Steps to the AltarThe finished block measures 6inches square (61/2inches unfinished).Instructions:From a navy print, cut three 27/8inch squares. Cut these squares diagonally to form triangles.

From a navy print, cut six 11/2inch squares.

From a white-on-white, cut two 27/8inch squares. Cut these squares diagonally to form triangles.

From a medium blue print, cut one 27/8inch square. Cut this square diagonally to form triangles.

From the medium blue print, cut six 11/2inch squares.

Sew navy triangles to the blue and white-on-white triangles.

Sew blue squares to navy squares and then sew the three four-patch units, as shown in graphic to the left.

Using the graphic for placement reference, sew the nine units together to form the block.

Your completed block will measure 61/2inches (unfinished).It will measure 6inches after sewn into a quilt.

NOTE: Remember toalwaysuse good quality, 100% cotton fabrics and to pre-wash your fabrics. Please sign the blocks on the back in the seam allowance with both your name and e-mail address, using only a good waterproof pigma pen. White-on-white means awhitedesign printed onwhitefabric.

Shoo Fly Quilt BlockThe finished block measures 9inches square (91/2inches unfinished).Instructions:From an ecru-on-ecru, cut two 37/8inch squares. Cut these squares diagonally to form triangles.

From an ecru-on-ecru, cut four 31/2inch squares.

From a heart print, cut two 37/8inch squares. Cut these squares diagonally to form triangles.

From the heart print, cut one 31/2inch square.

Sew heart print triangles to the ecru-on-ecru triangles.

Sew the heart print square to the ecru-on-ecru squares.

Sew an ecru-on-ecru square between your triangle units, as shown in graphic to the left.

Using the graphic for placement reference, sew the units together to form the block.

Your completed unfinished block will measure 91/2inches.It will be 9inchesafterit is sewn into a quilt.Be sure to leave the1/4inch seam allowance on the block.NOTE: Remember toalwaysuse good quality, 100% cotton fabrics and to pre-wash your fabrics. Four Patch Quilt BlockThe finished block measures 8 square (81/2 unfinished)We made an 8-inch block using homespun type stripes and plaids. The block is a 4-patch with half-square triangle block units. The squares were dark/medium in the center with the same light fabric on the corners OR light/medium in the center with the same dark on the corners. Use two different fabrics for the center triangles.Instructions:Cut 2 light blocks, 1 dark block (A),
and 1 dark block (B) 47/8 each.

With dark A and a light block together, right sides facing, draw a line diagonally from corner to corner. Sew 2 seams, each1/4 from the diagonal line on either side of it. Then cut along the line. Press the two blocks open.

With dark B and a light block together, right sides facing, draw a line diagonally from corner to corner. Sew 2 seams, each1/4 from the diagonal line on either side of it. Then cut along the line. Press the two blocks open.

Sew the blocks together so that the light triangles are on the four outer corners and the dark A triangles are opposite each other.

Your finished (unfinished) block should measure 81/2inches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the eightinch finished size -- as the finished measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.

Split Nine Patch Quilt BlockThe finished block measures 9 inches square (91/2inches unfinished).

Instructions:There are three dark blocks, three light blocks and three half and half blocks, using 12 different fabrics.

Cut three (3) dark squares and three (3) light squares, 31/2inches each.

Cut three (3) dark squares and three (3) light squares 37/8inches each, then cut them diagonally. Sew the light triangles to the dark triangles and press the seams toward the dark fabric.

Top row -- dark square, dark square, triangle unit (with the dark half on the left).

Middle row -- dark square, triangle unit (with the dark on the left), light square.

Bottom row -- triangle unit (with the dark on the left), light square, light square.

Your completed unfinished block will measure 91/2inches.It will measure 9 inchesafterit is sewn into a quilt.NOTE: Remember toalwaysuse good quality, 100% cotton fabrics and to pre-wash your fabrics.

Angles and Squares Quilt BlockThe finished block measures 6 inches square.
(61/2inches unfinished).Instructions:There are two methods shown below -- the first uses triangles.

Cut one (1) 67/8inch dark square, then cut it on the diagonal.

Cut one (1) 31/2inch dark square.

Cut one (1) 37/8inch light square, then cut it on the diagonal.

Sew the light triangles to the square, as shown to the left.

Press toward the darker fabric.

Sew the triangle unit you created in step 4 to the triangle cut in step 1.

Press toward the dark triangle.

The completed (unfinished size) block will measure 61/2inches square.

The second method uses a technique in which you dont cut any triangles!

Cut one (1) 61/2inch by 8 inch rectangle.

Cut two (2) 31/2inch squares of dark fabric.

Cut two (2) 31/2inch x 5 inch squares of light fabric.

Sew together as shown to the right.

Sew the two units together as shown.

Turn the block over and clip the seam allowance between the dark squares. Press the seams as shown.

Make a template by cutting a 6 1/2inch square, then cutting it on the diagonal. Place the template on the wrong side of the block and mark a diagonal line with a pencil. Switch to the opposite side and do the same.

Lay the pieced block, right sides together, on top of the 61/2inch by 8 inch rectangle. Stitch on the drawn lines.

Cut the block in half, diagonally, between the stitched lines.
You will have two blocks. Open the blocks and press seams toward the large triangle.

