1 Mounting Requirements There is a certain existing beam angle while the antenna transmits microwave pulses. There should be no barriers between the lower edge of antenna and the surface of the measured medium. Therefore it is highly recommended to avoid facilities inside vessels, such as ladders, limit switches, heating spirals, struts etc, during the mounting process. In this case, “False echo learning” must be carried out during the installation. Furthermore, microwave beams must NOT intersect the filling streams. Pay attention during the installation: the highest level of the target medium must NOT enter into the blanking zone; the instrument must keep a certain distance to the vessel walls; every possible measure needs to be taken by positioning the instrument so that the direction of antenna emission is perpendicular to the surface of the measured medium. The installation of instruments in explosion proof area must abide the relevant local or federal safety regulations. Aluminium housing should be used for intrinsically safe explosion proof version, which is also applicable in explosion proof areas. The instrument must be connected with ground in this case. 1 Blanking Zone 2 Empty 3 Max. Adjustment 4 Min. Adjustment

Note The highest level of measured medium must not enter into the blanking zone while the radar level measurement instrument is in operation.

1.1 Mounting Position 1. Reference Plane. 2. Center of Vessel or Symmetrical Axis The minimum distance between the radar and the vessel wall during the installation, must be 200 mm (better if >500 mm). 1. Reference Plane. 2. Center of Vessel or Symmetrical Axis

The best mounting position of the radar meter in a conical vessel with flat top is in the centre of its top, as the effective measurement can reach the bottom of vessel.

1.1.1 Damp-proof In order to avoid dampness in outdoor or humid indoor conditions or for those instruments mounted on cooling/heating vessels, seal rings on cables should be screwed tight, and the cable must be bended downward outside the cable entry, indicated on the diagram below

1.1.2 Antenna Extension General: the transducer end must protrude at least for 10mm out of socket.

1.1.3 CW56 Antenna Extension If the sensor is mounted in a socket extension that is too long, strong false echoes interfering with the measurement process are generated. Make sure that the horn antenna protrudes out of the socket piece.

1.1.4 Rights and Wrongs in Mounting 1. Correct Installation 2. Wrong Installation. The instrument is mounted in the centre of a concave or arched vessel tops, generating multiple echoes.

1. Wrong Installation: mounting the instrument in or above filling stream; in this way it will measure the filling stream and not the target medium. 2. Correct Installation.

If there are barriers in the vessel it is required to mount baffle-boards. In this way, echo will be reflected out. “False Echo Memorization” will be applied.

If there are mixers in the vessels, the radar must be mounted as far away from mixers as possible. Once installation is completed, a "false echo learning" should be carried out while agitators are working to eliminate negative influence caused by their false echoes. The option for installation with standpipe must be considered if foam or wave is generated by the agitators.

1.1.5 Installation with a Standpipe By using a standpipe, the influence of foams can be reduced.

The optional installation with a standpipe (or bypass tube) must be considered in order to avoid the influence on measurement caused by barriers inside the vessels or by the foam. It is suggested to install the antenna inside the standpipe to avoid the error caused by the foam. The minimum inner diameter of the standpipe should be 50mm. Please Avoid large cracks or welding seam when

connecting the standpipe. False echo storage must be carried out in this case too.

Note: Don’t install the instrument inside a standpipe while measuring adhesive medium.

2 Electrical Connections

2.1 Power Supply - 4~20mA/HART (2-Wire) Power supply and current signal are carried by the same two-wire connection cable. See the Technical Specifications of this guide for detailed requirements on power supply. Regarding the intrinsically safe version, a safety barrier should be placed between the power supply and the meter.

- 4~20mA/HART (4-wire) Power supply and current signal are carried by two 2-wire connection cables. See the Technical Specifications of this guide for detailed requirements on power supply. Earth-connected current output can be used for standard versions of level instruments, while the explosion proof version must be operated with a floating current output. Both instruments and earth terminals should be connected with ground firmly and securely. You can either choose to connect with the earth terminal on vessel or adjacent ground in case of plastic vessels.

2.2 Cable Connection - 4~20mA/HART (2-Wire) Standard 2-wire shielded cable with external diameter of 5...9mm, to guarantee the sealing of the cable entry, can be used as feeder cable. It is suggested to use shielded cables as they can be used as feeder cables in case of electromagnetic Connection cable with special earth wire.

- 4~20mA/HART (4-Wire) the two ends of shielded cable must be connected with earth terminal. The shielded cable must be connected with inner earth terminal directly inside the transducer, while the outside earth terminal on the housing must be connected with the ground. In the event of earth-connected current, the shielded side of the cable must be connected to ground potential via a ceramic capacitor (egrounding current and avoid the disturbance caused by high frequency signals.

The example displays the features of assembly, as they have to be taken into account when programming the sensor. 1 Blanking Zone 2 Empty 3 Max. Adjustment 4 Min. Adjustment As mentioned, the height (total) of the tank is 10 m, but as you can see in the picture it is not completely possible to measure the available height. By providing a socket mounting flange with a length equal to the size of the dead zone, you can include the entire vertical extent of the layer. The final choice falls on the

sensor model CW58 can measure up to 30 m and has a dead zone of 0.3 m.

4.2.1 Basic parameters Before you start programming, you must have clear the value of certain parameters of the shell / application.

- The maximum height is 10.00 m.

- The flanged pipe for the sensor holder will not be mounted (in this example).

- Mounting height is about 0.30 m.

Taking a simple subtraction we calculate the value of the maximum distance. Empty value corresponding to 0% of filling tank. Empty Tank Height = Height

- Height of Mount

The result is 10.00 m - 0.30 m = 9.70 m. Knowing that the "dead zone" is 0.30 m, the minimum distance can be equal to the "dead zone".

4.2.2 Basic concept The basic parameters always refer to the distance of the target and the face of the transducer:

- Distance to Empty

- Full Distance

All instruments based on the time of flight, radar and ultrasonic level measurement, perform only the measurement of the distance from target.

Push again the OK button, the display will show:

Min adjustment 0% 1.1

0.00% 10.000 m (d) 9.560 m (d)

In this screen you can set the maximum distance to empty, in meters. Note that the last line that appears shows the current distance from target "hooked". This information can be very useful in programming, when you do not know the size of the tank, tub or other container.

Attention In the following sequence the parameter setting is showed step by step, in the next input mode we will consider as well known the procedure so the exposure will be a little bit fast.

Push again the OK button, the display will show:

Standard MODE Multidrop MODE

In the "Standard" type, the output is 4-20 mA (or 20-4 mA - see 5.5.2) while in a "Multidrop" this is not possible because of the connection of up to 16 units in parallel, modular by the sensor output signal in 4-20 mA. Each sensor has an address from 0 to 15, it is unique in the measurement network. The term ADRS x indicates the address of the sensor. In the menu "4.6" you can also choose the base current for each sensor, 4 or 8 mA
