-how when observing the development of new products – such as the four-piston-bra-kes MT7. MAGURA would like to establish itself in the downhill sector and continue its success as with the legendary brake Gustav M.

Der Lenzerheide Bikepark is the heart of bike region Lenzerheide. Five bike runs don’t only differentiate in difficulty level but also in charac-ter. The STRAIGHTline, developed by Steve Peat, is location of the UCI MTB World Cup 2015,2016 and 2017 as well as the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships 2018.

We are really looking forward to an eventful and hopefully without injuries downhill season 2015 with good positions and a cooperation with our athletes. This bike is really, really play-ful and is loads of fun in fast as well as technical bends. The manoeuvrability is amazing! But even on fast sections where it really got to do tough work, this bike still makes a super figure. You just feel so comfortable on this bike; whether on a stony field or in techni-cally difficult root passages.

Radon Swoop just encourages you to cycle faster. I love the playfulness in the air; it doesn’t matter if a 2m or a 15m jump, you just feel so comfortable with Swoop. I have had so much fun on this bike and I can’t imagine this fee-ling will be changing in the near future’

Now it’s official! Bike manufacturer RADON–Bike is principal sponsor in cross-country, marathon and cross-EBE-racing team. The newly formed team around top ranking athlete, Elisabeth Brandau, plus many new bikers and loyal partners, will be starting together in 2015. Lisa’s start begins in spring 2016 in Rio. This is the target of all partners target and have therefore a long-term commitment with Lisa to ensure the optimal preparati-on for this massive aim - Olympic games qualifying. This trust justifies the sever-al-times German champion, not only due to her sporty performance but also to her organisation talent and self-discipline.

Elisabeth Brandau’s targets are, as well as the important German marathons, a co-meback in cross-country and qualificati-on for Rio in 2016. The team is technically supported and accompanied by professi-onal mechanic Marco Apel. ‘Wow! This is a real downhill rocket!’ These were the comments from mountain bike tester, Thomas Schmitt. You definitely can’t deny that Slide is related to its big endure brother from carbon. ‘Even when on the aluminium model only 150 mm spring at the front, the same as at the rear, the Bonn boli-de is ’ready to rumble’. Responsible for this is the extremely precise equipment. Fox-Facto-ry–spring element, complete XT-equipment, Vario posts and additionally DT Swiss-Spline

At the same time the chainstays generate the maximum grip and therefore ensuring a full biking-ex-perience. This mail order bike lets itself be snappishly steed around jagged curves and whirrs nimbly across trails. When so much fun downhill, the problems (usually) come uphill. But not in this case. Who keeps on asking why spring deflection keeps on growing, even in tour-suitable-ca-tegories, should have a ride on Radon Slide. With 160 mm hub at the front and rear, this bike rides so well uphill that the answer must be immediately clear. More spring deflection does no one any harm. Last season, Slide th-rilled us. Enough reason to have the 9.0 Slide under our bottoms! Made points in the lab with its low weight (frame 2,0 kilos plus 350g damping) and yet excellent rigidity (67Nm/degree). The boundary between all mountain

plus and enduro on trails blurs – Slide do-minates both categories. The compact seat position guaranties control and overview. Uphill the sensitive chassis inhales every little pebble. For optimal performance you can switch off the platform on the dampers and if necessary you can also lower the fork. The stern doesn’t seesaw but does show a little pedal kickback. Rise over 1500m altitude? Not a bit of a problem.

The subsequent downhill? A dream. The descent-orientated equipment inclusive chain guide, telescope post and the softer tyre at the front make it possible to start at any enduro race. Slide sticks to the surface but is playful enough that one can make it, literally, fly. The only criticism is that the rear could do with a little more progression. On the other hand what’s the use of spring deflection when it’s not used. On the test laps we calculated an excellent 152 mm on the fork, behind, ready and willing, the full piston stroke.

