How did you attract/address your

audience?

Costumes The audience for my magazine is teenagers. There are many ways in which I attracted and addressed my audience in my magazine. One of these ways was fashion. Fashion is a huge part of teenagers lives. They’re always looking for the latest trends and using celebrities as style icons. That’s why deciding what outfits to use for my characters was very important, as my audience would use them as inspiration.

Dressing Tom in a brand such as Fred Perry is a great way to attract young males as Fred Perry is seen as a cool, statement brand.

Even things such as hairstyles is a great way to attract/address the audience. Toms hair is a popular style amongst young males, therefore they may see him as cool and this may encourage them to find out more about Tom in the magazine.

Casual scarf's are a great way to address the female readers of my magazine. It helps to show that a celebrity dresses the same way as them which can make them feel a connection.

A short basic black dress can attract both male and female readers. Females may feel inspired by how rebellious and cool she looks. Whilst males may see her as their ‘celebrity crush’.

Bold colours/text Bold text is a great way to address the audience for my magazine. Teenagers in this generation are seen as very individual and expressive. Using large font can really express this as it is a bold statement and can help represent the ‘boldness’ of teenagers in this generation. Along with this bright colours help to make a statement, as teenagers are very opinionated in this generation, it can help represent their individuality.

Large fonts and bright colours can be really useful when attracting the audience. As teenagers love experimenting with fashion and colours, using bright colours such as yellow and red is a good way to catch their attention. It stands out from other magazines and will make them intrigued to look inside. As soon as they see the word ‘MUSIC’ in bold black text, they will instantly be attracted towards my magazine as teenagers are constantly looking for new music and style.

Use of language The language used is such an important factor when trying to address/attract the right audience. As my audience are teenagers its very important that I use language they're familiar with. I chose to use informal language like slang as teenagers of this generation can really relate to this. Also when Tom is using slang in the interview, it creates a connection with the reader. If I was to chose to use very formal, intellectual language it would attract the wrong audience. Teenagers would be bored and not drawn in if my magazine read like a dictionary with long complex words in. by using slang it will make readers feel relaxed when reading it and make it more enjoyable for them to read.Choosing which topics to discuss in my interview was just as important. Talking about things like relationships really attracts the teenage reader as they want to find out all the latest gossip. Also relationships are a big thing for teenagers and they are constantly changing. By hearing about their role models relationships they can relate to him.
