. patriots. Among the women who struggledto keep up the honour of mother Bharat andshackle the iron frets to free her from thealien hands, Jhansi Laxmibai has a uniqueplace.

She wasborn on 19th November,1835. Her name was Manikarnika. Her petnames were Manubai and Chame1i. She wasmarried to Gangadhar Rao of Jhansi in theyear 1842 and became Jhansi Ki RaniLaxmibai. She was blessed with a son in1851 but losthim when he was hardly threemonths babe. Gandhara Rao' s sudden death,the Rajya samkramana Siddhanta ofDalhousi to annex her principality to British,made her life a utopian dream. As there wasno other alternative she had to personallyparticipate in the 1857 revolution that wasalso known as first war of Independence.