Radon wants to please many bikers and therefore names the four models in the Slide series, a classic all-mountain. This means that it goes downhill as well as uphill and is, on longer trips, very comfortable. Correspondingly, the selected Sram X0 2x10 gear fits and offers, at least in this test area, the best gear transmission ratio. A bottlehol-der is obligatory here and holds a 0,75 bottle on the down tube, trouble-free. The customer

benefits fully from other accessories that Radon has placed on its top model; a Fox chassis from the high quality factory series, powerful guide RS brakes and robust and voluminous Schwalbe Hans Dampf tyres. This, combined with a 130 mm spring de-flection plus 29 inch wheels guarantee for a safe and comfortable overrun of diverse obstacles.

The ‘cheapest’ hardtail has no reason to fear comparison, and even plays a prominent role in the test area. For a mere €1499 you can buy a veritable trail-speedster that doesn’t step back from an energetic start – despite its ‘only’ average weight which is due to the aluminium frame. Well equip-ped for the price and accordingly light. Its geometry with a steep 71°- steering angle inspires gasps of delight by those fans of agile, manoeuvrable handling, sharp and

direct, scraping over trails – and this bike is a mail order bike!

It never seems insecure, the moderately long chainstays ensure smooth running- and at the same time traction on steep rises. Additionally, the deep front shifts pressure onto the front wheel. ‘This bike is fun’ was the unanimous opinion of the testers. Radon is having a good run. In the €3000 area, where competitors send their mid-class bikes to be tested, the brand from Bonn rolls its top brand bike from its stock to be tested. To be exact; Radon sends it in a box, because Radon is a consignor with all the advantages and disadvantages; although, when talking about Slide the advantages outweigh. It shi-nes with the best equipment in test area and shows no weakness. Uphill the lowering of the fork, the heavy weight and the noticeable

pedal kickback help against the earth’s gravi-ty. Downhill the Fox-Factory spring elements don’t only shine due to their Kashima coating but also because of their perfect function. After a long hard winter, you should give your bike a small MOT. Here we are going to show you how you can get you bike fit for spring.

1. ATTEND TO YOUR CHAINA dry chain wears quickly, that’s why it should be left to dry for about an hour. Afterwards you drizzle a little oil onto the chain, or you spray it with grease. Every link should be lubricated individually, at the same time tur-ning the crank. Let it absorb for about 20 minutes then wipe the superflous grease away with a lint-free cloth. Lightly oil your gearshift rollers, rear dérailleur spring and front dérailleur bearings.

2. CHECK YOUR BRAKE PADSRoad salt makes problems for brake pads, that’s why you should examine them meticulously. Take off the wheel. Loosen the circlip (spring washer) and then the fixing screw. You carefully press back the pads with a tyre lever. Then release the spreader, with the pads, from the brake calliper. If the pads show 1 mm thick-ness, then you should exchange them very quickly for new ones.

3. TYRE INSPECTIONTo have the necessary grip on the track, your tyres should have enough tread. The more worn tyre should be mounted at the rear, as high grip is very important at the front. Check the pressure with a floor pump: Your 2.25“ Mountainbike tyres should be filled with 2 bar air (calculated for 70kg weight). Lighter riders de-duct 0,4 bar air.

4. LOOK AFTER YOUR PEDALSRemove any ugly rust with sandpaper (180 grain). Then drizzle a couple of drops of oil onto them.

5. CHECK YOUR SCREWSCheck all your security related screw joints on your bike with a torque wrench. You will find the tighteneing torque in your manual.

And afterwards you are ready to roll again – have fun!

Nearly outrageous, what consigner Radon puts into his Sunset bike. The frame doesn’t really fit into this price category; elaborate hydro form tubes smoothly welded at all joints, tapered head tube and steer tube for the highest possible rigidity and steering precision. Sunset really willingly goes forward when you push the (inexpensive) pedals. The high-quality fork works smoothly and precise and is due to its short shaft, nearly the lightest in test area. A sound conception is given by

the high-quality group mix in drive and brake system: The brake lever from a higher series have the most current Shimano technology for brake servo and a simple ventilation, as well as iSpec, mounting brackets for brake and gear levers…

TRENDSETTERSVISIONARIES

DOERS.That is the creed of MEGASTORES in Bonn. Two years ago the only store in Ger-many opened ist doors. Its motto always to have the newest trends and to hold everything ready for customers.

