Susan is determined to relive the fun of her younger years by retracing her past backpacking through Australia. With a cocktail in hand and an eye on
the barman, she sips, slurps and tumbles her way through a hilarious journey of rediscovery. This
heartwarming and achingly funny show will have you reaching for your boarding pass and living out
Susan’s philosophy: “Don’t sip it, drink it!”.
Written by West End and Broadway playwright Peter Quilter (End of the Rainbow, Duets) and
starring Mandi Lodge (Menopause The Musical® IN CONCERT, Dumped!, Busting Out!), don't miss this
play's first performance outside Sydney.

4SEASON 2015
SOUND MANAGEMENT AUSTRALIA PRESENTS
The Fabulous Singlettes
The Fabulous Singlettes are a playful, post-modern musical celebration of some of the greatest hits of
the '60s and '70s. Naomi Eyers, Melissa Langton and Diane Dixon sing up a storm, with dance moves to die
for, frocks galore and beehives that are a triumph of hairspray over gravity.
But it’s the impeccable harmonies and sly, camp humour that have made this mega-girl group a hit all
over the world. The Fabulous Singlettes celebrate the '60s with immaculate covers of the Girl Group era
(think The Ronettes, The Supremes, The Shangri-Las, Dusty Springfield and many more) combined with
outrageous humour that sends up the fashions and attitudes of the decade that changed the world.
“A gloriously tongue-in-cheek tribute to the legendary girl groups.”
BBC TV
“An exuberant and beautifully harmonic celebration of retro.”
The Advertiser, Adelaide
Big frocks, big voices, and even bigger hair!

“It’s Anzac Day this week, that’s my day, that’s the
old Diggers’ day.” Performance Dates
Tuesday 28 April, 7.30 Wednesday 29 April, 11.00am Wednesday 29 April, 7.30pm
What is the meaning of Anzac Day? For war veterans like Alf Cook and his friend Wacka Dawson, it’s the
chance to commemorate history, celebrate heroism and conjure national pride. For Alf’s son Hughie,
Anzac Day flies the flag for a very different reality, one that brings the dignity of our Diggers to its knees and
into the gutter – via one too many down the pub.
A play that incites as much passion now as ever, The One Day of the Year looks at our national legend
through the eyes of generation, class and character. On the 100-year anniversary of the Gallipoli landing, this is a
thoroughly fresh take on this truly Australian classic.
“Seymour’s writing, with its innate humanity and gritty sincerity, is still vigorous. One Day of the Year survives
the decades with triumph.” The Sun Herald
“…a compelling piece of theatre and one which no young Australian should miss.”

CHRISTINE HARRIS & HIT PRODUCTIONS PRESENT
The country town of Coriole is gearing up for its biggest Australia Day party yet – a time to crack open
a frothy, stick a snag on the barbie and celebrate what it means to be a true blue Aussie.
But the local Australia Day committee has a few issues to sort out first. It’s proving hard yakka to
work out what an Aussie celebration should look like! Nothing is sacred as the national identity is put
through the wringer in this thoroughly modern ripper of a comedy!
Australia Day returns in a brand new touring production for 2015, directed by its acclaimed
writer Jonathan Biggins (The Wharf Revue).
“Extremely relevant…honest and clever, Australia Day pokes fun at cultural traditions while asking whether
the consequences of change are any better.” Curtain Call
“If you want social satire and huge laughs at the expense of, well, just about everyone in our sun-
drenched country…Australia Day is just the ticket.” Herald Sun

Their lives could have been written so differently: the
story of Henry Lawson and Mary Gilmore’s lost love.
Performance DatesMonday 14 September, 7.30pm

Still revered across Australia, Henry Lawson is one of the nation’s favourite writers and poets. His
contemporary, Mary Gilmore, was a literary icon and radical socialist. Both were heroes of literature that
had enormous influence over each other.
At the end of the 19th century, Mary Gilmore was introduced to the young Henry Lawson. As their
friendship developed, Mary found herself caught in the midst of an intense relationship between Henry
and his formidable mother. What followed was the beginning of a love affair, soon thwarted by a
devastating deception.
Historically significant and beautifully touching, All My Love reveals the little-known but heartbreaking love
story of two Australian literary icons.

22GARDENS POINT PRECINCT
GARDENS POINT PRECINCTThere’s plenty to see and do at Gardens Point Precinct, so plan your visit to include some of the other activities on offer, all for free.
Explore The Cube (pictured), the world’s largest multi-media touchscreen learning display; Old Government House, Queensland’s most significant historical building and home to the William Robinson Gallery; or the QUT Art Museum, a favourite destination for contemporary art devotees.
The new precinct also includes a variety of pre-show dining options, whether you’re after a light bite, casual meal or a post-show tipple.
STARS OF TOMORROWAs a Gardens Theatre subscriber you will be invited to see all five of the QUT acting students showcase productions. Our season is planned to offer the students the best opportunities to learn from highly experienced directors, but they have to be good enough to entertain you. For some reason 2015 turns out to be the laughing year. The first production, The Man Who Came to Dinner by Kaufman and Hart, offers the actors a strong narrative and the opportunity to create characters who are hilariously flawed but lovable human beings. Jennifer Flowers is the director. It has a big cast, it’s fast and funny and they will need to step up for this American classic.
The second play The Coast of Utopia (Voyage) by Tom Stoppard is an English comedy with Russian overtones and again, is fast and funny. Director is David Bell. Finally, with much appreciated support from the Rainbow Reid Foundation, we are thrilled to have the very popular Mel Shapiro back from the USA to direct The Government Inspector by Nikolai Gogol. This will be a monster comedy/farce spectacular. So, if the students do their job, you will be laughing out loud all year. The second years will do their usual Chekhov and Shakespeare productions: more about that later.
Dianne Eden Head, Acting Studio
23 QUT SHOWCASE
Please come to these productions. There’s something for everyone and, at heart, it’s all about actor training. The students and I adore it when you engage with us and I love your emails. Watch the actors grow, be critical about their work, praise them for meeting a challenge well
(if they do!), meet them in the foyer at opening nights and let them practise their social skills with you. Worry about them a little and of course, learn to have your favourites. Our heartfelt thanks and respect to you, our audience.

Performances10 – 15 August
A case of mistaken identity sets off a comedy of errors in this wildly funny story of corruption,
greed and stupidity.
The corrupt officials of a small Russian town are awaiting the arrival of an undercover inspector,
sent to investigate their misdeeds. When an illiterate stooge wanders into the strange town
and is picked up on a vagrancy charge, the town's officials mistake him for the inspector.
Nikolai Gogol's satire on human corruption and the folly of self-deception caps off three years of
training for QUT's emerging actors.
