We were recently contacted by Cameron Kelleher, the COO of website marketing at the Volvo Ocean Race. In London, at the Volvo Ocean Race headquarters, she and her colleagues had seen the article that put Racing Winds in the limelight. (The Capital, February 24) It was her job to contact me about a possible interview that would take place in Boston before the start of Volvo Ocean Race Leg 6 (see RaceTrack, page 4). Needless to say, she says she will contact me again soon. I am very honored, and will keep you updated on the status of that interview. Stats Stats quoted as of April 7, 2009. Hardcover: $26.69 Softcover: $14.00 Special Edition: $15.95 Price Notice: Because Racing Winds is self published, the price seems unusually high. This is because the books cost an unusually high amount to print per book. We do not print books on a 10,000 copy scale, which drives the price down. Winds on the Web We’ve redesigned our Winds website, now running in the Winds Beta2.0 operating system. This website has a clearer layout, and a boatload of new features to offer. On that note, the web address has also changed from www.racingwinds.com/newsletter ” to www.racingwinds.com/winds .” These changes will also reflect in your Winds e- mails. We have also changed our e-mail layout. You will notice, when you receive Racing Winds e-mails, that the e-mails are now graphically enhanced and have a better design than our old text e-mails. If you have any more suggestions for us, please let us know. Above photos taken for the Volvo Ocean Race by Rick Tomlinson. Photo layout by Taylor Michie. How are we doing? Does Winds annoy you? Bore you? Or, does it excite you? We want to know so that we can change our material accordingly. Let us know by e-mailing us. Submissions Welcome. greenbooksBy Taylor Michie

Since its establishment in 2008, Racing Winds has tried to streamline the printing process of books. Racing Winds is one of the ten million Lulu users pushing the printing company for greener, more sustainable options. This is the story of one book that pushes to inspire, promote, and become a better steward of the Earth.

With the click of a button, I sent the Racing Winds GreenBooks website online. I clicked over to Safari, and viewed the page in real-time. Excellent.

In short, GreenBooks is a division of Racing Winds that is committed to saving the Earth through more efficient, more sustainable publishing standards. Our packaging is 100% recycled, and our dealings are 100% Internet-based.

There’s just one catch. For years, the 10 million authors on Lulu have campaigned for

recycled paper and book covers, even if this option would have a slight cost increase.

They didn’t listen.

So, we’re still using normal paper, but we’ve moved into trying other things in order to achieve our goal.

So, we’re still campaigning for greener options, but it feels good to have done something.

Our website is one that we worked really hard on. We tried to make it professional, functional, and appealing to the eye. If you didn’t already know, all websites are configured, HTML coded, assembled, and published by Racing Winds, and we do not have any outside help from any firm or hosting website.

We invite you to first go to “www.racingwinds.com/green” and click the “About GreenBooks” in the top tabs bar.

Scroll down, and watch the corporate video. (Note: Videos are made on Macs, so they are best viewed on Safari, Opera, or Firefox.) This gives just a little snapshot of what’s going on with GreenBooks, by the numbers.

When you’re done, read the GreenBlog, or visit the GreenPower area. You’re sure to like them.

falling action... Author Sales Contest (again!)

By Taylor Michie Racing Winds is back in the

running for the newest Author Sales Contest sponsored by Lulu. The April contest rewards the top authors in five popular categories: Literature and Fiction, Arts and Photography, Education and Language, Business and Economics, and Computers and Internet. Racing Winds has entered three books in the first category, Literature

and Fiction.

The top prize is $500. Please support Racing Winds!

The contest works like this: It is strictly unit-based, meaning that even though I make more off a hardcover than a softcover, the rank is the same whether I sell 25 hardcovers or 25 softcovers. The more you buy, the closer you propel Racing Winds to an April victory!

By the way, the March sales contest results have not been released yet. We aim to have them by the next issue of Racing Winds.

comments from the other side of the book I recently asked some friends from school to write a comment about Racing Winds, to be used in the Racing Winds

Special Edition. These are some of the positive comments that we got about Racing Winds.

Racing Winds was a phenomenal book. I especially loved it because one of my good friends wrote it! Taylor is the brightest kid I know. He always plans for the bigger, better, more modern, and always more interesting. That’s exactly what he did when writing this book. Living in Annapolis does help me relate more to his novel. I love how Taylor incorporated local things from Annapolis into his book. I couldn’t be more proud of Taylor! Congrats!! -Katie H.

Unlike most books that just give me something to do, Racing Winds entertained me and opened my eyes to the greatness of the Volvo Ocean Race. I hope that there is a sequel that is just as good; Taylor, that will be…[a] challenge. -Dean R.

Racing Winds is a novel that everyone can enjoy. The suspense, details in the story, and action-packed plot made it worth it for everyone to read. -Mackenzie K.

Racing Winds, by Taylor Michie, blew me away! His attention to detail, suspense, character, and plot development made this a book I couldn’t put down! -T. Kilroy

Having known the author for several years, it was a pleasure to read his book, Racing Winds. The intricate knowledge given about the Volvo Ocean Race and the suspense of the story made it a “can’t put down” kind of book. Cover to cover, it held my interest. -S. Gateau

The “Racing Winds” Special Edition comes out today, April 10th, at 5:00 pm. You can read these comments and a special author’s note for only $14.59, a savings of almost 10%. The price will be standardized at $15.95 on Saturday, April 11th, so don’t wait!