The 5000 sq.m bike centre is located directly on the M565 motorway exit Bonn-Hardt-berg.The ‘spoiled by success’ own brand- Radon Bikes - stand in the heart of the store, together with mountain bikes, racing bikes, urban bikes and pedelecs. While on the up-

per-floor hard tails, fullies and fast road bikes are presented, you’ll find trekking and eBikes with its own test course on the lower floor. Besides Radon, there is a lar-ge shop-in-shop from CUBE Bikes that completes the ‘all

around bikes’ offer. The high-light is a mezzanine, on which the best brands from 2015 are presented. Likewise As-sos and Gore Bike Wear pre-sent their top-quality clothing line in their own shop. Other brands, such as Pearl Izumi, Löffler, Maloja and CRAFT are

displayed in a separate area. The design is a modern com-bination of natural materials such as stone and wood in dark shades and earth co-lours.

Radon uses colourful accents in form of images and pano-

rama nature scenes on enor-mous screens that give you a yen for biking. The ‘feel good factor’ is for Radon of the ut-most importance. That’s why you’ll find in regular intervals rest and seating areas. All products are presented spa-ciously and well structured

so that customers can skim around but still have an over-view of everything.

To be able to have all bikes in all sizes in stock meant increasing the size of Bi-ke-Discount’s warehouse a good deal. Helmets, shoes

and backpacks are offered in a wide selection. Over 100 li-near metres of shelving carry over 20,000 articles from Bike Discounts massive ran-ge. A very own ’fashion alm’

offers exclusive lines and out-door brands.

Adittionally to a BOSS Oran-ge shop further brands: Fjällräven, 66°North, Bog-

ner, Brooks, Peuterey attract customers to browse around. There are umpteen parking spaces in the outdoor area as well as a bike test course to test the bikes of your choice.

Spire has been completely newly developed for the 2015 season. The new Spire is more versatile, without having lost its sporty cha-racter. You sit, as was, with a sporty saddle still high, but less compact than before. The steering obeys directly but not purita-nical. The smooth running is more distinct making the Spire a little more obliging and interesting for sporty tours. The lively for-ward thrust, thankfully, remains unchanged. Perfectly equipped and to a super price, the

Spire is a definite ‘Hot Buy’. But, attention! - ‘Radon’s ‘58’ is more a 56!

The frame of this radon bike consists of triple butted aluminium tubes and a full carbon fork. This combination is responsible that the R1 4.0 (together with Rose Pro SL-2000) is the lightest bike is in test results, bringing a mere 8.05 Kilogrammes on the scales. The components help lower the weight, e.g. the Syntace handlebar stem combi or the Mavic Aksium S (lightest wheels in test). All these elements together are quickly noticed on the

road. When you start or sprint from stand, R1 fights uphill. In every situation this Radon feels quite light and nippy. Specific for R1 4.0 is also the sporty geometry. Between handlebars and saddle is more elevated than in most bikes in test. The head tube is short. The seating position is comparable to that of the Focus Culebro SL 2.0. This is a bike for those who are looking for a fast, agile, manoeuvrable acceleration-happy beginners

Additionally, there is a 31.6mm saddle post that gives the biker blows from below that they wouldn’t receive on narrower models. All in all Radon is a very direct and rigid bike with which you can steer precisely round curves and gain momentum.

The Radon Service partner programme sup-plies the first worldwide concept; linking shipping and specialist retailers for the advantage of all concerned. Over the years as bike forwarder, our specialist retailers and repair and assembling shops have contacted us more and more saying that they would like to extend their activities in regard to working with Radon Bikes. At the same time, we have heard from customer side that there have often been problems with former bike retailers. When service or repair with Radon Bikes was needed.

To allow the often, significant price advantage of our bikes without any restrictions to service, we decided to bring the Radon-Service-Partner concept to life and join both groups together. Mean-while there are over 100 Radon-Service-Part-ners who are happy to be working with Radon customers. We receive new candidacies, weekly, from specialist retailers and repair shops making an even wider network possible. Should there not be a Radon-Service-Partner near you, just have a look at our website. You will find a location not far away!
