Reduction in the Time to Replace a Player With 5 Fouls

• Twenty seconds will be allowed to replace a disqualified player. The warning signal will be sounded five seconds before the expiration the time limit.

• Warning horn at 15 seconds; resumption of play 5 seconds later

• Rule 2-12.8, 4-17.5 (pages 51, 72).

No Full Reset on a Kicked Ball

• Violations when the ball has been intentionally kicked will no longer result in the reset of the shot clock to 30 seconds.

   Front court:• If a dribbler is not going to the basket (“east-

west”), a defender, in order to “find” the dribbler, may briefly place a hand on him/her, but the hand must not remain on any part the dribbler.

• A HAND THAT REMAINS ON OR INFLUENCES THE DIRECTION OF A DRIBBLER ANYWHERE ON THE COURT IS ILLEGAL.

• It is also to be noted that ‘bumping’ or dislodging of dribblers and offensive players without the ball who are moving to new positions on the floor will be penalized.

• During a live ball, if a coach is out of the box and not addressing the officials he/she must be politely but firmly reminded to return to the box.

• During a dead ball the same procedure must be adhered to although by rule the coach may check the scoresheet and request reasonable information at this time.

Bench Decorum

• With two exceptions, no one other than the head coach may stand during the game

• Exception one; bench personnel are permitted to stand as a momentary response to a good play by their team

• Exception two; players may stand during timeouts and to report to the scorer’s table as a substitute

Palming

• “Palming”or “carrying” the ball places the defender at a distinct disadvantage while according the offensive player a sizeable advantage inconsistent with the rules.

Palming

• The dribbler, during a high or hesitation dribble, causes the ball to come to rest and then pushes the ball either to the side or in front of him commits an indefensible violation which must be called.

Palming

• “Palming” is an illegal manoeuvre. When the ball comes to rest in the dribbler’s hand, by rule, the dribble has ended. Continuing to dribble after the ball has come to rest in the hand is a violation and should be called.

• All competition shall be governed by the rules of the NCAA Men's Basketball Rules, with the following modifications:

• The NCAA's definition of "closely guarded" will not be used. The definition of "closely guarded" shall be the FIBA definition, with the exception that it only applies in the frontcourt.

• A player who is holding the ball in the frontcourt shall be considered to be closely guarded if the defensive player is aggressively attempting to either obtain the ball or to prevent the player holding the ball from passing or shooting the ball.

• A player holding the ball while closely guarded for 5 seconds commits a violation. The ball shall be awarded out of bounds for a throw-in to the team on defense.

ASAA Rule Modifications 2005-06

• The 3-point area is in effect using the FIBA Line (6.25m, 20'6").

• With the exception of shot clock violations, there will be “no handle” on violations committed by the offensive team in their frontcourt.
