Quick Guide to... Keeping your Membership Moving Continuing Professional Development All Technical Members, Associate Members, Members and Fellows must keep records of continuing professional development (CPD). In order to upgrade to Technical Membership, one year’s record of CPD must be produced; for the other grades a two-year record is required. Full details of the CICES CPD policy and guidelines can be found online or in the Guide to Continuing Professional Development. Upgrading your Membership CICES membership grades have been designed so that it is possible to continue to upgrade as further qualifications and experience are gained. Full details about the entry requirements for every grade can be found in the Guide to Membership. A full set of competencies describes the skills required for membership. Members wishing to become a Fellow must match an additional set of attributes that pick them out from other members. These are available from the membership department or at www.cices.org/competencies Paying your Annual Subscription UK members are expected to pay their annual subscription by direct debit. This is an easy way to pay and helps us to keep costs (and the rate of your subscription) down. Members who do not have a UK bank account are invoiced each February for the coming year’s subscription. These payments can be made online through the CICES website, by bank draft or by a cheque payable in Euros. These arrangements may be reviewed as necessary. Updating your Contact Details We appreciate that your time is at a premium, but it is essential to keep your personal details up-todate. If you are moving home or going to work in a different country, simply contact the membership department and we will adjust our records accordingly. Alternatively, complete and return the contact update form that is posted with Civil Engineering Surveyor. Updating your employer details helps us to research where our members are working and to keep employers informed of the benefits of professional membership. Voting All Members and Fellows are eligible to vote in a number of circumstances: Members and Fellows of regional and core committees may cast a vote to make a critical decision. Members and Fellows of the institution’s Council of Management are chosen by election. Major issues affecting the institution’s future may be decided by a referendum vote. Code of Conduct The institution supports and is bound by all UK equal opportunities legislation in age, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation and race. The institution supports anti-bullying initiatives. CICES members at every grade are bound by a code of professional ethics and all should be fully aware of the details of the code. A copy of the code can be downloaded from the website or is available on request.