Your finished (unfinished) block should measure 61/2inches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the six inch finished size -- as the finished measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.

Jacobs Ladder Quilt BlockThe finished block measures 12 inches square (121/2inches unfinished).

Cut two 47/8inch squares from white-on-white.

Cut two 47/8inch squares from a thirties print.

Cut these on the diagonal and sew the print to the white-on-white, OR, draw a line on the diagonal of one of them and sew1/4inch from the line on each side of the line, then cut along the drawn line. Either method will produce four blocks that will be 41/2inches square.

Press the seam toward the print.

Cut ten 21/2inch white-on-white squares

Cut ten 21/2inch squares from a different thirties print than the one used for the triangles.

Make a pile of each color and sew each WOW to a print to make ten rectangles.

Press the seam toward the print.

Sew the rectangles together as shown in the graphic, which will produce five 4-patch squares.

Sew a 4-patch unit to each side of two of your half square triangle units. Press the seams out (toward the 4-patch squares).

Sew a half square triangle unit to each side of the remaining 4-patch unit. Press the seams in (toward the 4-patch square).

Match your seams and sew the units into the finished block, as shown.

Your finished (unfinished) block should measure 121/2inches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the twelve inch finished size -- as the finished measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.

Log Cabin with an Appliqued Star Quilt BlockThe finished block measures 81/2inches square (9inches unfinished).

Cut muslin 3 inches square.

Cut log strips 11/2inches wide.

Sew a red print strip to the left side of the muslin square.

Press the seam toward the red. Trim strip even with the square.

Sew a different red print to the top of the square, press and trim as in step 4.

Continue stitching in this manner, using two blue prints for the next adjacent sides, repeating red print strips on the red sides and blue print strips on the blue sides until there are three strips on each side of the muslin square.

Applique an appropriate size star, using gold/yellow fabric, in the center of the muslin. You may use any method of applique you wish.An alternate method might be to begin with a 21/2inch paper pieced star, then add the logs.Your finished (unfinished) block should measure nineinches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the 81/2inch finished size -- as the finished measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.

Churn DashThe finished block measures 71/2inches square (8inches unfinished).

Cut two tan 33/8inch squares.

Cut these in half diagonally.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 with your colored fabric.

An alternative way to create the corner blocks would be to place the tan 33/8inch squares over the colored 33/8inch squares and draw a diagonal line. Sew1/4of an inch on each side of the line, then cut them apart along the line you drew and press them open.

Cut a 3 inch square from the tan fabric.

Cut four 13/4by 3 inch rectangles from the tan fabric.

Cut four 13/4by 3 inch rectangles from the colored fabric.

Assemble the squares from your triangles and rectangles.

Assemble the block as pictured.Your finished (unfinished) block should measure eightinches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the 71/2inch finished size -- as the finished measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.

Cross Roads to Jericho Quilt BlockThe finished block measures 9inches square (91/2inches unfinished).

Cut four dark 25/8inch squares.

Cut five cream (or cream-on-cream 25/8inch squares.

Cut two 53/8inch squares from another dark fabric.

Cut these squares diagonally to form four triangles.

Assemble the 25/8inch squares as a nine-patch.

Sew the triangles to the edges, as shown.

Your finished (unfinished) block should measure 91/2inches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the nine inch finished size -- as the finished measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.

Ohio Star Quilt BlockThe finished block measures 9inches square (91/2inches unfinished).

Cut four light 31/2inch squares.

Cut one dark 31/2inch square.

Cut two 41/4inch squares from the light fabric.

Cut two 41/4inch squares from the dark fabric.

Cut these squares diagonally to form four triangles.

Assemble the triangles by sewing each dark to a light, then sew these units together to form a square.

Sew your squares together to form the block.

Your finished (unfinished) block should measure 91/2inches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the nine inch finished size -- as the finished measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.

Ribbon Star Quilt BlockThe finished block measures 9inches square (91/2inches unfinished).

Cut one 31/2inch center square from a jewel tone fabric.

Cut four 37/8inch squares from a white or very light fabric.

Cut four 37/8inch squares from jewel tone fabric.

Cut these squares in half on the diagonal to make eight light-colored triangles and eight jewel tone triangles.

Assemble the triangles by sewing each dark to a light to form squares.

Sew your squares together to form the block.Your finished (unfinished) block should measure 91/2inches. Be sure to leave the seam allowance on the block, DO NOT cut it to the nine inch finished size -- as the finished measurement represents the block size after it is sewn into a quilt top.

Lady of the Lake Quilt BlockThe finished block measures 9inches square (91/2inches unfinished).Instructions: Use rich reds, with a beige or taupe background.Use good quality, 100% cotton fabrics and prewash your fabrics.

From a rich blue red and a beige/taupe, cut a 75/8inch square diagonally to form a triangle.

Cut one 23/4inch square from the beige/taupe fabric.

Cut three 31/8inch squares from a rich blue red and a beige/taupe.

Cut the 31/8inch squares diagonally to form triangles.

Make 6 squares by sewing a light triangle to a red triangle along their long edges.

Join these squares in groups of three.

Add the light square, as shown, to one of the strips.

Add joined squares to the 71/4inch square, making sure that they are placed as shown.Your completed block will measure 91/2inches. Nine inchesaftersewn into a quilt.
